Cursillo Regional Encounter Hankinson, ND - April 25-27, 2014 Mark your calendars for a Cursillo Regional Encounter right here in North Dakota. This is a rare opportunity more information will follow! SCHOOL OF LEADERS EXPANDS The School of Leaders will be adding a satellite to the main School in. In November SCOL will be held monthly on a Wednesday night in and monthly on a Saturday morning in. Dates for upcoming meetings are listed on the next page. The purpose of the SCOL is to develop Cursillistas into Leaders within the Cursillo Movement. The meetings last two hours and include presentations on Church Doctrine and Cursillo Techniques. SCOL meetings include Group Reunion & meetings of the Pre Cursillo, Cursillo, Post Cursillo and SCOL s sections. It is never too late to register for the SCOL. Registration Forms are available online and attached to this newsletter. Interested in starting a SCOL in your area? All is takes if four dedicated Cursillistas dedicated to evangelization. One person will represent each section of the SCOL. Presentations of the Doctrinal and Technique talks are available. Call Ben Seitz at (701) for more information Cursillo Applications Now Available Applications are now available for the 2014 Cursillo weekends! In 2014 there will be a first with women s and men s weekends at both Maryvale and Hankinson. The Maryvale weekends will be in January and the Hankinson weekends will be in March. Weekend dates for Belcourt have also been published. Make a friend, be a friend, and bring a friend to Christ the motto for our Cursillo Movement. Now is the time to begin prayerfully approaching those who you believe God is calling to attend a Cursillo. Sponsorship is a key element of the Pre-Cursillo and it comes with a great deal of responsibility on the 4th Day. All are now called to begin (or continue) to offer Palanca for teams and candidates. The prayers and sacrifices offered by all Cursillistas lights the fire of the Holy Spirit on the teams during preparation and on the candidates during the weekend. Page 2

3 News Shorts MIXED SATURDAY STUDY GROUP IN FARGO A new mixed (men and women s) group will begin meeting every other Saturday at 7:00 AM beginning on November 30 at Sts Anne & Joachim Parish in. This study group will also include a small group sharing at every meeting. The Group will begin reading the Whom Shall I Send at the first meeting. Cursillo Prayer Chain The Cursillo website at has added a Cursillo Prayer Chain link! There are two ways to participate in the prayer chain: Sign up to be a member of the prayer chain by simply typing in your name and address. Then whenever anyone enters a prayer request you will receive an with the prayer intention. Enter a prayer request simply click on the prayer request link which will open an . Fill in your prayer request and it will be forwarded to all members of the prayer chain. SCHOOL OF LEADERS SCHEDULE The Diocese Cursillo School of Leaders (SCOL) will provide two opportunities for members to attend monthly SCOL meetings in Meeting will be held on the third Wednesday of every month in and on the preceding Saturday in. SCOL will meet at Sts Anne and Joachim Church on Saturday mornings at 9:30 AM in the St Michael Room in the Basement. SCOL will meet at St Catherine s Church at 6:30 PM on Wednesday nights. It was determined that the 3 first topics should be covered again as materials received during the Cursillo de Cursillo provide a clearer understanding of the topics and that it would benefit all members. 4 Pope Francis speaks to Cursillistas! As Pope Francis is a strong supporter of Cursillo! Even while Archbishop of Buenos Aries, Jorge Bergoglio taught this way. The following points come from a letter he wrote to Cursillistas in his Archdiocese in 2011: As a Church, all of us need unity in Christ so that only He reigns in our hearts. Now more than ever, we need your presence in your various environments to be light and joy for so many brothers and sisters who ignore God as a Father who loves them with great tenderness. The gift of Kerygma (the apostolic proclamation of religious truths) received during your Cursillo missionary, just like the tripod points out (piety, study, and action). As a Church all of us need unity in Christ, so that HE, only HE reigns in our hearts and only then we will be able to recognize HIM as the disciples did in Emmaus. As I thank you for you pilgrimage as Cursillistas, I ask you to never cease to renew in Jesus Eucharist your apostolic fervor and that of your brothers and sisters in your group reunions. Today, more than ever we need your presence so that many families can find the transcendent love of Christ a newer and larger dimension of human love. We need your presence and your witness in the Ultreyas, to keep moving forward in the proclamation and living out the Kerygma. I ask you to pray for me. May God and the Virgin Mother of the Divine Grace be with you and take care of you. From: Cursillo National Newsletter in August 2013 The Importance of Being a Sponsor Cursillistas we are called to make a friend, be a friend, and bring a friend to Christ. Note it does not say bring a friend to Cursillo. Our mission is to Christianize our environments and build a backbone of Christianity in the world one person at a time. When the time is right someone you know may be ready to attend a Cursillo weekend and you may be in a position to sponsor them. It is important for you to understand, therefore, the responsibility that you have as a sponsor. Most important to note is that your responsibility does not end when you drop the candidate off for the weekend. With both Men s and Women s weekends coming up in 2014 sponsoring would seem to be a timely subject. The Leaders Manual outlines the responsibilities of the sponsor on page 95 as follows: The Sponsor must: Know, at least in a general way, the mentality and purpose of the Cursillo Movement. Have read and agreed with the information contained in The Cursillo Movements Sponsor s Booklet. Know the candidate as much as possible, and pray for direction from the Holy Spirit: Speak to God about the candidate before speaking to the candidate about God. Give an authentic witness of one s Christian life, that is, to live the message being proclaimed. Provide candidates with as much information as possible. Provide each candidate a copy of the booklet The Cursillo Movement What is it? Spark the desire for God and make it grow and promote the attitude of conversion Take responsibility for the perseverance of the candidate until he/ she is fully incorporated into his/her own Christian community. See that the Secretariat has all the relevant facts about the personalities and dispositions of the candidates for the Cursillo. Bottom line is the sponsor s responsibility extends well past the weekend into the Post Cursillo. Ensure the candidate is grouping if possible the sponsor should group with new candidates. Additionally, the sponsor should ensure that new 4th Day members are invited to Ultreyas; providing rides if necessary. The goal of Cursillo is to build a Christian backbone or vertebrae in all environments of the world. We do that one soul at a time: Make a friend, be a friend, bring a friend to Christ.

The Cursillo is a method of giving those, who have a potential for influencing others, a personal encounter with Christ.
