Lesson Text: Romans 2:1-12 King James Version(KJV) Sunday, August 5, 2018 I. GOD S JUDGMENT UPON MANKIND (Romans 2:1-3) 1. Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things. 2. But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things. 3. And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God? II. GOD S GOODNESS TO MANKIND (Romans 2:4) 4. Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?
III. GOD S WRATH UPON MANKIND (Romans 2:5-8) 5. But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God; 6. Who will render to every man according to his deeds: 7. To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life: 8. But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath, IV. GOD S IMPARTIALITY TOWARDS MANKIND (Romans 2:9-12) 9. Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile; 10. But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile: 11. For there is no respect of persons with God. 12. For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law;
New International Version (NIV) I. GOD S JUDGMENT UPON MANKIND (Romans 2:1-3) 1. You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge another, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things. 2. Now we know that God s judgment against those who do such things is based on truth. 3. So when you, a mere human being, pass judgment on them and yet do the same things, do you think you will escape God s judgment? II. GOD S GOODNESS TO MANKIND (Romans 2:4) 4. Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, forbearance and patience, not realizing that God s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance? III. GOD S WRATH UPON MANKIND (Romans 2:5-8)
5. But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God s wrath, when his righteous judgment will be revealed. 6. God will repay each person according to what they have done. 7. To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give eternal life. 8. But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there will be wrath and anger. IV. GOD S IMPARTIALITY TOWARDS MANKIND (Romans 2:9-12) 9. There will be trouble and distress for every human being who does evil: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile; 10. but glory, honor and peace for everyone who does good: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. 11. For God does not show favoritism. 12. All who sin apart from the law will also perish apart from the law, and all who sin under the law will be judged by the law.
PRACTICAL POINTS FOR DISCUSSION: 1. Since we are all guilty of sin, we cannot judge others (Romans 2:1-2). 2. We are all guilty of sinning and the only way to escape God s judgment is to repent (Romans 2:3-5). 3. God will judge everyone based on what they ve done, right or wrong (Romans 2:6-10). 4. Our God is just and righteous and plays no favorites; He will judge everyone fairly (Romans 2:11-12). ***The Bible Expositor and Illuminator, Union Gospel Press***
