The great mystery of Christ is contemplated throughout a whole year, considering it from the very beginning up to his coming at the end of the times. There are two main feasts in the Liturgical Year: Easter, the celebration of our Redemption through the death and resurrection of Christ, which is culminated in Pentecost; and Christmas, the celebration of the Incarnation of the Word of God. Before both solemnities there are special times to get ready to celebrate them. Therefore Lent is the liturgical time of preparation for Easter, and Advent is the preparation for Christmas. What is Advent for? Our life is a short life. When we get old, we look backwards at all our life and it turns to have been like a dream. Death is similar to a sudden wake up, a wake up to eternal life. Life is like a long night. In the beginning, earthly life wasn t meant to be a night, rather it was supposed to be a bright day. But this world has been overwhelmed with the darkness of sin. That s why we were given a candle the day of our Baptism, so that the light of faith may enable us to walk ahead through dark shadows, till the dawn comes like a thief. We must not lose this light and fall asleep, lest the enemy should come up against us and seize us. Therefore the recommendation of the Lord at the beginning of Advent season: Be watchful! Be alert! You do not know when the time will come (Mk 13:33). Prayer is the major means to keep in mind who our master is, who we are, and what our life is supposed to be all about. In the midst of the hustle and bustle of our daily life, let us lift up our hearts to our master, so that we do not forget Him. He is always looking lovingly upon us, therefore let us live in his divine Presence! Let us switch off every source of noise and listen to Him, at least a handful of minutes a day. Therefore we ll be able to connect with the true sense of life and death, to real happiness, to authentic love. The Sacrament of Reconciliation keeps our guard on, enables our conscience to be ready to sift all things through God s commandments and dispositions. This Christmas the Lord wants to come over to you and me sacramentally, so that when the day of our death comes we will be prepared to pass the last examination of conscience. Let us go to the confessional to clean our souls and refresh our consciences, so that we became fully aware of our real spiritual situation, lest the devil disguised breaks into our heart and take us away with him. Mark this: the more time since your last confession, the more you need it! This Advent, let us get purified so that we can celebrate the Christmas encounter with joy and peace. Often, we think of the devil as the counterpoint to God. And yet, the devil is in fact one of God s creatures, a fallen angel. In that regard, it is more theologically precise to view Satan s rebellion against God as set over and against the obedient fiat of Mary. In other words, her faith-filled obedience stands in marked contrast to the devil s rejection of God s will. True to God s prediction in Genesis 3:15, Satan despises Mary for allowing herself to be used as the instrument through whom our Savior entered the world. His intent is to do whatever it takes to thwart God s plan for salvation. DONATIONS NEEDED FOR THE NEW TABERNACLE!!! Previously everyone was informed that our Tabernacle was broken in to on Halloween night. In order to better protect Christ in the Eucharist Father Jorge has decided to get a new tabernacle. We are asking for donations to help cover the expenses of getting the tabernacle set up; which requires a new stand to put the tabernacle on that cannot be cut through. If you would wish to help in our goal to set up a new tabernacle that can better protect Christ in the tabernacle please write a check to St. Pius and in the memo line fill in Capital Need. FLEECE NAVIDAD SWEATSUITS FOR SENIORS Once again, we are asking parishioners to purchase a new sweatsuit for a Senior this Christmas. These are older folks who live in local Care facilities, but have no family or friends nearby. To be part of this program, please call the Parish Office and you will be assigned the name and size of a Senior. You will have the option of taking the gift to the Senior yourself or arrange for the parish staff to deliver it. Each year, a number of our parishioner families have adopted struggling families in the north Aurora and helped them out at Christmas time. If you would like to be a part of this project, we can find you a family in the community that needs some help with food and gifts for X-mas. We only ask that your assistance be equivalent to a gift or two for each family member and that you provide at least one week s worth of food. You have the option of arranging your gift with the family directly or having us be intermediaries your choice. To Adopt a Family at Christmas, call the parish office GIFT COLLECTION The gifts for our Christmas Baskets for Low Income Families begins with you all taking tags off of our Gifting Tree. After today, gift tags will be available for all of you to take. These tags represent items to buy for the children who will be on our Christmas Basket list. After today, please take a tag (or 2 or 3) from the Gifting Tree and purchase that item. Please bring the tag and the item back to the Narthex unwrapped no later than Sunday, December 14 th. NEED VOLUNTEERS Little Flower Catholic Charities is looking for volunteers. You would need to be able to lift 25 lbs. They are also looking for someone who is bilingual who can help with new clients. Please contact Connor at the parish office for information. ADULT FORMATION Symbolon Continues every Tuesday from 7:00-8:30 P.M. in the family life center. Come learn about your faith in a deeper way. The cost is free and you are not required to make a commitment to come every week. The topics for the next few weeks are: The sacraments: baptism and confirmation; The Eucharist: the source and summer of the Christian life; Walk through the mass: Exploring the sacred Liturgy.
