In this way, He can live, as Risen Lord, in our midst and attract all people to the Father. As part of the Church, we want to be a Home and School of Communion where, through the celebration and living out the Sacraments, and various ministries, each member can live in unity as a child of God, building up the Kingdom of God until Jesus will come again in glory.

2 Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ has forgiven you. (Eph 4:32). Dear parishioners and friends, In spite the alternating of sunny days and rainy ones, of heat and humidity, we continue to take our steps to move towards a deeper union with God. This week, the Liturgy of the Word invites to welcome God as a guest. By welcoming Him and listening to Him we make ourselves available to Him so that he can transform our lives, to change us from within in order to become His new people: members of His household. Mark your calendar: August 15 th, Feast of the Assumption of Mary, Bishop Malooly will celebrate Mass and will lead us to the annual celebration of the Blessing of the Ocean. He will also bless the new painting of St Mary Star of the Sea!!!! Martha and Mary are models for us of being disciples who welcome the Lord in their home, as hospitable and attentive listeners. Along the road leading to Jerusalem, the place of His Passion, Jesus is welcomed in a friendly house. It is the first hospitable reception during a trip that started with a refusal on the part of the Samaritans. The two sisters are contrasted to make a point: Martha welcomes Jesus but her preoccupation with chores threatens her willingness to pay attention to Him. Marta, manifests the joy that comes from the awareness of the exceptional visit of the Lord. She becomes the model for believers in every time and situation of history; our lives truly change when we become aware we are being visited by God Himself. God continuously knocks at our door, wanting to come in to visit, to share with us all that He is! Are we willing to let Him in? 3 SIXTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Abraham and Sarah were visited by three messengers of the Lord who surprised them by revealing part of God s plan for them. What is God s plan for you? What are you doing to figure it out? How are you listening for it? That process is called discernment. If you want to learn more about discerning God s call, we re here to help. They also wanted to let you know that they have begun accepting Clean, Gently Used Household Items as well as Jewelry and Toys. It is best to bring them by when they are here on Wednesday Mornings as they can help you unload. Please, as in past years, no electrical appliances. Thank you. Thank you to everyone who is already returning your raffle tickets. We are already over $1,500. so far. If you need extras you can stop by the parish office or just get them from the ticket sellers outside of church on the weekend. You don t even have to put a stamp on them, just place the envelope in the collection basket. If you are unable to purchase them this year, we ask that you still return them as we can use them for sales after Masses. CUBE OF LOVE July 17, 2016 In the Gospel today Jesus talks about hospitality. He challenges us to think about what is important when we have guests in our home. Should we concentrate on making sure all the details of the meal we are preparing are just right or should we focus our energies on the loving welcome we give to our guest? This reading can be a real challenge for us. In this day and age when we seem to find ourselves slaves to the electronic world I-phones, texting, and s it is a real challenge for us to let go of the need to stay connected and enjoy the company of those in our present moment. This week let s try to put more of our energies into the relationships we have around us and less into the social media that calls for our attention. The Annual White Marlin Open is just around the corner from August 8th to the 12th! As many of you know, we will be renting spaces as a fund raiser throughout the event. We welcome you to use our parking facility for $10. per night and also if you would like to help us out with this fundraiser, please call Donna in the parish office and we will get you signed up. July Luncheon Wednesday, June 29 th was the date of our first monthly luncheon and we had a wonderful time. Thirteen of us met at Sunset Grille, all of us enjoyed our lunches and it was so nice chatting and getting to know each other. Our next lunch date is Wednesday, July 27 th at Fish Tales, located on 21 st Street and the bay. Lunch time: 12 noon. Please call Donna at by Friday, July 23 rd, to make a reservation. All are welcome. St. Peter s Luthern Church is having their Peach Festival on Thursday, August 4th from 9am to 3pm. They will have Bake Table, Books, Bulk Peaches, Flea Market, Face Painting, Food, Sodas, Games, Health Fair, Holiday Items, Ice Cream & Peaches, Peach Smoothies, Silent Auction, Music and Vendor Tables. Stop by and see them at Coastal Highway, Ocean City, MD. SAVE THE DATE: Holy Spirit Parish and the Shrine of Our Lady Queen of Peace will host the Catholic Diocese of Wilmington's Annual Marian Pilgrimage on Saturday October 1 from 9AM to 5PM. Scheduled guest speaker: Dr. Anthony Esolen, Professor of English at Providence College, contributor to Magnificat magazine, author of Defending Marriage, and translator of Dante's Divine Comedy. But Martha was upset because she forgot to stop and make time for Jesus. Mary had the right idea. She took a break from her work to listen to Jesus. Time with Jesus is precious, so we need to make time to rest and enjoy his love. Prayer Dear God, thank you for reminding me to stop and enjoy time with you. 5 SIXTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME It s beginning to look a lot like VBS everywhere you look take a look in the foyer today, one in the long hallway with stalagmite and stalactites a glow! We are a week away and things are starting to take shape. I am so excited!!!! I love VBS the songs, the kids, the lessons so much fun!!! There is still a little room left for both volunteers and participants so hurry on over and get registered! We are still working and gathering supplies so Can t let a weekend go by without a VBS materials check in We are now looking for Great stuff insulating foam, paints (Black Brown gray purple and blues),christmas lights that work but you would be willing to give away because we will be making them unusable as Christmas lights!! The Website is up and open for campers and volunteers...check it out at Religious Ed requests The Year of Mercy~ Christion Formation Committee Just a reminder ~We are going to be collecting bottles of drinking water that will be distributed this Summer to those that need it. It will be shared with the international students thru their programs, it will also be shared with public works people, and our emergency personnel. This is just our start we will continue so keep an eye here to witness our next steps!! We wish to work fervently toward giving drink to the thirsty! So we ask anyone that is able to donate bottled water to be used to give drink to the thirsty. You may bring it into the foyer after Mass! Thank you for your help!!
