Once a fire is detected in the home, there is a short window of time to successfully escape before the smoke becomes overwhelming. Consequently, it is important for parents and caregivers to not only create a plan for escape, but also practice that plan with their children. 3 Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time Page Three Dear Faith Family, It feels good to be back writing a letter for all of you! Youth Ministry in our parish has been thriving and I thank all of you for the dedication that you have to all of our teens. A couple of weeks ago, on Valentine s Day, our Year 2 candidates and leaders embarked on a retreat to St. Mary s Seminary in Santa Barbara. Although we were happy to provide an opportunity for child care service for our teen s parents so they could have their own romantic evening, the fact is that everyone who went to Santa Barbara was truly blessed to have their own one on one time with our Savior. It was very appropriate that our retreat began on Valentines Day. The yearning to love and to be loved is so evident within our human nature and Valentines Day is a great day to explore what true love is. The sad reality though, is that we can take advantage of what the term is. So many times during the day I find myself saying that I love various things. While I do express to be enamored with the Dodgers and cookie dough ice cream, I m not quite sure if I would die for them. Throughout the weekend our goal was to spend time with God who loves us enough to die for us. The goal of the weekend was to get away from all our worldly distractions so we could focus solely on the one we love. The fact of the matter is, sometimes we need to get away from our daily distractions to spend time with those that we love. With every relationship, it is absolutely vital to take time to just be with each other. This is essentially what a retreat is. As we participate in the season of lent, let s live everyday like a retreat experience. Let s grow closer to our loving God by leaving whatever distractions we may have, clearing the way for God s love. Love, Brett Becker Youth/Young Adults Minister Faith Sharing... Kristen Bright kmariebright@gmail.com Liturgy of the Word for Children What a joy it is to watch children in grades 1 through 5 process out of church during the 9:00 and 11:00am masses. They are so full of life. They, along with their leaders, go over to the Serra Center where mass continues for them. They divide into two groups and celebrate the Liturgy of the Word from the children s lectionary. They rejoin their families in church in time for the Eucharistic prayer. All elementary age children are welcome to participate. Ash Wednesday Children s Services ~ March 3, 4, 5 Join our Faith Formation Centers for a child-friendly prayer service and receive ashes. Interactive Stations of the Cross ~ April 4 Join us in church between 6:00pm and 8:00pm for a beautiful, interactive experience of Stations of the Cross. Stations are lead by our Faith Formation children. Parishioners and guests go through in small groups for an intimate experience of this sacred prayer.
