3 DEAR FRIENDS World Student Day unites our global movement students, staff, and supporters to celebrate all that God is doing through IFES, and to pray for student ministry across the world. This year the theme is Something New (Isa 43:19). God is always doing a new thing. We see it when he calls us to witness to Jesus. We see it every time a student turns to follow Christ. And ultimately, we see it in Jesus himself, who steps into the dark and dry places, bringing light and life. Today there are more than 200 million students worldwide and the number keeps going up. There are still countries, cities and forgotten corners of campuses, without anyone to introduce these students to Jesus. 4 01 05 AUG Europe 01/08 IFES Europe Formación [student leadership conference] runs 1-10 Aug. Pray for student leaders to be equipped for their roles serving students. 02/08 Diana is a pioneering staff worker with OSCER Romania. She shares: pray for plans to pioneer in a new university city and for the students there to be responsive. attendees will be prepared to be salt and light to colleagues. 04/08 Give thanks for GBU France reaching Muslims through five Bible and Quran discussion groups across the country. Praise God for 60 Muslim students participating so far and ask for the work to grow. 05/08 Pray for the final plans and preparations of Student Equip, ÖSM Austria s training program in discipleship, theology and apologetics for students and academics running 2-7 Sep. 03/08 LKSB Lithuania s camp Living Island for final year students and graduates begins today and runs until 5 Aug. Participants will explore what it means to live for Christ in the workplace and a biblical view of rest. Ask that

5 06 10 AUG South Pacific 06/08 IFES South Pacific Regional Conference takes place 30 Aug-2 Sep in Vanuatu, followed by a week s outreach to the surrounding villages and small islands. Pray for students to be bold in evangelism and for many to hear and receive the good news. 07/08 Pray for TSCF Papua New Guinea s plans to launch a new apprenticeship ministry training program for recent graduates. Ask that through this program the movement will recruit new staff for the work. Annelise, writes: pray for our club to be a place where Christians are encouraged and equipped to live out the Great Commission. 09/08 Give thanks for TSCF New Zealand s Celebrate Wellington event last week, sharing the vision of TSCF with supporters in Wellington. Pray for more supporters for the work. 10/08 SIU-CF Solomon Islands national student conference runs Aug. Pray that many would attend and that the movement would be able to reach out to more students. 08/08 Sharing the gospel can be challenging. AFES Australia student,

6 11 15 AUG Latin America 11/08 Pray for those affected by the destruction caused by the eruption of the Fuego volcano in Guatemala. Ask that GEU Guatemala would have wisdom in how to respond. 12/08 Cesar is a Compa Mexico student in Guanajuato. He shares: we face challenges including exclusion and people mocking and sneering at us. Ask [God] for courage so we can share our faith with love and humility. it is God s timing. We are starting in Pérez Zeledón. 14/08 Join with ABU Brazil in giving thanks for their holiday course with the theme Where are the righteous? focusing on the book of Romans. Ask that students would model righteous living to their friends and classmates. 15/08 The IFES Innovation Evangelism project provides grants for creative evangelistic initiatives. Pray for Genesis - CECE Ecuador s environmental project involving Bible studies and practical outreach. 13/08 Please pray for ECU Costa Rica s dream of starting new groups in the South zone. We have been praying for opportunities for many years, and now

7 16 20 AUG Middle East and North Africa 16/08 Join with FCSI Israel in praising God for Rasha Saba, their new General Secretary. Pray for God s guidance as she takes on this role. 17/08 Today LIVF Lebanon s summer conference Choose Life begins in Cyprus and ends on 24 Aug. Pray for all students to realize that [Jesus] is the core of our choices and decisions. that student ministry would continue to develop. 19/08 Give thanks for IFES MENA Regional Secretary Jamil s trip to the UK. Praise God for this opportunity to share about student ministry in MENA with supporters. 20/08 FOCUS UAE give thanks for a retreat looking at the topics of fearlessness and leadership. Ask that God would raise up bold and courageous student leaders. 18/08 Praise God for good contacts opening the door for pioneering work in a sensitive country. Give thanks for a Bible conference held there and ask

8 21 25 AUG Francophone Africa 21/08 Give thanks for IFES Indigenous Support Development training in Congo, DR Congo and Burkina Faso helping national movements to establish sustainable sources of income. 22/08 Kouffo is a department in the south of Benin. Pray for the revival of a student group there and for new students to support the work. 23/08 Pray for national movement staff who have completed theology and ministry training at IFES Francophone Africa Centre Africain du Christianisme Contemporain. Ask for opportunities to put their learning into practice. 24/08 GBU DR Congo praise God for three groups starting in Yangambi as part of IFES Breaking New Ground initiative, which provides grants to pioneer student ministry in new cities. Ask that God will complete the good work he has begun. 25/08 The African Mission Conference of the Great Lakes starts today in Rwanda and runs until 30 Aug. Pray that students from Rwanda, Burundi and Eastern DR Congo will get involved in mission to this region.

9 26 30 AUG North America 26/08 Praise God for Ruben Nicolas, GBUC Canada General Secretary, speaking about student ministry on a Christian radio show. Pray that listeners across the francophone world would catch the vision of IFES. 27/08 Pray for InterVarsity/USA students as they prepare for freshers week events on campuses across the country. Ask current students would be welcoming and that many Christian freshers would join InterVarsity groups. student who has given her life to Christ after attending several events over the academic year. 29/08 Over 200 speakers will speak at the North American movements global missions conference Urbana 2018 in St Louis, Missouri from Dec. Pray for each of them as they prepare and ask that God would speak powerfully through them. 30/08 GBUC Canada give thanks for their summer group who have been studying the book of Revelation. Thank God for students who have experienced fresh revelations of God s character through reading his Word. 28/08 Join with InterVarsity/Canada staff worker Alan in praising God for a

10 31 AUG 04 SEP English- and Portuguese- Speaking Africa 31/08 Pray that God will continue to draw the hearts of our national student leaders to himself and to the vision of LIFES ministry. - LIFES Liberia. 01/09 SCO South Africa held their national conference last month. Thank God for this time to hear afresh from his Word and reflect upon and shape their mission. to meet with supporters, strengthen relationships and build partnerships. 03/09 Praise God for the appointment of Mussa Kimbaro as TAFES Tanzania s new General Secretary. Ask for God s presence with him as he settles into a new city and a new role. 04/09 IFES EPSA are continuing to pioneer student ministry in the Cape Verde Islands. Pray for partnerships to be established with fellow Portuguesespeaking island São Tomé and Príncipe. 02/09 Give thanks for Zelalem Abebe, IFES EPSA Regional Secretary s, visit to the USA. Praise God for this opportunity

11 05 09 SEP International 05/09 Pray for the recruitment and induction of three new staff for IFES International Services (Asia) to help with e-learning design, manage supporter relations and provide donor support. 06/09 The IFES Governance Development Program have launched three new e-learning courses. Pray that national movement boards and individuals would use these courses to strengthen their work and movements. French, Spanish and Russian. Pray that it would help many students read the Bible with their friends. 08/09 Fundraising for World Assembly 2019 is already underway, pray for national movements as they plan events to fund the cost of sending representatives. 09/08 Robert Heimburger is Chair of IFES Theological Advisory Committee and editor of IFES Word and World journal which explores faith and contemporary issues. Pray that this publication would help many connect their faith with the world around them. 07/09 Praise God for collaboration between UCCF Great Britain and IFES to launch Uncover Mark [evangelistic Bible study tool] not just in English, but also in

12 10 14 SEP East Asia 10/09 Our mission team are on trips going to rural places during summer time. Please pray for their impacts, safety and learning experience for those who join. - A movement in a closed country. 11/ non-christian students joined KGK Japan events in the last calendar year and 33 have been baptised. Praise God for his saving work among students. 13/09 Churches in a sensitive country are being closed down and many students are afraid to keep Bibles or Christian books in their dormitories for fear of searches. Please pray for perseverance and courage in the wake of these challenges 14/09 FES Singapore hold their national conference To Affinity and Beyond from Sep. Pray for the working committee to be focused in all the preparations that need to be done. 12/09 Give thanks with FES Hong Kong for discipleship and Bible study leaders training. Pray that student leaders will effectively apply their training to their own ministries.

13 15 19 SEP Eurasia 15/09 The IFES Breaking New Ground project supports national movements to pioneer in new cities. Give thanks for 25 CCX Russia students attending training on leading Bible study groups. Pray for the 13 new groups they plan to pioneer across five cities. 16/09 Join with a movement in a closed country in giving thanks for 25 years of IFES linked student witness. Pray for the ministry to develop and thrive despite increasing restrictions from authorities. summer team. Pray for follow-up with the non-christians who attended the camp. 18/09 In a region with a high population of Muslim students, pray for Christian students to extend hospitality to their Muslim neighbours. Ask that God would reveal himself to them. 19/09 This year CCX Ukraine have reached 980 students with the gospel through mission weeks. Praise God for six students coming to Christ and pray for the ongoing follow-up of 75 interested students. 17/09 Praise God for CSC Moldova s English and Bible summer camp in conjunction with a UCCF Great Britain

14 20 24 SEP South Asia 20/09 In Sri Lanka the day of the month with a full-moon is known as Poya day. Pray for FOCUS Sri Lanka students meeting every Poya day to study God s Word and discuss topical issues such as God and Suffering. 21/09 Students from different backgrounds have started reading the Bible. Please pray for student leaders to persevere with confidence and hope, building better relationships and presenting the gospel creatively. - Dhanya, UESI India. 22/09 Give thanks for pioneering work and good contacts in sensitive countries in the region. Pray for student movements to take root in these places. 23/09 Pray for the planning and preparations of BSFB Bangladesh s national camp Stand next month Oct. Ask that students would learn what it means to stand up for Christ. 24/09 NBCBS Nepal ran inductive Bible study training for their Bible study leaders. Praise God that many students who attended the Bible studies shared that their understanding and enjoyment of studying God s Word had increased.

15 25 30 SEP Caribbean 25/09 Give thanks for the work of IFES Caribbean Regional Secretary, Desmond Rogers, who will step down at the end of the year after 13 years of service. Pray for the appointment of the next regional secretary. 26/09 A new IS/IVCF Belize group has begun at Belmopan Comprehensive School in Belize s capital. Pray for more Christian teachers to help support school groups. 27/09 Numbers of international students have increased across the Caribbean in recent years. Pray for IFES Caribbean s International Student Ministry, ask that students would be welcoming and keen to share their faith. 28/09 SCF/SU Jamaica ask us to pray that their student ministry achieves and surpasses the target of 3,000 students making decisions for Christ. 29/09 In Guyana, IS/IVCF are working on a strategic plan for ministry. Pray for God s guidance in consultations with focus groups being held across the country. 30/09 As the ministry grows so does its financial need. Pray for God s provision of funds for IS/IVCF Cayman Islands student ministry.
