STEWARDSHIP Christmas, $41,455 December 30, $7,545 WeShare - $2,247 January 6, $9,211 Thank you to those who regularly and generously give of their treasure as well as those who give of their time and talent to support the work of our Church. CHANGE IS INEVITABLE As we move into the new year of 2019 with expectations and hope for a year of happiness, good fortune and health, we look to ways of improving our work with the poor and connecting the proper resources to the emerging problems facing the poor. As Ben Franklin said after working on our nation s Constitution and founding, he reflected that two things are inevitable for everyone: death and taxes. Later on, a number of philosophers and educators claimed three things as inevitable to our nature as humans: death, taxes, and change. More recently a more cynical outlook claimed these three to be unavoidable: death, taxes and the corruption that both cause. As we change our calendars to the year 2019, we, too, will be making changes in our lives, our health and paying our unavoidable tax bills. For our parish SVDP Conference and its Members, we must prepare for change both in our manner and programs of serving today s poor and making the necessary tax reporting changes to maintain our notfor-profit incorporation status. Because we have no paid staff, do not provide material benefits (we hope for spiritual benefits for all) and do not collect any fees for our services, we still have to comply with the changing IRS regulations and laws. In the next few months we hope to bring those changes about while being better prepared to meet the ever changing needs of the disadvantaged and poor we wish to serve. For the next few weeks we will have for all of our wonderful donors and benefactors tax donation receipts on the table in the entrance area of our church. There will be separate receipts for claiming your CASH donations (church envelopes, Lenten Cup proceeds, special gifts for the poor, etc.), receipts for FOOD donations for the York Township Food Pantry, and for the in-kind donations for the HOUSEHOLD & CLOTHING GOODS brought to our Thrift Stores and Truck Pick-up collections throughout the year. We hope to see our changes in 2019 to be like the Phoenix rising from the ashes of past missteps in serving the poor or like the Bears (and Notre Dame) finishing in higher style their next seasons. HELP US HELP OTHERS.
5 Vince Zaprzal Director of Parish Ministries, Religious Education & Facilities Dear Parishioners, As we conclude our Christmas Season, I wanted to take a moment to thank all of those who have made our Christmas celebration so joyous. To Father Jose, Father Bob, Father Bill, the Comboni Priests, and Deacon Peter for their constant care of our spiritual growth during this liturgical season. To Darlene Crilly and the entire Music Ministry for all of their hard work and effort to make not only Christmas but the entire Christmas season beautiful! To Jodi Palmer and those who help with our Art and Environment our prayer was enhanced by the beautiful works that were created. To all of our liturgical ministers who assist in the many ways at Mass. Thank you! To Ed Rylko, Jean Palasz, Lynda Klazura, Tina Bustamante, Dennis Bero, Tom Weir, and Mari Hanna who keep up with all of the extra requests asked of them during this busy season. Thank you! To those that join us in prayer each and every week. Ascension of Our Lord is a better place because of your presence and your dedication through Time, Talent, Treasure, and most importantly, Prayer. Peace, Vince The Baptism of the Lord Today we celebrate the feast of the Baptism of the Lord. In today's Gospel, as in the other Gospel accounts of Jesus' baptism, we hear John the Baptist address the confusion of the people who thought that John might be the Messiah. In response, John contrasts the baptism that he performs with the Baptism that Jesus will inaugurate. John the Baptist says that he has baptized with water, but that someone will come and baptize with the Holy Spirit. The type of baptism that John performed was not yet a Christian Baptism; it was a preparation for Christian Baptism through which sins are forgiven and the gift of the Holy Spirit is received. The baptism of Jesus is reported in each of the three Synoptic Gospels Matthew, Mark, and Luke. Clearly, it was an event of great significance for Jesus and for the early Christian community. The Evangelists Mark and Luke report the story from Jesus' perspective; the voice from heaven is addressed to Jesus. Compare this to Matthew's Gospel in which the voice from heaven speaks to everyone. In Luke, however, the Holy Spirit descends upon Jesus during his time of prayer after his baptism. Through his Gospel, Luke will show Jesus to be a person of prayer who withdraws regularly from the crowds and his disciples to pray to his Father. The baptism of Jesus is considered a manifestation of God in Jesus, another epiphany. On this, the last day of the Christmas season, our Gospel reveals to us Jesus' relation to God: the son of Mary and Joseph is also God's own Son. In Luke's Gospel, all three members of the Trinity are manifested here: God the Father in the voice, the Holy Spirit descending, and Jesus the Son. At the beginning of his Gospel, Luke is communicating to us important information about the identity of Jesus. In the verses that follow, Luke lists the genealogy of Jesus, tracing Jesus' ancestry back to the first person, Adam, who is also identified as the son of God. We, the children of Adam and Eve, are again made children of God through Baptism. Adapted from:

He eventually served as Lord Chancellor. It was in this office that More would resist King Henry VIII s desire to divorce his wife and declare himself head of the Church. More eventually resigned from his position, but was subsequently accused of treason. Despite coercion, pressure, and imprisonment, More would stay faithful to the Catholic Church. More was condemned to die, and was martyred by beheading on July 6, 1535.Thomas More was canonized in For more information and to RSVP, visit: Seniors Invited to Defer Property Taxes Qualified senior citizens aged 65 years and older are invited to apply for the Senior Citizen Real Estate Tax Deferral Program.
