All who profess faith in Jesus Christ are welcome to the Lord s Table. The ushers will ask you to come forward in groups to form a semi-circle around the Communion Table. After taking a piece of bread, dip it in either the wine (first chalice) or grape juice (second chalice) and eat. PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING WITH THE LORD S PRAYER *BENEDICTION *Please stand if able. 3 All children are welcome here, but we know that a fussy baby is much louder to a parent s ears than to any of ours. If you have need: We have a nursery (for children kindergarten and below) down the main stairs and to the left. It is staffed with volunteers, who will gladly care for any little ones who show up at the beginning of the service. If there are none, the volunteers will come up to the sanctuary, the nursery room will remain available. There is also a diaper change station in the Nursery and in both downstairs restrooms. We have a speaker in the narthex so that you DIY soothers can listen while you walk the little ones around. Worship Service Notes ANNOUNCEMENTS NEWSLETTER DEADLINE Any and all items for the February edition of the Messenger (newsletter) need to be ed to gspc@comcast.net by tomorrow Monday, Jan. 28 th. ANNUAL CONGREGATIONAL MEETING The Annual Meeting of the GSPC congregation will be held today at 11:30 a.m. All members are encouraged to attend. The Annual Reports packet is available in the narthex, please take one per family. The call for the meeting is below: Call to order with prayer Clerk certifies that there is a quorum and that the call was in order. Elect three members (Not on current Session) to serve on the Nominating Committee for Calendar Year Elect one alternate. Present the Report on the 2019 Financial Campaign. Approve any changes to the Pastor s 2019 Terms of Call as recommended by the Personnel Committee and approved by the Session. Present the Calendar Year 2019 Operating / Program Budget. Present the Report of Activities of Calendar Year 2018 from the Pastor, Clerk, Program and other Committee Chairs. Meeting as GSPC, INC. Any Business as needed. Adjournment with prayer. Immediately following the Congregational Meeting the Youth Group will be selling hot dogs to support their mission project. JOYFUL NOISE OFFERING On February 3 rd, the children and youth of GSPC will be taking up a special "Joyful Noise" offering. This offering is specifically for loose change, paper money doesn't make noise. The kids will be collecting the change in cans and rattling as they go. The proceeds of this offering will go to support Sheila, a little girl from Africa that the Sunday school classes and youth group have been supporting for a few years. Remember to bring your loose change with you on February 3. CHILI COOK OFF Want to melt away those winter blues? Try a variety of chilis? There is a chili cook off planned for Sunday, February 3 rd. A sign-up sheet is available in the narthex for those who wish to participate either as chili chefs or by contributing salad, bread or dessert to share. Announcements continued on next page.

4 FRIENDS WHO LUNCH The Friends Who Lunch will meet together this Tuesday, February 12 th, with a luncheon at Carolina Kitchen in Brandywine. They will meet there at 12:00 noon. Please plan to join us for good food and great fellowship. There is a sign-up sheet in the narthex. For further information call the church office. SERVICE OF HEALING AND WHOLENESS On February 17 during both services we will have a Service of Healing and Wholeness. FIRST READING ISAIAH 58: Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of injustice, to undo the thongs of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke? 7 Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, and bring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked, to cover them, and not to hide yourself from your own kin? 8 Then your light shall break forth like the dawn, and your healing shall spring up quickly; your vindicator shall go before you, the glory of the LORD shall be your rear guard. 9 Then you shall call, and the LORD will answer; you shall cry for help, and he will say, Here I am. If you remove the yoke from among you, the pointing of the finger, the speaking of evil, 10 if you offer your food to the hungry and satisfy the needs of the afflicted, then your light shall rise in the darkness and your gloom be like the noonday. 11 The LORD will guide you continually, and satisfy your needs in parched places, and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters never fail. 12 Your ancient ruins shall be rebuilt; you shall raise up the foundations of many generations; you shall be called the repairer of the breach, the restorer of streets to live in. SECOND READING LUKE 4: Then Jesus, filled with the power of the Spirit, returned to Galilee, and a report about him spread through all the surrounding country. 15 He began to teach in their synagogues and was praised by everyone. 16 When he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, he went to the synagogue on the sabbath day, as was his custom. He stood up to read, 17 and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written: 18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, 19 to proclaim the year of the Lord s favor. 20 And he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. The eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him. 21 Then he began to say to them, Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.
