2 THE BAPTISM OF THE LORD Stewardship, A Way of Life Tithing God s Plan for Giving Biblically a tithe means 10%. All are asked to consider tithing and return 10% of our income to the Lord (5% to the parish, 5% to your favorite charity). The spiritual practice of tithing disposes us to make God first in every area of our lives! The aim is to secure not the tithe, but the tither, not the gift, but the giver for God! JANUARY 6, 2019 In Pew Collection $16, (From 409 Households) Loose Cash $ Online Giving $ 8, (From 110 Households) Total Collection $25, January 7, 2018 $24, Currently, we have 1803 household The Catholic Catechism states that Jesus immersion in the water is a sign for all human beings of the need to die to themselves to do God s will. In other words, as baptized Catholics there is only one gift that we need to give to Jesus the gift of ourselves. Surrender yourself to God, place your trust in Him and allow the Holy Spirit to work through you for the greater glory of God. REMEMBER GOOD SHEPHERD PARISH IN YOUR WILL BISHOP GAINER TO HOST LISTENING SESSION Bishop Gainer invites all members of the Good Shepherd Parish to attend a Listening Session on Monday, January 21, 2019 at Saint Joseph s Parish in Mechanicsburg, PA at 7:00 p.m. He encourages anyone with questions regarding the Grand Jury Report, the Diocese s response to abuse, our path forward, or any other questions or concerns to attend this session. The session will include opening remarks from Bishop Gainer and retired Pennsylvania State Police Capt. Janet McNeal, recently hired to oversee the youth protection efforts of the diocese. Following their brief remarks, the floor will be opened for questions. If you are unable to attend this Listening Session, but would still like to ask Bishop Gainer a question, please your question to: AskBishopGainer@hbgdiocese.org. CONTEMPORARY CHOIR If you play the piano, electric piano, guitar, bass, flute, drums, sing.then Fr. Burger is looking for you. I would like to see a Contemporary Choir be formed in our parish. If you are interested and I hope there are people interested, please contact me at the parish office Convenient Form Of Stewardship Online giving at Good Shepherd is an option for parishioners who may find this method of giving more convenient. Our website, contains the link to our online donation system, WeShare. Parishioners have the ability to make monthly recurring donations online. For example, instead of making 52 weekly donations, you may authorize twelve monthly recurring payments that are regularly charged to your credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express or Discover) or transferred from your checking or savings account. Many Good Shepherd parishioners have found this to be a simpler and more consistent way of donating. Additionally, monthly recurring donations enable our parish to better plan and manage our finances. If you haven t enrolled in our online donation system and are interested, please visit the parish website and click on: Next follow the simple instructions to create a new account. A record of your contributions is kept on your account online, as well as posted to our records for tax purposes. If you have questions or would like more information, please contact the Parish Office at We would like to thank The Pizza Grille this week for sponsoring an AD in our weekly bulletin. (SPONSORS DEFRAY THE COST OF PRINTNG THE BULLETIN)

The Book is Titled: Love and the Practice of Virtue Relating to God. By: Rev. Benedict Faneye, OP Love is one word that could be subject to as many explanations as there are those willing to give. But, at the heart of LOVE is Virtue which admits of no duplicity. Love acknowledges the reality of the imperfect human condition, and it is in that acknowledgment that the individual realizes either that you are not alone in your struggle, or that you have been chosen to help others in their moments of need. Though one may not realize the responsibility, it is enormous and not something to be taken lightly. In the life of virtue, constancy is a necessity while striving to be a virtuous person. In other words, no wavering! Love and the Practice of Virtue portrays how by learning to be virtuous in our actions, we learn to love one another since this is the path to our true End, which is our eternal happiness. For one who learns to love and striving for the virtuous life, the challenge remains to be a reflection of the One who is the source of all Good. The Cost is $11 per copy. Books can be purchased in the Parish Office during normal business hours. End-of-Year Statement for 2018 Contributions Statements will be mailed to all parishioners who contributed $250 or more in 2018, by the end of January, If you are not scheduled to receive a statement and would like one, please contact the Parish Office at Thank you for your continued generosity to Good Shepherd.
4 THE BAPTISM OF THE LORD Don t Get Scammed! Scammers are now posing as priests and other clergy. In this latest scam, you might receive an or a text message that appears to be from your Pastor or another priest that you may know. The scammer asks you to help someone in need by purchasing a gift card and to provide the codes on that card. Here s how to protect yourself from being scammed: 1 Know that scammers are out there. Be suspicious of any request for funds of any type via an message or a text message. Verify any request with a call to the person who supposedly sent it or a call to the phone number of the text that you received. 2 Know that any from a priest should be from a diocesan or parish account. Messages sent from free services, such as Gmail or Yahoo, are more likely to be scammers. 3 Many clergy do not share their cell phone numbers publicly. If you receive a text message from someone not on your phone s contact list, be suspicious. 4 Know that priests will NEVER ask for financial transactions via or text messages. by Jeff Cavins and Thomas Smith BIBLE STUDY TIME IS BACK REVELATION Revelation: The Kingdom Yet to Come is an intriguing study that shows how the kingdom established by Christ in his Church is intimately connected with the kingdom of heaven. Here you will discover what the mysterious figures and images of Revelation mean. You will see how Revelation is more than an apocalyptic vision of the "end times." It is a revelation of God as our Divine Bridegroom and the Church as his spotless Bride, forever united in a heavenly, holy, and mystical marriage that we enter into every time we celebrate the Mass. Your Group Will: Learn the meaning of the mysterious figures and events in the book of Revelation. Discover how the Mass is really heaven on earth. Learn about the Antichrist and his destruction. See the Second Coming of Christ and the Final Judgment in the context of history. Learn what will happen at the end of time and the establishment of a new heaven and a new earth. As in the past, we will offer the programs on Tuesday morning form 10:00 a.m. noon, beginning January 29 or Thursday evening from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. beginning on January 31. Sessions will end April 9 and April 11. This year, we are also able to offer an additional option to follow this program at your own pace and place of your choosing by streaming it on your devices, (Lap Top, IPads, IPhones, etc.) Although we encourage your participation in the Tuesday or Thursday group sessions, this new option is available for those who are interested in the program but not able to attend the group sessions. Those who choose streaming sessions will receive the instructions and access codes necessary to access the program after registration is complete and workbooks are in.
