1 The Leadership Journey TLJ Leader Self Assessment TLJ Leader s name: Date: Our goal for The Leadership Journey is to provide local church- based leadership in three areas: Heart (being: character & values) Head (knowing: understanding & attitudes) Hands (doing: action & skills) Over the years, leaders have discovered that godly character is critical to effective ministry for Christ. TLJ Leaders function as shepherd leaders who are leading others in the ministry. As no one is perfect and everyone has weaknesses and flaws as well as strengths, this assessment is to help us get an overall picture of where the leader is and where he or she needs to develop in character. Instructions Each of the qualities listed below is divided into three sections. Each section is divided into three degrees and numbered accordingly from 1 to 9. Please circle the number which best describes you. Your honest opinion is appreciated. HEART The individual demonstrates a heart for God, a heart for others, and heart to embrace themselves. This competency is assessed through the following questions: 1. Do you enjoy a vital spiritual life? Is your walk with God vital and maturing such that you are longing for God s presence? Is there evidence of personal holiness, obedience and surrender? Superficial or struggling relationship with God Genuine, but static relationship with God Enjoy a vital & intimate relationship with God 2. Have you been a Christian for a while? Are you a recent convert? Are you a new Christian who constantly struggles with pride and conceit? Christian 5 years or less Christian 6-10 years Christian more than 10 years 3. Are you above reproach? Do you generally have a good relationship with people? Have you done nothing that someone could use as an accusation against you? 2 4. Are you temperate? Are you a well- balanced person who does not overdo it? Are you not excessive or given to extremes in beliefs, etc? Controlled by flesh Excess in some areas of life Self- controlled 5. Are you self- disciplined? Do you let other people or things control your life? Are you neither extreme nor excessive? Do some of what is required Do all that is required Structure and manage your life well 6. Are you respectable? Do you conduct your life in an honorable way; and are you respected by others? Lacking dignity and the respect of others Inconsistent Dignified and respected 7. Are you double- tongued? Is your word to be trusted? Your word not to be trusted Expediency rules Keeping your word 8. Are you addicted to wine or other substances? If you drink alcoholic beverages, or indulge in other acceptable but potentially addictive practices, do you do so in moderation? Been under the influence on occasion Drink in moderation Abstain 9. Are you gentle and not pugnacious? Are you an un- contentious peacemaker who avoids hostile situations with people? Easily provoked Feisty on occasion Gentle in all your dealings 10. This competency is assessed through the following questions: 19. Do you have a strong biblical foundation? Are you biblically grounded? Is the Bible integrated in your personal and ministry life? Little understanding of the bible or biblical principles Growing in biblical knowledge Bible is integrated in your personal and ministry life 20. Do you hold fast and remain faithful to the Word? Are you a person of biblical principle and hold yourself subject to the Word? Compromiser Sometimes inconsistent in obedience to the Word Person of biblical principle, subject to the Word 21. Are you adaptable? Are you flexible in your approach to problems solving? Do you enjoy new ways and challenges? Get upset when things change Adapt when you must, but not happily Flexible and enjoy new ways and challenges 22. Do you demonstrate sound judgment? Do you show discernment and common sense?
