The task force s study concluded with the following statement. To those who wonder how we can afford to make the investment necessary to sustain, strengthen, and expand Catholic schools, we respond by turning the question on its head. How can we afford not to make this investment? Our future depends on it more than we may suspect. Recognizing the value and importance of our diocesan Catholic schools, Bishop John M. LeVoir has implemented a second collection the weekend of January 26 and 27 for the purpose of sustaining and strengthening the Catholic schools of the diocese. 3 Dear Parishioners, A NOTE FROM FATHER Our sympathy to the families of Fran Renne and Ruth Miller. May their souls, and the souls of all the faithful departed, rest in peace. In September, CliftonLarsonAllen preformed, at the request of the Diocese of New Ulm an audit for both of our parishes, along with a number of other parishes in our Diocese. We finally received the written report last week. We will be formally announcing the results of the audit soon, once the ones who are invited to share it have studied it and condensed it enough to share in a few minutes (Neither the staff nor I will present it). Suffice it to say that the few areas of concern they found we were already aware of, in the process of addressing, or were relatively easy fixes, such as writing or adopting certain polices. I am thankful that the audit report has been received and look forward to hearing the response from the report you will receive. This week marks the 46th anniversary of the Roe vs. Wade decision which legalized abortion. This decision is a travesty - one that does not empower anyone, but instead victimizes the most vulnerable in what ought to be the safest of places. Margaret Sanger, the founders in what would become Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion provider in the US (they are responsible for a third of the abortions), was a rapid eugenist who sought to eliminate certain less-suitable populations. That overt racism has never left the abortion movement. Last year, for example, more African American children were aborted than born in New York City. Some who have pointed that out have been called racist, ironically, as they demonstrate true concern for both mother and child. Women deserve better than abortion. Children deserve better. We should not only pray for an end to abortion that kills a new life, but work for the day in which all have the support they need. ~ In Christ, Fr. Todd JOHN IRELAND/LITTLE ANGELS NEWS We are a Catholic community welcoming students of all faiths, devoted to Gospel Values, Academic Excellence, and Christian Service Students in grades 3-6 went to the University of Minnesota on Tuesday for the Physics Show! It was very exciting and interesting! Our PE teacher, Mrs. Wavrin organized a ski trip to Mount Kato for the early release on Friday for anyone interested. Overall feedback, it was a great time! Thanks Mrs. Wavrin! 5 CHURCH OF ST. PETER Catholic Watchmen Gathering The Catholic Watchmen is a movement calling men to be protectors, providers and leaders of their families and parishes. Through regular gatherings, men will come together to join in this mission to protect their families through dinner, fellowship, learning, and prayer. Our next gathering will be on January 28th from 6:30-8:30pm. Father Todd will be speaking about being a Catholic man following the example of St. John. All men of our parish are invited to the event. Mark your calendar: May 6th will be the final gathering this year. Catholic Daughters We welcome Cindy Lynch as our new Treasurer to finish out the term of Marlaine Smisek. Thanks to Marlaine for her services and good luck in your new home. February is Baby Shower month and we invite all parishioners to participate in this project. Next Regent outing is January 20th meet at the CC at 5pm. Growing Together in a Stewardship Elder Assistance Each one of us knows someone in the parish who helps out with an elderly person getting to Mass or buying groceries. We see at Mass all the time people who appear to really struggle to get to Mass. There are people who do not like to drive in the dark and cannot come to evening events and Adoration. The tip of the ice berg is that there are many other requests for help that are not met because there is no formal way to make a request and no way to advertise these requests to the people who can help. Look around - watch for those in need. How might you help them? Maybe this exercise will lead to some ideas of how we can help and pool our resources from the whole parish to help out these people. Jesus called twelve very unlikely, ordinary men to travel with Him. Jesus invited them to make a commitment to God and to each other for those on the margins of society. That call, and the willingness to be shaped by it, is still changing the world. We must take this invitation seriously. We know that we are the hands and feet of Christ. This is the world we live in.
