Eternal Father, who at the baptism of Jesus revealed him to be your Son, anointing him with the Holy Spirit, keep your children, born of water and the Spirit, faithful to their calling; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. ~Book of Alternative Services Song of Praise: Song of Creation (Benedicite Omnia Opera) Jacques Berthier ( ) 3

Please be seated. THE PROCLAMATION OF THE WORD OF GOD We read and respond to God s message in Scripture Reader: First Reading: Isaiah 43:1-7 Reader: Deborah-Ann Desouza A reading form the book of Isaiah. But now thus says the Lord, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the 4

waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Saviour. I give Egypt as your ransom, Ethiopia and Seba in exchange for you. Because you are precious in my sight, and honoured, and I love you, I give people in return for you, nations in exchange for your life. Do not fear, for I am with you; I will bring your offspring from the east, and from the west I will gather you; I will say to the north, Give them up, and to the south, Do not withhold; bring my sons from far away and my daughters from the end of the earth everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made. Reader: The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Please keep a period of silence for reflection. Psalm 29: There Is One Lord Jacques Berthier ( ) Please remain seated. 5

Choir: Choir: Choir: Ascribe to the Lord, all you gods, Ascribe to the Lord glory and strength, Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness. There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism The voice of of the Lord is upon the the waters, The Lord is upon the mighty waters. The voice of the Lord is a powerful voice; The voice of the Lord is a voice of splendour. There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism The voice of the Lord breaks the cedar trees; The Lord breaks the cedars of Lebanon; The voice of the Lord splits the flames of fire; The voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness. There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism Reader: A reading from the book of Acts. Second Reading: Acts 8:14-17 Reader: Peace Rukundo Now when the apostles at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them. The two went down and prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit (for as yet the Spirit had not come upon any of them; 6

they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus). Then Peter and John laid their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit. Reader: The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Gradual Hymn 45: Down Galilee s Slow Roadways Tune: Wie Lieblich Ist Der Maien Gospel Acclamation: Sing Alleluia (Tuya es, Dios, la Gloria) ~Traditional Mexican Holy Gospel: Luke 3:15-17, Gospeller: The Reverend Canon Timothy D. Foley Gospeller: The Lord be with you. And also with you. Gospeller: The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Luke. People (sing): Glory to Jesus, O Lord Jesus Christ. Glory to Jesus, O Lord Jesus Christ. 7

Gospeller: As the people were filled with expectation, and all were questioning in their hearts concerning John, whether he might be the Messiah, John answered all of them by saying, I baptize you with water; but one who is more powerful than I is coming; I am not worthy to untie the thong of his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. His winnowing fork is in his hand, to clear his threshing floor and to gather the wheat into his granary; but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire. Now when all the people were baptized, and when Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, the heaven was opened, and the Holy Spirit descended upon him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven, You are my Son, the Beloved; with you I am well pleased. Gospeller: The Gospel of Christ. People (sing): Praise be to Jesus, O Lord Jesus Christ. Praise be to Jesus, O Lord Jesus Christ. Sermon: The Right Reverend Jenny Andison Please keep a period of silence for reflection. The Renewal of Baptismal Vows We promise to follow Christ Presentation and Examination: Presenter: Candidate: We present Raymond Joseph Paul who desires to reaffirm his baptismal vows and to be received into this Communion. Do you reaffirm your renunciation of evil? I do. 8

Candidate: Candidate: Do you renew your commitment to Jesus Christ? I do. Do you put your whole trust in his grace and love? I do, and with God s grace I will follow him as my Saviour and Lord. Please stand as you are able. Presider: Will you who witness these vows do all in your power to support Raymond Joseph Paul and his life in Christ? We will. The Baptismal Covenant: Let us join with Raymond Joseph Paul as he commits himself again to Christ and renew our own baptismal covenant. Do you believe in God the Father? I believe in God, The Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. Do you believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God? I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. Do you believe in God the Holy Spirit? 9

I believe in God the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Will you continue in the apostles teaching and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in the prayers? I will, with God s help. Will you persevere in resisting evil and, whenever you fall into sin, repent and return to the Lord? I will, with God s help. Will you proclaim by word and example the good news of God in Christ? I will, with God s help. Will you seek and serve Christ in all persons, loving your neighbour as yourself? I will, with God s help. Will you strive for justice and peace among all people, and respect the dignity of every human being? I will, with God s help. Will you strive to safeguard the integrity of God's creation, and respect, sustain and renew the life of the Earth? I will, with God s help. Let us pray for those who are affirming their baptism, and for all the baptised everywhere, saying, Lord, hear our prayer. 10

Prayers: Prayers led by The Very Reverend James Merrett Leader: Leader: Leader: Leader: Leader: Leader: That they may be redeemed from all evil and rescued from the way of sin and death; in your mercy, Lord, Hear our Prayer. That the Holy Spirit may open their hearts to your grace and truth; in your mercy Lord, Hear our Prayer. That they may be kept in the faith and communion of your holy Church; in your mercy, Lord, Hear our Prayer. That they may be sent into the world in witness to your love; in your mercy, Lord, Hear our Prayer. That they may be brought to the fullness of your peace and glory; in your mercy, Lord, Hear our Prayer. Grant us all true repentance, forgive our sins, and strengthen us by your Holy Spirit to amend our lives according to your holy word. Lord, Hear our Prayer. Into your hands, O Lord, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in your mercy, through your son, Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen. Silence is kept. 11

Almighty God, we thank you that by the death and resurrection of your Son Jesus Christ you have overcome sin and brought us to yourself, and that by the sealing of your Holy Spirit you have bound us to your service. Renew in this your servant the covenant you made with him at his baptism. Send him forth in the power of that Spirit to perform the service you set before him; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. Raymond Joseph Paul, may the Holy Spirit, who has begun a good work in you, direct and uphold you in the service of Christ and his kingdom. Amen. Raymond Joseph Paul, we recognise you as a member of the one holy catholic and apostolic Church, and we receive you into the fellowship of this Communion. God, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, bless, preserve, and keep you. Amen. Almighty and everliving God, let your fatherly hand ever be over this your servant; let your Holy Spirit ever be with him; and so lead him in the knowledge and obedience of your word, that he may serve you in this life, and dwell with you in the life to come; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. 12

The Peace: We exchange a sign of that peace with one another. As you are comfortable, you may shake hands with those around you and say the words, Peace be with you. You may also simply bow your head as you say the words. Presider: Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you are called to peace. The peace of the Lord be always with you. And also with you! THE CELEBRATION OF THE EUCHARIST We share God s banquet of love for this community of faith Offertory Hymn 465: Here in This Place New Light Is Streaming Tune: Gather Us In As we sing this hymn, we will pass the plate to collect the offerings of the people. If you are visiting us please do not feel you need to put anything in the plate; you are our guest. Presider: Prayer over the Gifts: Please remain standing. God of life and freedom, we celebrate the revelation of Jesus as the Christ who makes all creation new. Accept all we offer you this day and make us new in him, who is Lord for ever and ever. Amen. ~Book of Alternative Services 13

The Great Thanksgiving: Presider: Father, we give you thanks and praise through your beloved Son Jesus Christ, your living Word, through whom you have created all things; who was sent by you in your great goodness to be our Saviour. By the power of the Holy Spirit he took flesh; as your Son, born of the blessed Virgin, he lived on earth and went about among us; he opened wide his arms for us on the cross; he put an end to death by dying for us; and revealed the resurrection by rising to new life; so he fulfilled your will and won for you a holy people. Therefore with angels and archangels, and with all the company of heaven, we proclaim your great and glorious name, for ever praising you and saying: 14

Sanctus: David Haas (b.1957) Presider: Lord, you are holy indeed, the source of all holiness; grant that by the power of your Holy Spirit, and according to your holy will, these gifts of bread and wine may be to us the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ; who, in the same night that he was betrayed, took bread and gave you thanks; he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of me. In the same way, after supper he took the cup and gave you thanks; he gave it to them, saying: Drink this, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. 15

Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me. People (sung): Glory be to you! Glory now and evermore. Glory be to you! Now and evermore. Amen Presider: And so, Father, calling to mind his death on the cross, his perfect sacrifice made once for the sins of the whole world; rejoicing in his mighty resurrection and glorious ascension, and looking for his coming in glory, we celebrate this memorial of our redemption. As we offer you this our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving, we bring before you this bread and this cup and we thank you for counting us worthy to stand in your presence and serve you. Send the Holy Spirit on your people and gather into one in your kingdom all who share this one bread and one cup, so that we, in the company of all the saints, may praise and glorify you for ever, through Jesus Christ our Lord; by whom, and with whom, and in whom, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honour and glory be yours, almighty Father, for ever and ever. People (sung): Glory be to you! Glory now and evermore. Glory be to you! Now and evermore. Amen 16

Presider: As our Saviour taught us let us pray. The Lord s Prayer: Mass for the King of Glory Betty Pulkingham (b.1928) 17

Presider: Breaking of Bread: We break the bread of life, and that life is the Light of the world. God here among us, light in the midst of us, Bring us to light and life. Presider: The gifts of God for the people of God. Thanks be to God. Song for the Breaking of Bread: O Lamb of God (Carmina Burana) Carl Orff ( ) 18 Please be seated. Word equal to the Most High, our only hope, Eternal Day of the earth and of the heavens, We break the silence of the peaceful night. Divine Saviour, cast your glance on us. Pour on us the fire of your powerful grace, That all hell may flee at the sound of your voice; Banish the slumber of a weary soul, That brings forgetfulness of your laws! O Christ, look with favour upon your faithful people Now gathered here to praise you; Receive their hymns offered to your immortal glory; May they go forth filled with your gifts. ~Jean Racine ( ) Please stand as you are able. 20

Presider: Presider: Presider: Prayer after Communion: Gracious God, lover of all, by this sacrament you make us one family in Christ your Son, one in the sharing of his body and blood, one in the communion of his Spirit. Help us to grow in love for one another and come to the full maturity of the Body of Christ. We ask this in his name. Amen. ~Book of Alternative Services Doxology: Glory to God Whose power, working in us, can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine. Glory to God from generation to generation, in the Church and in Christ Jesus, forever and ever. Amen. Epiphany Blessing: May Almighty God, who led the Magi by the shining of a star to find the Christ - the Light from Light, lead you also in your pilgrimage to find the Lord. And the blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, be upon you and remain with you for ever. Amen. Hymn: Songs of Thankfulness and Praise Tune: Aberystwyth #250 Songs of thankfulness and praise, Jesus, Lord, to thee we raise, manifested by the star to the sages from afar; branch of royal David's stem in thy birth at Bethlehem; 21

anthems be to thee addressed, God in us made manifest. Manifest at Jordan's stream, Prophet, Priest and King supreme; and at Cana, wedding guest, in thy Godhead manifest; manifest in power divine, changing water into wine; anthems be to thee addressed, God in us made manifest. Manifest in making whole palsied limbs and fainting soul; manifest in valiant fight, quelling all the devil's might; manifest in gracious will, ever bringing good from ill; anthems be to thee addressed, God in us made manifest. Grant us grace to see thee, Lord, mirrored in thy holy Word; may we imitate thee now, and be pure, as pure art thou; that we like to thee may be at thy great Epiphany; and may praise thee, ever blest, God in us made manifest. Leader: Dismissal: Rejoice in Lord always. Go forth and serve. 22
