Jorge Farias Matices No 6:00 PM Mass January 6, Epiphany Ministry Appreciation Reception after the 12:30 PM Mass on January 6, 2019 ALIENATED CATHOLICS ANONYMOUS (ACA) AFTER-CHRISTMAS SERIES: The six evenings series with emphasis on God s mercy and reconciliation will commence in the Parish Activity Center on Monday, January 7th at 7pm then continue for five consecutive Monday evenings. The series offers an ideal process for reintroducing inactive Catholics to the active practice of their faith. Personal invitations from family members or friends of those who are inactive to participate in the series from past experience makes a very significant and positive impact. Family members and friends in those instances could become sponsors in this active outreach ACA and become servant leaders with and in God s grace. Brochures for this ACA outreach are available in the vestibule of the church. In Appreciation & Gratitude For Gifts in Service Epiphany Reception - January 6, 2019 This is a personal invitation to our parishioners active in ministry to come to the 12:30pm Mass on January 6th and the Epiphany reception afterwards. Through the generosity of some sponsorships, our parish is hosting this annual event on behalf of our parish/school staff and our school faculty for all active school parents and parishioners who are involved in our many ministries. Did you know that couples can designate $2,177 of their state income tax or $1,089 for individual filers to help students at Our Mother of Sorrows School? All registered parishioners received a mailing from the parish this week that fully explains how parishioners can designate a portion of their state income tax between now and December 31st to benefit Our Mother of Sorrows School. We have caught up to our target budget weekly average of $19,040 and exceeded it by 1.3%. In addition, we are about 3% ahead of where we were last year at this time for the Yes, Lord campaign pledges. We are very grateful to God and all of our faithful parishioners who have made pledges and your faithfulness in fulfilling them. This is what makes possible the active ministries here at OMOS. -Steve Contreras, Business Manager Scripture Reflection Fourth Sunday of Advent December 23, 2018 Micah 5:1-4a, Hebrews 10:5-10, Luke 1:39-45 Bethlehem is foretold to be the birthplace of the coming ruler of Israel. A shepherd from the same place as David whose reign will reach the ends of the earth. Mary has just been told that she is going to the be the mother of God and that her elderly cousin is pregnant. She rushes to visit Elizabeth in the hill country of Judea. At hearing Mary s voice, the baby leaps in Elizabeth s womb and she is filled with the Holy Spirit. She cries out, what we know as part of the of the rosary, blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. Elizabeth is overwhelmed that the Mary, the mother of our Lord, has come to visit her. Here we are, two days before Christmas. Are we thinking about Bethlehem or Mary? Are we overwhelmed by shopping, cooking, and the trappings of the holiday? Or are we like Elizabeth? Overwhelmed by what Mary did? Saying yes to the Lord and believing what He said would be fulfilled? Try to take some time before the holy day and think about the enormity of what Mary said yes to. Maybe your shopping, cooking and the rest won t seem as considerable. DID YOU KNOW... Did you know? "Christmas" is a shortened form of "Christ's mass." This part time position will be for the second shift evening crew primarily responsible for cleaning and maintaining the school buildings, Kino office, and other buildings on campus as required. The successful candidate must be a self-starter, well organized, able to work individually as well as with a team, and have a thorough knowledge of the use of the chemicals, tools, and equipment associated with custodial work and general maintenance. A high school diploma or equivalent education plus one year s experience in a commercial or private maintenance, custodial, or similar position is required. Bi-lingual English/Spanish preferred. The carpool will depart from the parish at 8:00am on Saturday, January 12th and return by 8:00pm.

There is no cost, but a freewill offering to offset the cost of the Mexican bus and to assist the orphanage will be collected.

This one day pilgrimage to the orphanage and barrio is a prayerful, hands-on experience reaching out to the vulnerable and least among us. The carpool will depart from the parish at 8:00am on Saturday, January 12th and return by 8:00pm. Cars will be parked on the Douglas side of the border and the pilgrim group will walk across the border and board a bus for the 5-minute ride to the pilgrim site in Agua Prieta. There is no cost, but a freewill offering to offset the cost of the Mexican bus and to assist the orphanage will be collected. Pilgrims are responsible for paying for their own lunch at a Mexican restaurant. A valid passport is required.
