Loving God! Loving People! Loving Life! Message Notes Retrain Your Brain Part Three Life Church Smyrna Sunday, March 18, :30am Pastor Shell Osbon Matthew 6: No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money. 25 Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? 28 So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; 29 and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31 Therefore do not worry, saying, What will we eat? or What will we drink? or What will we wear? 32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. (NKJV) 1. This Is Not A Time To Worry t Worry is mental distress or agitation resulting from concern for something that may or may not happen. a) Worry Doesn t Help _Anybody_ Matthew 6:25 Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? (NKJV) Psalm 37:1 Do not fret... (NKJV) Proverbs 12:25 Worry weighs a person down... This Is A Time To Trust Trust is assured reliance on the character, ability, strength or truth of someone. Psalm 118:8 It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man. (NKJV) Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart... (NKJV) a) God Knows Your _Needs_ Matthew 6:32 Your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 2 part three Matthew 6: No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. (NKJV) 2

1. This Is Not A Time To Worry Worry is mental distress or agitation resulting from concern for something that may or may not happen. Earl Nightingale: Worry is divided into four categories: 40% are things that will never happen 30% are things that happened in the past 12% are needless worries about health 10% are petty worries 92% are pure fog with no substance 8% are legitimate matters of concern. 4
Earl Nightingale: Worry is like a dense fog that can cloud our vision, knock our perspective out of kilter and slow us down. A fog covering several city blocks is only a few ounces of water - less than it would take to fill a drinking glass. The rest is just air and most of our worries are just air, as well. E. Joseph Cossman: If you want to test your memory try to remember what you were worrying about one year ago today. 5
a) Worry Doesn t Help Anybody Matthew 6:25 Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? (NKJV) Psalm 37:1 Do not fret... (NKJV) Proverbs 12:25 Worry weighs a person down... (NLT) John Lubbock: A day of worry is more exhausting than a week of work. 6
b) Worry Doesn t Change Anything Matthew 6:25 Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? (NKJV) Mickey Rivers: Ain t no sense worrying about things you got control over, cause if you got control over them, ain t no sense worrying. And there ain t no sense worrying about things you got no control over, cause if you got no control over them, ain t no sense worrying about them. 7
Matthew 6:34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. (NKJV) Dave Anderson: Yesterday s peacock is tomorrow s feather duster! 8
2. This Is A Time To Trust Trust is assured reliance on the character, ability, strength or truth of someone. Psalm 118:8 It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man. (NKJV) Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart... (NKJV) 9
a) God Knows Your Needs Matthew 6:32 Your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. (NKJV) Matthew 6:8 Your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask. (NKJV) b) God Will Meet Your Needs Matthew 6:33 Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added to you. (NKJV) Philippians 4:19 But my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. (NKJV) 10
