OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE CHURCH A Special Presentation For Bob and Patty Davis
-V- CHURCH OF OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE Telephone ALDEN LANE WINDSOR CALIFORNIA July 6, 1998 Mr & Mrs Bob Davis 2175 Warwick Dr Santa Rosa, CA Dear Patty and Bob, As our parish moves towards the year 2000, Our Lady of Guadalupe Church must confront the increasing demands placed on its facilities by the dramatic growth we have experienced in recent years Simply stated, we have an active parish with many ministries and programs, but very limited space We urgently need more classrooms, meeting rooms, office space, and a common room for social gatherings People in today's impersonal world look to their church to help them come together, not only for communal prayer, but also for meals and celebrations A large multi-use facility will allow us to implement many programs and activities designed to carry out Christ's message of loving self and neighbors, once the new Parish Center is constructed and operational To address this need we have launched the capital campaign to raise the funds needed to build a new parish center The total cost is $23 million, of which $11 million has already been raised We are now seeking to raise as much as possible of the remaining $12 million needed to complete the new Parish Center Every dollar we raise will serve to lower any parish debt incurred so that income generated from the facility can be used for ministry In order to raise significant dollars, we need leadership giving Leadership gifts are critical to the success of any campaign That is why we are asking you to consider a gift of $5,000 per year for the next five years, for a total commitment of $25,000 A pledge at this level will not only make a direct impact on the campaign, but will indirectly raise the levels of commitment from others in the weeks ahead We are truly blessed here at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church The parish community, established in 1968, is bonded by a strong faith My prayer is that through our continued working together as faithful stewards of time, talent and treasure, we can accomplish what must be done for this parish The time is now, and we must do it together I thank you in advance for your support, not only of this project, but of the future life and ministry of our parish as well Sincerely yours in Christ, fl~cr~la~_) :5 Fr Anie'lito Peries, CSsR Pastor
OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE CHURCH Windsor, California Our Mission WE, THE CATHOLIC COMMUNITY OF OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE, GUIDED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT AND OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE'S MESSAGE, ACKNOWLEDGE DIVERSITY AS GOD'S PRECIOUS GIFT WE COMMIT OURSELVES TO PROCLAIM THE GOSPEL, TO CELEBRATE OUR SPIRITUAL AND CULTURAL TRADITIONS, TO TAKE THE NEEDS AND CONCERNS OF EVERYONE TO HEART, AND TO BUILD UNITY AMONG ALL PEOPLE
THE NEED Our parish community, which began as a mission in 1968, saw the population of Windsor numbering well under 5,000 The 1990 census lists 6,489 in our community It is projected that Windsor in 2002 will have 25,112 people in residence This will constitute 10,227 households Within a five mile radius of Windsor the population will swell to 33,064 with households spiraling to 13,490 We are a growing, changing community The average age in our town is 35 years Many who live here are just getting their families started Additionally this is an attractive area for retirees We are not only a growing community, but also a people living longer in active years This translates to more requests for services over a longer horizon of time Not only are demands made upon civic resources, but religious and educational ones, as well We, of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church are a loving, vibrant community, and enthusiastically welcome all those who seek us out to actively participate in our worship and social gatherings The new, Our Lady of Guadalupe Church - Mary Agatha Furth Center, will be key to keeping our community alive and focused on the message of Jesus Christ to love one another Our pledge as a parish is to welcome all who come to us seeking spiritual renewal and/or social support The new 15,165 square foot building, as a concept, is integral to our existing church community It is not an add-on It is the next step in our evolution and as such critical to our identity as Catholic Christians The new Center has been designed to serve the two dynamics that drive our spiritual life--service to others and deepening personal spiritual growth The Center will house a kitchen to match any commercial one in the area (1,525 sq ft), six meeting rooms of approximately 480 square feet each that will serve a variety of needs from classroom use to Bible Study, and a common room (8,000 sq ft) with a capacity for seating 450 people The ambiance surrounding the new Center is enhanced by a beautiful courtyard that has a meditation garden well suited for quiet reflection (2,156 sqft) and a larger festival area designed for overflow-outdoor dining, and social gatherings, so characteristic of a diverse people that relishes celebrating life The need is great and urgent Coming together as a whole community to bring the Center into being is our first priority The Center will provide a dramatic capability and impetus to our mission, " to build unity among all people" In so doing it will reinforce our sense of purpose and place We are people who break bread with one another and neighbors
The architecture, borrowed heavily from the California Mission style so familiar to us all, will be its own gift to the community of Windsor Its beauty alone will attract many visitors Functionally, it will have the largest capacity for gathering in Windsor We will reach out to the larger community in as many ways as our mission permits, especially in times of crisis Should our town ever be visited by a disaster requiring a headquarters for staging an emergency response, we will be there How more convincingly could we demonstrate Christ's love than to be able to provide shelter for His brothers and sisters in time of critical need Our parish needs to raise as much of$12 million as it can to defray the costs of building the new Parish Center The overall cost of the new building, including interior furnishings and external landscaping, is estimated to be $23 million The new Center, when completed and operational will unite the Parish, both spiritually and functionally As it is now, groups are meeting in every conceivable physical area, including the priests' rectory and the St Vincent De Paul storage building at the far end of the parking lot This causes stressful conditions to the point that many people who would like to come and participate choose not to because of the lack of accommodations The oneness of the design will link us physically by porticos and a promenade stretching from the back parking lot to the front of the Church The design bespeaks the unity we seek The time is now to build the new Center We have a beautiful church building that provides a wonderful environment, which allows us to express the joy of Christ in worship and the wonders of God's wisdom in teaching The new Center will permit the loving service so many members are already engaged in to flow unimpeded by physical constraints, which now restrict our ministries More of our community will be involved because the Center, by its design, will be an environment that removes obstacles and invites greater participation from everyone The campaign to build our new Center can be won, if we come together, now, in a prayerful, committed effort as one people-one church Cost Estimate A To construct the building $1,900,000 April 1998 B To furnish the building 400,000 Total estimated costs $2,300,000
