4 Policies and Procedures How many times have you heard this? I would love to have some Bible School training but I can t afford it. I just can t pick up and move across the country at my age. I m too old. now. I ve been out of school way too long to be educated I would love to know the Bible better and be able to apply it to my life in every situation. I want to discover my purpose. The School of Ministry was established to meet the needs of the growing number of people just like you! Our Purpose The School of Ministry is committed to the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry. (Ephesians 4:12) Our focus is on the practical side of ministry and city transformation training. The instruction is not born out of dry academia but is the sum total of years of practical ministry experience in a broad range. We want to help produce true servants of God that are beneficial to their local church. Our Philosophy The School of Ministry is devoted to the belief that all Christians have a personal calling for ministry. We believe that the Bible teaches that all believers have unique gifts and share a common anointing that teaches us al things (See I Corinthians 12:7 and I John 2:20, 27). The Bible further teaches that the church needs to release ministry to these saints (Ephesians 4:12). Our guiding philosophy compels us to provide all the training and opportunity that we can to make this possible. 4 SCHOOL OF MINISTRY

5 Our Goals Students are taught that nothing supersedes their personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Intimacy, integrity, submission, obedience and character are stressed at every level. Students are taught the principles of servant leadership, that they are expected to be a blessing to their local church congregation and pastor. Students are taught that the ultimate goal of their lives and ministries is to be obedient to the Lord, not appear to popular as a Christian superstar. Our Accreditation Students completing both years of the Center for Strategic Ministry, fulfilling all of the requirements of the institution, will receive a Bachelors Degree in Christian Ministry from the Wagner Leadership Institute. Our Courses First Year Old Testament Survey, New Testament Survey, The Kingdom of God, Bible Cov enants, Tabernacles and temples, Biblical Theology, Spiritual Gifts and Church History. Second Year Ministerial Ethics, Leadership Goals, Pastoral Theology, Church Planting, Church Administration, Bible Study Methods, Teaching and Preaching and Biblical Counseling FIRST YEAR CLASSES ARE DESIGNED TO HELP BUILD A BIBLICAL FOUNDATION UPON WHICH AFFECTIVE MINISTRY CAN BE BUILT. 6 Our Course Descriptions First year classes are designed to help build a Biblical foundation upon which affective ministry can be built. 101 Old Testament Survey: This course examines the divisions of the Old Testament with an overview of its 39 books set within the culture and history of Israel as a people and nation. 102 New Testament Survey: This course examines the divisions of the New Testament books with an emphasis on the history of the church from its conception through the first century. 103 The Kingdom of God: This course examines the development of the Kingdom of God on Earth from the Garden of Eden to the millennial Reign of Christ. Its emphasis is on proper church order today personally and corporately. 104 Bible Covenants: This course studies the nine covenants that God has made for the benefit of mankind with respect to His divine Plan of redemption and how it relates to the believer s personal relationship with God. 105 Tabernacles and Temples: This course examines the tabernacles and temples of the Bible in order to see salvation s plan displayed in each person and how it relates to us today. 106 Biblical Theology: This course is designed to build a simple, yet secure foundation of Biblical doctrine under the student s life and ministry. No far out doctrines here, just the basics that most every major church and denomination ca agree on. 107 Spiritual Gifts: This course is one of the most practical courses offered. It gives the person confidence that God has, indeed, blessed them with gifts and abilities that can, and should, help the body of Christ. 108 Church History: This Course follows the development of the church from the close of the first Century until now, with an emphasis on how NOT to repeat the mistakes of our forefathers. 6 SCHOOL OF MINISTRY

7 Our Course Descriptions Second Year classes are designed to provide the practical skills needed to help create a true servant of God. 201 Ministerial Ethics: This course may challenge the student more than any other as we apply the moral standards of the Bible with today s crumbling ethics both within and outside the church. 202 Leadership Goals: Servant Leadership is what Christ Displayed with His disciples and is the basis of application for these basic leadership principles as they relate to the church. 203 Pastoral Theology: All believers are called to help pastor the flock inasmuch as God has called each of us to help nurture and raise up others around us according to the model of parenthood. 204 Church Planting: For many of our students they may either plant a church or help plant a church. This course is a basic overview of how to get the job done, working as close to the Biblical model as possible. 205 Church Administration: This course helps lay out a strategy for administrating a church using the book of Acts as a model for what the contemporary church should look like. 206 Bible Study Methods: This course will teach the student several approaches to the Bible with an aim of helping them organize the material for teaching and/or preaching. 207 Teaching and Preaching: This course builds upon the previous class by helping the student sharpen their skills in communicating effectively the Word of God in a public forum. 208 Biblical Counseling: This class helps the student understand some foundational counseling skills that take into consideration the whole man, body soul and spirit, with respect to the regenerating power of the Holy Spirit. 8 Our School Year Our School year runs concurrently with the calendar year starting in January and ending the following November. Each school year consists of three Quarters and each Quarter contains three courses. Each course lasts four consecutive weeks which translates into a 12 week Quarter. FIRST YEAR CLASSES First Quarter Class 101 Class 102 Class 103 Second Quarter Class 104 Class 105 Open Forum Third Quarter Class 106 Class 107 Class 108 SECOND YEAR CLASSES First Quarter Class 201 Class 202 Class 203 Second Quarter Class 204 Class 205 Open Forum Third Quarter Class 206 Class 207 Class 208 The first and second Quarters run back to back from January until the end of June (see class schedule at the back of this booklet). After a summer break, the third Quarter completes the year. Our Classes are on Thursdays from 6:30PM to 9:00PM. 8 SCHOOL OF MINISTRY

9 Our Requirements Each student must return their application with a $25.00 non-refundable application fee at least 1 week before classes begin. All new students must attend orientation class a week before classes begin. (See class schedule at the back of this booklet) Each student will be given a study Bible at the beginning of their first year and a new notebook with every course. Study assignments will be weekly assigned from the Bible. It serves as the textbook for the entire 2 year process. Each Student is required to carry a 1.0 or above GPA. This grade is determined by the student s class attendance, reading assignments, book reports, class notes, homework assignments and study questions. Each student is required to have at least 100 hours of ministry time at their local church under pastoral supervision. We believe that training happens as much in the doing of the ministry as it does in the learning of the ministry. There are two book reports due each year. You can consult the end of this booklet for a list of these books. Our Graduation First year students are recognized in the graduation ceremonies in December with a certificate of completion. The second year students are given a diploma. These ceremonies will take place at a location to be announced. The date is recorded in the class schedule at the end of this manual. 10 Our Tuition Plan First Quarter: $ Second Quarter: $ Third Quarter: $ Students are required to make a payment of $ on the first day of classes for each of the three Quarters. The balance of the tuition is due at the end of the first course four weeks after the beginning of each new Quarter. An additional 10% late fee will be assessed to each student whose tuition billis over 4 weeks late. Students who owe back tuition for more than 8 weeks will be dismissed from the school until the tuition is paid for in full. Our Government The School of Ministry operates as a part of the educational extension of the SOMA Family of Ministries and is also a Wagner Leadership Institute. Our Grading Scale Each student s grade will be based upon the following criteria: (1) Class attendance: 25% (2) Reading Assignment: 25% (3) Notes (home and class) 25% (4) Study Questions: 25% Each student will also be required to read and write a book report on the two assigned books each year for graduation. 10 SCHOOL OF MINISTRY

11 Our Discounts and Incentives *Married students receive a 10% discount if enrolled at the same time. *Attending Students paying a one time payment for the entire year receive a $50.00 deduction off their total tuition cost. Any student who enrolls another enrolls another student will receive one course FREE as long as the new student completes at least one year. Soma Schools Summer Institute Each student will be required to attend one Soma Schools Summer Institute held each year in Chillicothe Ohio. Over the two years of schooling each student will attend a total of two conferences. This conference will help each student meet with several other students from all over the country. It will be an important time of networking relationships for future ministry; not to mention all of the outstanding instruction that they will receive during the weekend. All alumni from any WLI/SOMA affiliate schools are welcome to attend these summer conference sessions. Our Location The School of Ministry meets at 252 3rd Avenue, Gallipolis Ohio.
