3 All children are welcome here, but we know that a fussy baby is much louder to a parent s ears than to any of ours. If you have need: We have a nursery down the main stairs and to the left. It is staffed with volunteers, who will gladly care for any little ones who show up at the beginning of the service. If there are none, the volunteers will come up to the sanctuary, the nursery room will remain available. There is also a diaper change station in the Nursery and in both downstairs restrooms. We have a speaker in the narthex so that you DIY soothers can listen while you walk the little ones around. Worship Service Notes ANNOUNCEMENTS ADVENT LUNCHEONS As we prepare for Christ's Birth plan to join us during the Season of Advent on Sundays through December 23, for a soup and salad luncheon after the 10:15 service. There are sign-up sheets for the luncheons in the narthex. If you can bring a soup, salad, or bread to share, it would be greatly appreciated. If not, come anyway. We have a great time with good food and great fellowship. SESSION MEETING All are invited to join us for the next session meeting which is Wednesday, December 5 th. We are combining the November and December meetings. Please remember that all members are welcome and encouraged to join the elders for opening devotions at 6:30 in the sanctuary and the team meetings that follow. It is important to hear the opinions of many members as our leaders make their decisions. CHILDREN S CHRISTMAS PAGEANT The children's Christmas Pageant will take place next Sunday, Dec. 9 th, during the 10:15 service. Please plan to join us for this amazing event. FRIENDS WHO LUNCH Save the date for Friends Who Lunch on Tuesday, December 11th for a holiday luncheon at Carrabba s in Waldorf. We will meet there at 12:00 noon. After lunch everyone is invited to the Creveling s home for a Christmas cookie exchange, if you are not able to bring some cookies come anyway to continue the fellowship and enjoy the sweet treats. PLEDGE CARDS Thanks to all who have returned their 2019 Pledge Cards for the Operating Account. Pledging is important so the plans may be made for the upcoming year. If you have not submitted a card, please prayerfully consider your giving and return your card in the collection plate or give it to Anne Creveling, the treasurer. POINSETTIEAS FOR CHRISTMAS You will again have the opportunity to provide poinsettias for the last two Sundays of Advent and Christmas Eve. Plants will cost $11 per pot, and are available in red, white, pink and marble. Order envelopes will be available in the Sunday bulletins and may be placed in the collection plate. The last Sunday to order is Dec. 9. Plants may be taken after the Christmas Eve services. When ordering, be sure to indicate for whom you are providing the plant(s), whether in memory or thanksgiving and a phone number to reach you if needed. Contact Georgia Henry with questions or gghenry4@aol.com.
4 *Apostle s Creed (Ecumenical) I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God s only son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again, he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting. Amen. FIRST READING LUKE 21: There will be signs in the sun, the moon, and the stars, and on the earth distress among nations confused by the roaring of the sea and the waves. 26 People will faint from fear and foreboding of what is coming upon the world, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 27 Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. 28 Now when these things begin to take place, stand up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near. 29 Then he told them a parable: Look at the fig tree and all the trees; 30 as soon as they sprout leaves you can see for yourselves and know that summer is already near. 31 So also, when you see these things taking place, you know that the kingdom of God is near. 32 Truly I tell you, this generation will not pass away until all things have taken place. 33 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. 34 Be on guard so that your hearts are not weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and the worries of this life, and that day catch you unexpectedly, 35 like a trap. For it will come upon all who live on the face of the whole earth. 36 Be alert at all times, praying that you may have the strength to escape all these things that will take place, and to stand before the Son of Man. SECOND READING JEREMIAH 33: The days are surely coming, says the LORD, when I will fulfill the promise I made to the house of Israel and the house of Judah. 15 In those days and at that time I will cause a righteous Branch to spring up for David; and he shall execute justice and righteousness in the land. 16 In those days Judah will be saved and Jerusalem will live in safety. And this is the name by which it will be called: The LORD is our righteousness. 17 For thus says the LORD: David shall never lack a man to sit on the throne of the house of Israel, 18 and the levitical priests shall never lack a man in my presence to offer burnt offerings, to make grain offerings, and to make sacrifices for all time. 19 The word of the LORD came to Jeremiah: 20 Thus says the LORD: If any of you could break my covenant with the day and my covenant with the night, so that day and night would not come at their appointed time, 21 only then could my covenant with my servant David be broken, so that he would not have a son to reign on his throne, and my covenant with my ministers the Levites. 22 Just as the host of heaven cannot be numbered and the sands of the sea cannot be measured, so I will increase the offspring of my servant David, and the Levites who minister to me. Jesus Messiah He became sin who knew no sin That we might become His righteousness He humbled himself and carried the cross. Love so amazing. Love so amazing. Jesus Messiah Name above all names Blessed Redeemer Emmanuel The Rescue for sinners The Ransom from heaven Jesus Messiah Lord of all. His body the bread His blood the wine Broken and poured out all for love The whole earth trembled and the veil was torn. Love so amazing. Love so amazing.. All our hope is in You. All our hope is in You. All the glory toyou God the Light of the world. Jesus Messiah. Lord of all. The Lord of All. The Lord of All.

6 Prepare Him Room O behold, the mystery now unfolds. See the star shine on the virgin foretold. Angels sing and light up the sky. Hope rings out in a newborn's cry. Swing wide, you ancient gates for Christ is born today! CHORUS Prepare Him room, prepare Him room. Let the King of Glory enter in. God with us, the promise has come to be. This, the one the prophets were longing to see. In the darkness a blazing light, to the hungry the words of life. His kingdom now is near for those with ears to hear. CHORUS twice Oh, our hearts, as busy as Bethlehem. Hear Him knock, don't say there's no room in the inn. Through the cradle, cross, and grave See the love of God displayed. Now He's risen and He reigns! Praise the Name above all names! The Table I won t hunger anymore at His table. I won t hunger anymore at His table. Come all you weary, come and find. His yoke is easy, His burden light. He is able; He will restore at the table of the Lord. There is peace at the table of the Lord. There is peace at the table of the Lord. I won t worry anymore at His table. There is healing at the table of the Lord. There is healing at the table of the Lord. I won t suffer anymore at His table. Come all you weary, come and find. His yoke is easy, His burden light. He is able; He will restore at the table of the Lord. I know He has a place for me. Oh what joy will fill my heart. With the saints around the mercy seat of God. CHORUS twice
7 Be a GSPC Angel It is a tradition at Good Samaritan Presbyterian Church to show God's love to those less fortunate than we by helping them to have a merry Christmas. For several years we have supported teen-age children identified by LifeStyles and an orphanage in Romania, Children in the Son. God tells us to provide special care for orphans, widows and the elderly so we have decided to expand our Christmas support in a few different ways. We will continue to support the teen-age children known to Life Styles (we have identified teens in particular because LifeStyles never has adequate gifts for that age group), and we will continue to support Children in the Son with monetary donations. We will include monetary gifts of $35 to support the Community Care Center in Chimaltenango, Guatemala. The Community Care Center (CCC) serves the children and families who work at the dump (located in a Ravine) and other families living in extreme poverty in the city of Chimaltenango. These families work hour days hoping to collect enough garbage to earn roughly $3 to $4 US dollars a day. In 2012, Orphan Outreach visited the ravine and was moved by the families that work there, and committed to help with this community. Monetary gifts of $25 will help to support widows identified by local organizations who need assistance with food, housing and utilities. The Charles County Office on Aging has organized Christmas dinner baskets for seniors in need. This activity is a little more complicated but much more personal. We have included two $20 packages (although most packages will cost approximately $35.) This means you can either join with another church member to provide a package or choose two packages yourself. The Office on Aging will contact the church with information regarding the senior who will be the recipient of the basket. You will need to contact the recipient and find out if they have facilities to roast a turkey or a ham, or if they need a rotisserie item that is already prepared. In addition, you may want to check on diet restrictions. Additional canned items and goodies are added to the basket to complete a meal. Some of these recipients live alone, others may live with family members, but all have been vetted to make certain this is a family in need. Feel free to add items such as gloves, hats, toothpaste, paper towels, etc. The lead person will need to again contact the senior so that the basket can be delivered sometime between Saturday, December 15 th and Sunday, December 22 nd. (One note, the food does not need to be in a basket. ) Our Discipleship Team thanks you in advance for your generosity in providing for those in need. Bells on the wreaths identify specific gift items for the organizations mentioned above, and each gift is numbered You may choose your gift item by looking at the tags on the bells or by reviewing the gift log After choosing your gift, remove that bell from the wreath, and sign your name after that item in the log Use the tag on the bell to identify your gift by taping it to the gift Please do not wrap any gifts (but it would be appreciated if you would include gift wrap along with your gift) Bring all items to the church by December 16 th Green tags identify gifts for LifeStyles children Red tags identify gifts for the orphanage in Guatamala Gold tags identify monetary gifts to support widows White tags identify senior food baskets Blue tags identify monetary gifts to Children in the Son Gift Suggestions for Lifestyles Children Gift Suggestions for Male Teen Football or Basketball Sweatshirt, Hoodies, or Shirts Watches Nike or Under Armor brand socks, shirts, body wear, etc. Winter accessories (hats, gloves, boots, or coats) Duffel Bags Cologne/Body Wash DVDs (age appropriate) Gift Suggestions for Female Teen Jewelry Earrings, Bracelets Watches Manicure/Nail Polish kits Toiletries/make-up and accessories Perfume Purses Scarves Leggings, sports bras, sweatshirts Winter accessories (hats, gloves, boots, or coats) DVDs (age appropriate)
