4 Sisters of Christian Charity.Assumption College June 3, 2017 will mark the 200 th birthday of Blessed Pauline von Mallinckrodt (Mother Pauline), founder of the Sisters of Christian Charity. In an effort to make Mother Pauline better known, we present the fifth in our series of biographical sketches. In her young adult years, during the winter in Paderborn, Germany, Pauline became an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary which had been organized for the care of the sick poor in their homes. In the course of this work, she recognized that the children of the sick women were unable to be cared for by their mothers. At an Auxiliary meeting, Pauline proposed a revolutionary plan to open a nursery where children between the ages of two and six, whose parents were unemployed or poor laborers, could be fed and cared for during the day. Within a year s time, Pauline had one hundred children in her care. This venture was financed chiefly by Pauline s personal funds, her ingenuity, and the Providence of God. In 1842, still 7 years before the founding of the Sisters of Christian Charity, a bishop donated rooms to Pauline for her day nursery project. With the additional room, Pauline made a home for blind children, who were often abandoned as infants by parents who could not afford to take care of them. Through this humble beginning, Pauline was able to establish what has become a thriving ministry to the visually impaired. Threads of Love - Prayer Shawl Ministry We gather every 1 st and 3 rd Tuesday, 12:30pm or Evening - 6:30pm in the Narthex. New members are always welcome. We knit and crochet prayer shawls for those who are ill and for the bereaved. We also make Baptismal garments for the wee ones. If you would like to support Threads of Love, but cannot participate, please consider a donation to help us defray the cost of yarn. Visit Fatima and Spain with the Bishop Bishop Serratelli will be the Spiritual Director of a trip this summer to Fatima and Southern Spain. The Pilgrimage will celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Apparitions in Fatima and then continue on to Spain. The Pilgrimage will be from July 16 to 24. Life, Marriage and Religious Liberty. Join the Movement! St. Mary s Right to Life Ministry Beefsteak Dinner and Tricky Tray! The Joey Bella Memorial Fund, Inc. will host their annual fundraisers in early July. The Fund is in existence for 28 years and has collected over one million dollars in donations which have been used to assist more than fifty families with children who are affected with catastrophic illness in Denville and surrounding areas. The Tricky Tray is on Sunday, July 2 under the tent at Gardner Field, in Denville. Doors open at 6pm and calling begins at 8pm. $15 per person includes one sheet of tickets and light refreshments. No one admitted under 18 years--no infants permitted. Please contact us at for more information or to make a donation. Tickets sold at the door only. Band Beer Beefsteak will be held on Monday, July 3 under the tent at Gardner Field, in Denville. Tickets are $60 per person and include an all-you-can-eat Beefsteak Dinner served by Giresi Caterers and 16+ microbrew beers. Entertainment provided by The Nerds. Denville Social Services' 5th Annual Outdoor Movie Night will be held at Gardner Field on June 3rd (Rain Date June 10th.) Gates open at 7:30pm and the movie will start at 8:30pm. This year's film will be "Boss Baby." It's a film both parents and children can enjoy! Tickets will be $5 and can be purchased at The Denville Library or at the gate. Children three and under are free. This is a fundraiser for all the good works that the Denville Social Services does. LIFENET will presenting a training seminar for adult youth leaders, teachers, parents with a heart for youth called True Love Waits, a program to empower young people to save sex for marriage. Be trained to bring this 5- session program to your youth group or high school / junior high age students. Discover how to use this program, which includes, skits, videos and discussions, to help you communicate the message of sexual purity to youth in an interesting and positive way.
