(7 marks) - was a popular method of teaching during His time. - To provoke his listeners into critical thinking. - Explain unfamiliar messages for His listeners to understand. - In order to identify people seriously looking for the kingdom of God. - To challenge His listeners and stimulate their imaginations - Avoid direct conflict with Jewish leaders - To stimulate the interest of his listeners/ Avoid boredom - For listeners to remember the facts learnt. - It had been foretold by the prophets. (Mark only the first seven) 1 x 7 = 7 marks b) Give FIVE reasons why pple were amazed at the way Jesus taught - His teachings has authority. - He had command over unclean spirits. - He attracted a great crowd. - He had a lot of wisdom. - He taught forgiveness of sins which was believed to be God s work. - His teachings were spiced with miracles. (4 x 2)mark any 4 points well explained 2. a) Explain Jesus teachings on the kingdom of God. (10 mrks) - The kingdom of God is precious and therefore God is willing to seek for the lost as illustrated in the parable of the lost sheep and lost coin. - The kingdom of God starts from a humble beginning that gradually grows to all corners of the earth like the Mustard seed. - The kingdom of God requires nourishment in order to grow e.g. parable of the sower. - The kingdom of God is universal for all people i.e. the great feast - There is joy for those who enter the kingdom of God e.g. parable of the lost son. - Its not easy to enter the kingdom of God. It requires faith e.g. parable of the narrow door. 1

2 - The kingdom of God is for those who repent e.g. parable of the lost son. - God looks for the lost individuals and brings them back and restores them to the kingdom e.g. parable of the lost sheep. (2 x 5) (Any five points each point 2 marks b) Mention FIVE reasons why Jesus condemned those requesting for a sign of God s kingdom. - They lacked faith in Jesus the son of God/Messiah. - People of Nineveh believed Jonah s message which had no signs and repented. - The queen of Sheba believed the wisdom of Solomon was from God without demanding miracles. - Jesus was greater than Jonah and Solomon yet they rejected His message. - They had hardness of heart/lacked repentance. - They did not recognise/accept the kingdom of God in their midst - They had lost faith even as Jesus had performed miracles among them/he called them an evil generation. (Mark only the first five) 1 X 5 = 5 marks 3. a) Outline Jesus teachings in the beatitudes (7 marks) - The humble shall inherit the earth. - The pure in heart will see God. - Those who show mercy shall obtain mercy. - The peacemakers shall be called sons of God. - Those persecuted for the sake of the gospel shall be rewarded in heaven/eternal life. - The poor in spirit shall inherit the kingdom of God. - Those who hunger and thirst shall be satisfied.. (7 marks) - Should love their enemies - Should have absolute faith or trust in God/not focus on worldly pleasure - Should show perseverance in face of persecution. - Should exercise self-critism before judging others so as not to be hypocritical. - Should be obedient to Jesus teachings. - Should show mercy or compassion to others. - Should forgive those who wrong them and pray for those who mistreat them. 2

3 c) Give SIX reasons why Christians must accept suffering. (6 marks) - They are trained to endure/promotes endurance. - God manifest Himself through suffering - It is a sign of commitment to Christ. - They emulate Jesus example. - Suffering leads to salvation. - It enables one to carry the cross of Jesus. - It is inheritable in a Christian life. (mark only the first six) 6 x 1 = 6 marks 4. a) State SEVEN teachings of Jesus on the role of the Holy Spirit. (7 marks) - He would act as a counsellor - He would convict the world of sins/god s Judgement. - Remind the disciples of the teachings of Jesus. - Would guide Christians into the trust of Jesus teaching about God the Father. - Would dwell in the life of Christians i.e. be with them. - Would reveal future happenings. - Would give glory to Jesus and God the Father. - Would enable Christians to obey God s law - Help Christians to bear fruits for God s glory. - Would guide the disciples in truth - Would give disciples strength to overcome temptations. b) Outline the solutions given by Paul on the problem of the food offered to idols. (6 mrks) - Eating/Not eating food offered to idols does not make us better before God. - Idols are not alive and have no effect on food. - Christians must show concern to the weaker ones in faith. - Christians should not act in a way that would mislead others. - Christians should be responsible for the behaviour of the weaker brothers i.e. to correct and rebuke them while in the wrong. - Christians should sacrifice their freedom for the sake of the others. - Sinning against your brother and wounding their conscience when it is weak is sinning against Christ. (7 marks) - Denominational differences where some churches feel superior and despise other - Leadership wrangles in many churches which results in disunity. - Dilemma due to variety of doctrines found in the churches. - Differences in the practice of Baptism - Issue of leadership role of women in the churches. - Different beliefs about resurrection. - Different ways of celebrating Lord s supper.. - Freedom of worship which has widened rifts in the churches 3

4 - Discrimination based on race, tribe and wealth. - Misuse of churches funds - Greed for material gains - Failure of leaders to be good role models. - Political interferences and threats. - Pride of some Christians. - Failure to satisfy spiritual needs of faithful by the churches. 5. a) Identify FIVE factors leading to misuse of leisure in the society today. - Lack of proper education/awareness/ignorance on the use of leisure. - Some leisure activities are expensive to many people. - Influence of mass media. - Misunderstandings in the family - Bad company/peer influence - Failure to balance between active and passive leisure. - Poverty - Social oppression or injustice. - Lack of variety of leisure activities or facilities. - Feeling of insecurity/oppression. - Poor planning or over indulgence. b) show how Jesus spent His leisure time. - He observed Sabbath rest. - After hard work of preaching He went for prayers. - He attended celebrations e.g. wedding at Cana of Galilee. - He socialised e.g. at the house of Simon the Pharisee, Zachaeus, Levi. - He fellowshipped with friends e.g. Martha, Mary Lazaraus. - He had time alone to meditate. (10 marks) - Abusing drugs causes danger to ones health. - It has negative effects on the mental or physical aspect of man. - It is a sign of disrespect to ones human dignity. - It leads to defiling the human body which is the temple of Holy Spirit. - Leads to addiction/enslaving a person. - Leads to crimes e.g. killing - Leads to sexual immorality - Leads to laziness which is condemned in the Bible. - Leads to misuse of family resources. - Results to death. Any five and explanation for each(2 X 5 = 10 marks) 6. a) Outline FIVE ways in which science and technology has helped to promote unity of mankind - Use of modern means of transport e.g. aeroplanes to travel to any part of the world. - Through the mass media pple are able to learn different cultural heritage - Invention of visual/audio machines which has helped in preaching the gospel. - Thro modern means of communication e.g. telephone, fax etc. There is easy exchange of knowledge and ideas. 4

5 - Development of industries has lead to provision of employment to all races. - It has facilitated games and sports which encourage interaction among pple. b) Explain FIVE ways in which science and technology degrades human dignity. (10 marks) - Scientific inventions has lead to pollution which has affected human health. - Science & technology has lead to unemployment due to automation i.e. use of computer/robot to replace human labour. - Scientific theory creation challenges Christian view that human beings were created by God. - It has created social classes i.e rich and poor. - It has lead to immorality thro internet, porno. Magazines TV etc. - Has endangered pples lives e.g. through accidents. - Pple use scientific & technological advances to humiliate others. - Has been used to demean God s creative ability e.g. cloning. Mark only the first five plus explanation (2 x 5 = 10 marks) c) Give FIVE ways in which Christians can curb desertification. - Avoid careless cutting of trees - Replace the cut trees/plant trees - Get other sources of fuel eg Biogas - Educating pple on proper farming methods - Condemning careless exploitation of forests/envt. - Educating pple on proper use of land e.g. use of natural manure instead of chemicals. 5
