All are asked to consider tithing and return 10% of our income to the Lord (5% to the parish, 5% to your favorite charity). The spiritual practice of tithing disposes us to make God first in every area of our lives! The aim is to secure not the tithe, but the tither, not the gift, but the giver for God! Currently, we have 1824 households How often do we put all our time and energy into building a kingdom here on earth, forgetting that life here is short? The real kingdom is in the next life. Yet, how much time and energy do we invest in working for that eternal kingdom? RCIA - RITE OF WELCOME The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) calls for parish communities to celebrate a Rite of Welcome on the First Sunday of Advent as an official reception of people who have expressed an interest in becoming members of the Catholic Church. Accordingly, next weekend, at the 11:30 a.m. Mass, candidates, who are to be received into full communion with the Catholic Church, will participate in this ceremony. Please keep these brothers and sisters in your prayers that the Holy Spirit will continue to assist them on their journey of discernment. CHRISTMAS FLOWERS You are invited to make a donation toward Christmas flowers to beautify our church and crèche. Children in grades K-5 would be invited after the opening prayers to the Chapel to hear the readings and a message that is geared towards their level of understanding. I am hoping to have volunteers help with this on a rotating basis. Each week we will need a leader and a few volunteers to help out. The leader will be responsible for reading the readings and proclaiming the message of the week. We will have materials available to guide you through this. Also, they will lead the children through the Creed. The children and volunteers will return to mass during the offertory. All volunteers need to be cleared through the Diocesan Youth Protection Program (which Dr. Spahr is available to assist you with this). The Good Shepherd Knights of Columbus Council will be selling religious Christmas cards in the Parish Hall after the Masses. We will sell cards on the weekend of Dec 1/2 if there are cards remaining. We will not sell cards after the 5:00 p.m. Mass on Sundays nor the weekend of Thanksgiving. WEEKEND LECTORS: The new 2019 Lectors books are now available in the sacristy. The WWII Chaplains Memorial Foundation, through our research, brought the possibility of sainthood for Chaplain Maternowski to the attention of the Franciscans who wholeheartedly support this effort. They are continuing their research with the hope of having him awarded the Medal of Honor. Buy a cookie tray from The Cookie Sale to combat World Hunger for only $15. The cookie trays will be sold on the weekend of December 8. The cookie Sale to Combat World Hunger is in its 21st. year and has fed over 14 million people. The cookies taste great, come with Hershey s chocolates and are beautifully wrapped. All expenses that go into making the trays are sponsored so every penny you spend goes to feed starving kids. Cross Catholic Outreach buys vitamin fortified rice called Vitafood for a subsidized price of 4 cents per serving so your $15 donation feeds 375 people. These cookie trays make wonderful gifts for business associates too. Because the cookies are great tasting and the proceeds do so much good, over 57 tons of trays of cookies have been sold so far. Please buy a tray or two or ten.

5 8th Grade Visit Day to Trinity High School: Public school 8th grade students enrolled in our parish CCD/PREP/EDGE are invited to spend a day at Trinity High School on Wednesday, November 28 from 8:00 am until 2:30 pm. Holy Name of Jesus Parish is seeking to employ a Parish Business Manager. This person will be responsible for assisting the Pastor in the overall administration of the Parish with respect to all matters pertaining to personnel, finance, buildings and grounds, parish committees and organizations, and scheduling. A Bachelor s degree in accounting or business administration or its equivalent is required as well as a minimum of three years of experience in business administration and personnel supervision. Experience with parish operations is preferred. The individual must have a working knowledge of Church teaching and an understanding of the mission/vision/philosophy of a Roman Catholic parish. Prison Ministry: Volunteers are needed for communion services and catechesis at Dauphin County Prison particularly on Saturday afternoons, but also on other days. Extraordinary Ministers and catechists are needed, as well as volunteers who can pray the rosary and assist with services or just visit with inmates at Chapel Talks.
