1 OUR MISSION STATEMENT: Growing In Faith Together (G.I.F.T.) Dear Parishioners, Our deepest sympathy to the families of Whitey Mayer and Eddie Bauer. May their souls, and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace. This weekend, we celebrate Trinity Sunday. We recall that the mystery of God is beyond our full comprehension, but that He reveals Himself to us in Jesus Christ. This feast comes as the first Sunday following the Easter season for good reason - We just recalled that Jesus reveals the love of the Father to us in freeing us from sin and death, and with Pentecost, the Father and the Son send the Holy Spirit to dwell in us and make us who we are to be. So now, we remember who God is in Himself - three Persons, eternally united in love, one Being giving life and existence to all things. Eternally united but not confused, each Person acts with the others in every act of salvation. It is a mystery, as already stated, that we cannot fully understand - to do so, we would have to have the mind of God. St. Augustine, one of the greatest Christian thinkers, ponder the Trinity and always fell short. One day, he witnessed a boy at the seashore. The boy had a hole in the sand, and was running back and forth between the sea and the hole, pouring water into the hole. St. Augustine asked him what he was doing, and the boy responded that he was trying to put the sea in that hole. St. Augustine quipped to that it was impossible. The boy responded it was no more impossible that him understanding the Trinity. So what we do not fully understand in mystery, we worship. Every Eucharistic encounter is an encounter with God s mercy. God is merciful so much that Jesus would become food and drink for us, and remain with us. In the Eucharist, the bread and wine become His Body and Blood, and that presence endures. Every fragment, even the smallest crumb, is His body. Every drop is His Blood. This means that when we knell before the monstrance or tabernacle, we are in the presence of the living face of Mercy - Jesus Christ. This means, too, we ought to show every respect to the Eucharistic Presence by how we receive Him, making sure that we have reverently consumed every fragment. Should an accident happen, we would treat it with all respect - meaning that we would pick up the fragment or soak up the droplets, and then cleanse the area and the cloths reverently (thanks to the sacristans and Audrey for doing this so well). Church of St. Peter Sunday Mass: Mondays 7 pm Tuesday - 9 am The Ten Commandments - #12 St. Peter Public Access TV Channel 7 Fr. Benedict Groeschel explores the Ten Commandments in this twelve-part series. Founder of the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal in the South Bronx, Fr. Groeschel brings his knowledge of Scripture and pastoral experience to the table in each half-hour episode. He does not seek to provide an exhaustive explanation of each of the Commandments, but instead he seeks to give a small sampling of what each of the Commandments mean and how they can impact our lives in the twenty-first century. Episode 1 introduces the series, episodes 2 through 11 examine each Commandment individually, and episode 12 summarizes what has been learned. Wednesday, May 9 pm Thursday, May 10 am SAVE THE DATE Parish Festival is planned for September 24-25, We will be scheduling a meeting the first part of June to begin planning for our September festival. An investment with Eternal rewards This summer we will be sending 5 teens from our parish to attend Franciscan LEAD prior to the Steubenville North Conference. LEAD is a five-day, Christ-centered, sacrament-soaked, prayer-fueled immersion in Catholic teachings on leadership, evangelization, and discipleship. Participants are given practical tools for developing their faith and evangelizing their friends. Many of our teens that have attended this training have come home to be EDGE core members, Eucharistic ministers, daily mass attendees and others have even become full-time missionaries! I am looking for a few generous people, with a heart for our youth, that would be willing to invest in and financially support this wonderful group of teens. 4 Did you know? Every Friday night, Catholic men are meeting for the Midnight Watch to pray for their families. Join us this Friday from midnight to 1 am. (Technically it is Saturday morning.) The presentations are free and open to the public. Certificates of attendance are available for clock hours of training for those who need them for their educational or licensure requirements.
