1 Hello and thank you for your interest in Northern Calvert Christian Co-Op (NCCC). Our co-op began in October 2014 as a small idea amongst 2 homeschooling moms who felt the need for a program that suited their children. This small personal "want" has become the need many families have been looking for. This 2 family group has grown reaching over 30 students; with such great growth came some growing pains. Those growing pains were the need for a new facility to hold our co-op. As God often does, if you pray and have a need, He will fill it and He did. Emmanuel Church in Huntingtown graciously opened their doors to us and has become our much needed home. As our Board was established, we have been able to gather a fun, hands on learning curriculum for the remainder of the year, the summer, as well as the upcoming year. At this time we are opening our doors to anyone interested in attending these sessions. However, to be certain to keep the focus on our children s educational needs and the teachers abilities to teach a class, we will have to place a minimum grade limit of third grade. What does this mean? It means that if your son, Jack is the oldest in your family and he is in the 3 rd grade, but your son, John, is in 2 nd and your daughter, Jane, is in kindergarten, because the oldest child is in the minimum grade required all of your children are welcome to attend. Why have we felt we had to set this standard? Unfortunately, we ran into one of our former growing pains because we had a lot of Kindergarten and below, and few 2-4 th grade. In order to maintain somewhat of even numbers this was the easiest way. We may be able to open up the kindergarten and up at a later time, but as of now we must remain with the minimum grade of 3 rd. If we meet our class size maximums we will create a waiting list. If the waiting list shows the numbers to be able to create a second class, in that that grade level, we will do so. Please note, this is not set to detour anyone, but to ensure all students attending receive the best opportunities to succeed in the hands on fun classes we have planned. Our co-op strives to be an enrichment to your at home work, not a replacement. Our classes are designed to help with the hands on portions of each class. There will still need to be reading and follow up at home to complete a full class s credit. For example, History through literature will be a class that covers the literary parts of the story and the time period in history through discussions and other mediums. However, research at home will be needed either from reading the book at home or further research on the time period. There is no specific curriculum required for these classes; our classes are designed to supplement the curriculum of your choice or your methods for teaching. If you would like to use a curriculum we are using or a plan we have for our children please ask we are all willing and happy to help one another.

2 As you read through all the different pages and selections in our packets, we just want to let everyone know, that while we have worked very hard to give you a completed plan for school year, we are still firming up some details; such as the book lists for middle and high school. We are also working on getting the lowest possible costs for a lab kit for the science labs and the material cost for the other classes. We will get this out to everyone as soon as possible. If you have any questions please let us know and we will do our best to answer them. Thank you again for your interest. You are welcome to start at any session, please just let us know you do plan to attend so that we can put your children on the class lists to reserve their spots. And the God of peace will be with you. Philippians 4:8-9 Statement of Faith The Bible God wrote a book The Bible is God's Word to all people. It was written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. Because it was inspired by God, the Bible is truth without any mixture of error and is completely relevant to our daily lives. (Deuteronomy 4:1-2; Psalms 119:11, 89, 105; Isaiah 40:8; Matthew 22:29; John 5:39; 16:13-15; 17:17; Romans 15:4; 2 Timothy 3:15-17; Hebrews 1:1-2; 4:12; 1 Peter 1:25; 2 Peter 3:16) Trinity God: Three in One God has existed in relationship with Himself for all eternity. He exists as one substance in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Although each member of the Trinity serves different functions, they each possess equal power and authority. (Deuteronomy 6:4; Isaiah 61:1; Matthew 28:19; Mark 1:9-11; Luke 1:35; John 5:21-23; 14:10, 16; Romans 8:9-11; 1 Corinthians 8:6; 2 Corinthians 13:14; Hebrews 1:8-10; James 2:19) The Father God is great, God is good God is great: He is all powerful, all knowing, ever present, unchanging, completely worthy of our trust, and above all, holy. It is in Him that we live, move, and exist. God is good: He is our Father. He is loving, compassionate, and faithful to His people and His promises. (Exodus 3:14; Numbers 23:19; Leviticus 11:44-45; 19:2; Psalm 11:4-6; Malachi 3:6 John 3:16; 4:24; 5:26; 14:1; Acts 17:28; Romans 3:3-4) The Son God became man Jesus Christ is completely human, but at the same time completely God. He is the only plan for bringing people who are enemies of God back into a right relationship with God. He lived a perfect life, so that He could be a substitution for us in satisfying God's demands for perfection. He defeated death in His resurrection so that we could have life. (Isaiah 7:14; 53; Matthew 1:18-23; 3:17; 8:29; 14:33; 16:16; 28:5-6; Luke 22:70; 24:46-47; John 1:1, 14; 10:30; 11:25-27; 17:1-5; Acts 1:9; 2:22-24; 7:55-56; Romans 1:3-4; 3:23-26; 8:1-3; 10:4; 1 Corinthians 8:6; 2 Corinthians 5:19-21; Gal 4:4-5; Philippians 2:5-11; Colossians 1:15; 2:9; 1 Timothy 2:5-6; 3:16) The Holy Spirit God is always present His presence assures us of our relationship with Christ. He guides believers into all truth, and exalts Christ. He convicts people of their sin, God's righteousness, and the coming judgment. He comforts us, gives us spiritual gifts, and makes us more like Christ. He will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or in union with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is Hell. To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life. Heaven and Hell are places of eternal existence. (John 3:16, 36; Romans 6:23; 1 John 2:25; 5:11-13; Revelation 20:15)

4 Man God's image bearers Man is made in the image of God and is the supreme object of His creation. Man was created to have fellowship with God, but became separated in that relationship through sinful disobedience. As a result, man cannot attain a right relationship with God through his own effort. Every human personality is uniquely created, possesses dignity, and is worthy of respect and Christian love. (Genesis 1:26-30; 2:7, 18-22; 3; Psalms 8:3-6; 32:1-5; 51:5; Isaiah 6:5; Jeremiah 17:5; Acts 17:26-31; Romans 1:19-32; 3:10-18, 23; 5:6; 6:6; 7:14-25; 1 Corinthians 1:21-31; 15:19, 21-22; Ephesians 2; Colossians 1:21-22; 3:9-11) Salvation God's only way The blood of Jesus Christ, shed on the cross, provides the only way of salvation through the forgiveness of sin. Salvation occurs when people place their faith in the death and resurrection of Christ as sufficient payment for their sin. Salvation is a gift from God and it cannot be earned through our own efforts. (Isaiah 1:18; 53:5-6; 55:7; Matthew 1:21; 27:22-28:6; Luke 1:68-69; 2:28-32; John 1:12; 3:16, 36; 5:24;Acts 2:21; 4:12; 16:30-31; Romans 1:16-18;3:23-25; 5:8-10; 6; 1 Corinthians 1:18; 2 Corinthians 5:17-20; Galatians 2:20; 3:13; Ephesians 2:8-10;Philippians 2:12-13; Hebrews 9:24-28; Revelation 3:20) While leaders and teachers of Northern Calvert Christian Co-Op are required to sign a Statement of Faith, members are not held to these same standards. This being said, we are an openly and unapologetically Christian group by design, and as such, will be mentioning God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit and other mainstream Christian concepts as well as teaching from this perspective. Members are not required to sign the statement of faith but are asked however to not dispute, discredit, question or contradict these standards during co-op hours or any NCCC events.

5 NORTHERN CALVERT CHRISTIAN CO-OP BEHAVIOR AND CONDUCT GUIDELINES Welcome to our Co-Op group! Please review our rules and regulations surrounding behavior and activity attendance. These guidelines are in place so that everyone in N.C.C.C. can be comfortable and so that issues do not become personal, but simply a matter of following the rules. Below is a list of guidelines that our group has adopted. If you have any additions to the list or a problem with a guideline, please let a member of the Board know. Philippians 4:8-9 Co-Op Guidelines This Co-Op group is meant to be for educational purposes first and foremost; secondly we promote the socialization and fun available at the appropriate times during our meetings. We like to begin each week s meeting promptly at 10:00am, 9:45am beginning September There will be a group lunch afterwards; this is solely at the discretion of the parents attending if they would like to bring a lunch and join. No smoking is allowed during any of our co-op events that are going on. Remember that at all times you are responsible for the safety of your children. If you are uncomfortable about the safety at co-op event, please voice your concerns to the hostess or a board member so we can attempt to mend the problem for future activities. For the remainder of the year lessons are planned by the board based on the book of the month. Please let a board member know where you see your gifts utilized and where you can plus in. There also maybe times that you are asked as a member to either bring items to use for the lesson/activity planned. You are asked to contribute a nominal amount of money towards the material cost. Please see the Financial Statement for further details.

6 Field trips will be attempted to be scheduled for those interested in attending as a group, in order to participate in group rates as well as group activities. These will be separate from our weekly scheduled meetings. There will also be additional events planned and opened up to any prospective members. (ie: Christmas Play, Community Service projects, End of Year Picnic, etc.) Healthy Kids Guidelines Please do not attend any of our co-op functions if your child is sick. This is very important since there are pregnant and nursing mothers and small children. We will be defining sick as: having a fever, vomiting, diarrhea, green discharge from nose or any other illness in the previous 24 hours. Also considered ill is a person with nasal discharge other than clear. Anyone exposed to ANY communicable disease is considered sick until they are through the incubation period, even if symptoms are not present. It is expected that you will use your best judgment when determining whether it is appropriate for you or your child to attend an activity or event. Please inform a board member if your child is ever diagnosed with an illness and you have recently attended one of our activities so we can inform moms with kids who may have been exposed. Food at Meetings/Events/Activities When your child is having a snack, please try to keep the area clean and food off the floors. If you bring a beverage and snack for your child to meetings or events, we must ask that you not share your child's food with other children. Please always check with the mother of the child before offering any food. Some children have strict diets due to religion, health or lifestyle. This may be difficult but we ask for your cooperation. In the end you are responsible for your own child/children at the meetings and events so please keep your eyes on them at all times. There are no tree nuts of any type permitted at group events as there is a life threatening allergy known already by a member. CODE OF CONDUCT For the children We all need to remember to focus on the behavior and not on the individual. Parents are responsible for the actions and safety of their own children at all times. Neither this co-op group, parents attending nor the board is responsible for the actions or safety of any children or adults at any time. Each mother is responsible for her own child's behavior. We have to remember there is no right or wrong way of parenting; we are not to judge each other.

7 AGGRESSIVE BEHAVIOR includes, but is not limited to, purposeful and deliberate: hair pulling hitting / kicking wrestling (with intent to harm, not just consenting rough play) hitting with objects scratching destroying property punching / pushing screaming / inappropriate language throwing of any objects If any of these behaviors occur, then the mom should remove her child from the area. After a short bit of time, this child can resume the activity. If after the original incident, this behavior does not cease then the child and mother shall leave for the day. If a child is consistently having behavioral problems that have warranted removal from several activities (3 or more times removed from an activity), the mother may be asked to refrain from attending events until the child's aggressive or anti-social behavior is under control. UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOR biting spitting urinating (purposely) in public profanity fighting If any of these behaviors OCCUR then that mother and child will leave for the day. If a child ATTEMPTS any of these behaviors, then his/her mother should remove that child briefly from the area. If another attempt is made then the child and mother will leave for the day. If three episodes of any of the above behaviors occur then membership may be terminated at the executive board's discretion. Our goal is to be a safe place for our children to learn, play and socialize. If a child acts out in any of the above mentioned behaviors and the parent is not present at that time, the child will be asked to stop said behavior immediately and asked to go to their parent to be informed and for any necessary action to take place by the child s parent.

8 CODE OF CONDUCT For the adults The purpose of the Code of Conduct is to establish guidelines for member at all co-op functions or when interacting with other members. It will allow for the terminating of their membership if they violate the guidelines established and set forth herein. The final decision will rest with the Executive Board (by majority vote). No member shall use obscene or abusive verbal language directed toward any other member of the club, their child/children, or with outsiders while at a co-op event or conducting co-op business (advertisers, business owners, other people present at public place events, etc.) No member shall use physical or obscene gestures toward any other member of the club, their child/children, or with outsiders while at a co-op event or conducting co-op business (advertisers, business owners, other people present at public place events, etc.) Members shall refrain from malicious gossip or harassment regarding other members of the group in person, via phone or . All members shall be considerate and respectful of other members and their property. Members shall not misuse the Co-Op roster or ANY of its contents (phone numbers, addresses, street addresses, etc.) for home based businesses, solicitation, divulging or selling information, etc. The roster is only to be given to members of the Co-Op. use should be carefully considered. Only Board members permit mass s. Anyone who has a message they feel should be distributed by mass should forward that message to a board member who will pass it on as deemed necessary. Please respect home school families' time and privacy. The face book group page is a great place to open post things. Actions by the board may be taken against any Member who violates the Code of Conduct. The Executive Board makes the final decision about whether a specific act or behavior is, in fact, a violation of any part of this code of conduct. The actions that can be taken include: 1. First Offense Verbal Warning 2. Second Offense Written Warning 3. Third Offense Termination of membership. Her dues will be forfeited The Code of Conduct for both the children and adults may be modified as needed by a majority vote of the group. All members will be notified of any such changes. We hope we never run into situations like those listed; but, for our member s and children's protection, we prefer to have this code in place. All actions taken against a member will be the joint decision (by majority vote) of the executive board of the group, not just one officer or one member. While we know this policy cannot be all encompassing, please note the unanimous decision of the board can be used to revoke membership or skip steps in the aforementioned process at any time (without warning) given a severe, unforeseen circumstance. 9 Financials for NCCC School year Financial Agreement: Each family will donate $10.00 per child (cap of $50.00) as a tithe to Emanuel Church per semester. Emmanuel allows us to use their facilities at no charge. Our tithe is a donation of thanks for their support of our co-op and continuing to further our children s education. Supplies: Each student will be asked to pay a supply fee for the year. The fee will include lab supplies, binders or lap-books (including co-op cost for sharing the lap-book copy-right). Also, the fee will include other supplies such as markers, pencils, glue, art and craft supplies, etc. that will be purchased for co-op use. Fee is TBA as we research the lowest prices available to create lab kits If there is money remaining in the supply account at the end of the co-op year the money will be tithed to Emmanuel Church. This is a Non-Profit Co-Op. Our teachers, members and board are all volunteers. Each family is responsible for printing any materials (such as lap-book pages) at home and for obtaining the literature books and whatever other texts they will be using at home (such as the Apology text).

10 I have read and agree to the code of conduct. I also understand the statement of faith for Northern Calvert Christian Co-Op. Although I may not agree with all points on the statement of faith I am in agreement to not argue, question or dispute such things during a co-op meeting or event. I understand that events unless specifically stated are not drop off events and a parent must stay with your child(ren) at all events. Any exception to this must be signed off on by a board member.
