1 Series Title: BELIEVE Today s Message: Part 8: Seeing Jesus as Messiah and Christ GO THROUGH PERSONAL CONFESSION SHEET TOGETHER (EXPECTATIONS BASED ON KNOWING WHO WE ARE IN CHRIST) When we know who we are, then we act based on that identity. WHAT THIS CLASS IS ABOUT: John 17:17 sanctifying by truth, by the Word of God: 1. Removing concealments (lies of the enemy and hindrances to receiving) 2. Revealing God s love & truth about who He is, the finished work of Christ, & our position as believers & members of the body of Christ (knowing your Christ ID) 3. Providing understanding about prayer as the bible teaches and equipping believers to pray in the power and authority given to us in Christ by the Holy Spirit. 4. Encouraging, preparing and strengthening the bride of Christ to take her place in perfect union with Christ 5. Ministering in the power of the Holy Spirit to bring healing and wholeness to the body of Christ, causing each one to receive an abundance of fruit in their personal lives and to also bear much fruit unto the glory of God for the lives of others PRAYER REVIEW (SEPARATE SHEET FOR 1 ST TIME ATTENDEES): Scriptures Review: [Jhn 7:37-38 TPT, 39ESV] All you thirsty ones, come to me! Believe in me, so that rivers of living water will burst out from within you, flowing from your innermost being, just like the Scripture says! 39 Now this he said about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were to receive, for as yet the Spirit had not been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified. [Jhn 6:29 ESV] 29 Jesus answered them, "This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent." [Rom 4:3 NIV] 3 What does Scripture say? "Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness." [Rom 4:16 NIV] 16 Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may be by grace and may be guaranteed to all Abraham's offspring--not only to those who are of the law but also to those who have the faith of Abraham. He is the father of us all. [Jhn 14:1-1 ESV] 1 "Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me (Jesus speaking: believe in me Jesus is the Word.)

2 [Heb 4:3 ESV] 3 For we who have believed enter that rest, as he has said, "As I swore in my wrath, 'They shall not enter my rest,'" although his works were finished from the foundation of the world. I. REVIEW FROM LAST WEEK: WHAT IT MEANS TO BELIEVE A. Strong's Number: g4100 Greek: pisteuo 1. To believe; to be persuaded of; to place confidence in; to trust 2. Signifies, in this sense of the word, reliance upon, NOT mere credence (more than simply acceptance of something as truth). It is most frequent in the writings of the Apostle John B. Do I simply believe and agree that Jesus is the Word, or do I RELY on the word (Jesus)? [Jhn 14:6 NKJV] Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. 1. Do I believe and agree that Jesus is the way, or do I RELY on Jesus as the way? 2. Do I believe and agree that Jesus is the truth, or do I RELY on Jesus as the truth? 3. Do I believe and agree that Jesus is the life, or do I RELY on Jesus as the life? C. To believe in the way Jesus is calling us to believe upon Him means RELYING and depending upon him (the word), and receiving personal ministry from him not only externally agreeing that He is who He says He is, but internally being ruled upon your reliance on Him. WHAT IT MEANS TO BE SAVED: According to Greek definition found at Saved = sózó in the Greek (Strong s Concordance G4982) = delivered, protected, healed, preserved, done well, made whole II. KNOWING WHAT IT MEANS THAT JESUS IS MESSIAH & CHRIST A. Messiah means the anointed one 1. It comes from the Hebrew word mashiyach

3 Strong s Concordance H4899 which means anointed and refers to kings, priests and people anointed by God. 2. The acknowledgment of one as being anointed by God was represented with a smearing of oil upon them. People who were anointed by God were designated, appointed, given authority, qualified, and equipped for specific offices and tasks. 3. The Hebrew word is only translated as Messiah twice in the OT in the book of Daniel in Dan 9:25 and 26. In 37 other instances in the OT, the same Hebrew word is translated into English as anointed and not as Messiah. 4. Example of the translation as anointed : 1 Sam 24:6 when David is speaking of Saul as God s anointed: And he said unto his men, The LORD forbid that I should do this thing unto my master, the LORD'S anointed, H4899 to stretch forth mine hand against him, seeing he is the anointed H4899 of the LORD. B. Jesus as Messiah is the Hebrew term for the anointed one and also the anointed king who was designated, appointed, given authority, qualified and equipped to save God s people from sin, to restore us unto God, and to be our king. C. As messiah and anointed king, Jesus is our savior anointed with the specific task of setting us free from sin, condemnation, and the curse and reconciling us to God. Through redemption in Christ, our savior, we also regain possession of all that was taken by the enemy and intended for God s people. D. God promised the Jews in the OT that the Messiah would save them and be their king, but they did not believe that Jesus was the Messiah when he came. Today, Jews are still waiting for a Messiah; the person who will come again to rule in God's kingdom forever. E. Christ is the Greek word for Messiah. III. THE PROCESS OF BELIEVING & RECEIVING AS WE COME TO PERSONALLY KNOW JESUS AS MESSIAH & CHRIST A. Jesus reveals himself to those with open hearts to receive him 1. Samaritan woman at the well

4 [Jhn 4:25-26 ESV] [25] The woman said to him, "I know that Messiah is coming (he who is called Christ). When he comes, he will tell us all things." [26] Jesus said to her, "I who speak to you am he." 2. Man Jesus healed who was blind from birth [Jhn 9:35-37 ESV] [35] Jesus heard that they had cast him out, and having found him he said, "Do you believe in the Son of Man?" [36] He answered, "And who is he, sir, that I may believe in him?" [37] Jesus said to him, "You have seen him, and it is he who is speaking to you." 3. Martha said of her she was worried and upset about many things (Luke 10:41) Jesus reveals himself to her as he is headed to raise Lazarus from the dead [Jhn 11:23-25 ESV] [23] Jesus said to her, "Your brother will rise again." [24] Martha said to him, "I know that he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day." [25] Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, B. Jesus desires to manifest himself to all who love him (agape love: hold him in esteem, with preference, give value to him, honor him and respect him - with the mouth wide open as in wonder, surprise or eagerness) [Jhn 14:21 ESV] [21] Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him." C. Jesus never confirmed, denied, revealed, or defended his true identity to the unbelieving Jews and Pharisees, but instead only confirmed the lowly position they identified him with, and thus that was who he remained as to them. [Jhn 18:4-5, 37 ESV] [4] Then Jesus, knowing all that would happen to him, came forward and said to them, "Whom do you seek?" [5] They answered him, "Jesus of Nazareth." Jesus said to them, "I am he." Judas, who betrayed him, was standing with them.... D. Pilate identifies him as a king [37] Then Pilate said to him, "So you are a king?" Jesus answered, "You say that I am a king. For this purpose I was born and for this purpose I have come into the world--to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice." E. Some people will come so far as to be with the word, around the word and even follow the word for a time, but when Jesus tells them to eat the word and

5 digest it, fully receiving Him, they turn away from him and no longer follow him (the word). The bread of life is received and manifested to those who eat of it. [Jhn 6:51, 66 ESV] [51] I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh."... [66] After this many of his disciples turned back and no longer walked with him.
