The Bible Truth Why The King James Bible Is The Perfectly Preserved Word Of God

Question: Why do we use the King James Bible? Answer: Our use of the King James Bible is not due to CONVENIENCE or CONVENTION but due to CONVICTION. We use it exclusively because we believe it is the perfectly preserved word of God in English Question: How do we know the King James Bible is the perfectly preserved word of God?

Pre-Requisite #1 Preservation, like Inspiration, is a clear Bible doctrine and applies to every word

2 Tim 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 2 Pet 1: Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. 21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. Pro 30:5 Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. INSPIRATION is the miraculous confluent process whereby the Lord revealed his words to men and moved them to write them down in such a manner that their distinct personalities and writing styles were demonstrated yet every word is the word of God and not the words of men ALL scripture is given by inspiration and EVERY WORD of God is PURE (i.e.- plenary-verbal inspiration)- in spite of all the faults and frailties of the men involved

Psa 12:6-7 6 The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. 7 Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever. The same Lord who INSPIRED his word, promised to PRESERVE his word because whatsoever God doeth, it shall be forever (Ecc 3:14) o The same Lord who CREATED all things (Heb 11:3), UPHOLDS all things (Heb 1:3) o The same Lord who SAVED us (Eph 2:8; Rom 10:17), KEEPS us (1 Pet 1:5) o The same Lord who INSPIRED his pure words, promised to PRESERVE his pure words The promise of preservation applies to the ENTIRETY of God s PURE words and extends to ETERNITY- in spite of all the faults and frailties of man involved in copying or translating The question is not, Do we have a perfect, infallible, inerrant Bible, but Where is the word of the Lord? Let it come now (Jer 17:15)

Pre-Requisite #2 Preservation extends to copies and translations

The Lord has taken responsibility to ensure his pure words are preserved forever (Psa 12:7) because men are sinners and fraught with fault and error, not to mention the fact that the process of copying or translating a text as large as the Bible does not lend itself to perfection This is why the majority of scholars do not believe that all the pure words of God that were originally inspired have been perfectly preserved in their purity today The promise of divine preservation ensures that it is so in spite of all logic to the contrary There are ample examples in the scripture supporting the fact that a translation can be the infallible, inerrant word of God 1) Every time the Old Testament (OT) is quoted in the New Testament (NT), it is a TRANSLATION (from Hebrew to Greek) yet the NT translation is just as much the infallible, inerrant word of God as the OT original

Rom 4:3; Jam 2:23 cf. Gen 15:6 For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness. And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. Rom 9:17 cf. Exo 9:13,16 For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might show my power in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth. Rom 10:11; 1 Pet 2:6 cf. Isa 28:16 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded. Gal 4:30 cf. Gen 21:10 Nevertheless what saith the scripture? Cast out the bondwoman and her son: for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman. Jam 2:8 cf. Lev 19:18 If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:

2) Every time an Aramaic word is interpreted in the NT, it is a TRANSLATION (from Aramaic to Greek), yet the Greek translation is the infallible, inerrant word of God Mark 5:41 And he took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise. Mark 7:11,34 11 But ye say, If a man shall say to his father or mother, It is Corban, that is to say, a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; he shall be free. 34 And looking up to heaven, he sighed, and saith unto him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened. Mark 14:36 And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt. Mark 15:34 And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

John 1:42 And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone. Acts 9:36 Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which by interpretation is called Dorcas: this woman was full of good works and almsdeeds which she did. 3) Every time the gift of interpreting tongues was exercised, it was a TRANSLATION, yet the translation was the infallible, inerrant word of God (assuming the original tongue was the word of God and not a personal abuse of the gift) 1 Cor 12:10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: 1 Cor 14:13 Wherefore let him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret.

It is the WILL of God to get the WORD of God to the WORLD, in a language each can understand o o The revelation of God in creation is translated in every language There will be saved people in heaven from EVERY TONGUE; since we are saved by grace through faith (Eph 2:8), and faith comes from hearing the WORD OF GOD (Rom 10:17), that means that people of every language have had access to the infallible, inerrant word of God Psa 19:1-4 1 The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. 2 Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. 3 There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard. 4 Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun, Rev 5:9 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;

Again, the question is not, Do we have a perfect, infallible, inerrant Bible, but Where is the word of the Lord? Let it come now (Jer 17:15) How We Know The King James Bible Is The Perfectly Preserved Word Of God 1) It s TEXT 2) It s TRANSLATION 3) It s TRUTH 4) It s TESTIMONY

Proof #1 It s TRANSLATION- The translation method of the King James Bible complies with divine preservation

1) It s Translation 1. The APPROACH Of It s Translation- Formal Equivalency ALL scripture (i.e.- every WORD) was given by inspiration of God (2 Tim 3:16; 2 Pet 1:21) The promise of preservation applies to the PURE WORDS of the Lord (Psa 12:6-7) so that EVERY WORD of God IS (present tense) PURE (Pro 30:5); it is also ENTIRE (i.e.- the pure WORDS) and ETERNAL (i.e.- forever) Since inspiration and preservation apply to EVERY WORD, a translation must be a word-for-word translation from the divinely preserved text in order to be the word of God Formal equivalency is a word for word translation method, as opposed to dynamic equivalency which is a thought for thought translation method The King James Bible is a formal equivalent translation of the preserved texts

2. The ACCURACY Of It s Translation In order for a translation to be the word of God it must be 100% accurate in it s translation 54 men divided into 6 companies, 2 at Westminster, 2 at Oxford, and 2 at Cambridge Each company was assigned a portion of scripture to translate An individual translation was made first and shared/reviewed by the rest of the company A company translation was then made and shared/reviewed by the other 5 companies A complete translation was then made and sent to a referral committee of 12 men (2 from each company) The entire work was then sent to a publication committee of 2 men before being sent to the Royal Printer Every word of scripture was reviewed a minimum of 14 times under this method There are no proven errors in the King James Bible

Proof #2 It s TEXT- The underlying texts of the King James Bible are the divinely preserved texts in the original languages

2) It s Text There are only two kinds of text, preserved and perverted; therefore, there are only two kinds of translation, preserved or perverted Everything produces after its kind- if the root is corrupt, then the fruit is corrupt (Matt 7:18; Rom 11:16) In order for a translation to be the word of God it must be 100% based on the divinely preserved text There are two main text types or streams: (1) The Alexandrian; and (2) The Antiochian o o The ALEXANDRIAN text- the MINORITY text (5% of the mss.); the POLLUTED stream; the PERVERTED text The ANTIOCHIAN text- the MAJORITY text (95% of the mss.); the PURE stream; the PRESERVED text Note: Is it a coincidence that the 7,000 divinely preserved prophets of Elijah s time constitute a 95% majority when compared to the 400 false prophets of Jezebel? (1 Kin 18:19) o o ALEXANDRIA is associated with those who DISPUTE the true men of God (Acts 6:9) and those going to ROME (Acts 27:6; 28:11,14) ANTIOCH is associated with the first DEACONS (Acts 6:5) and the disciples who were first called CHRISTIANS (Acts 11:26)

The preserved word of God in the original languages of Hebrew and Greek are the Masoretic Text and the Textus Receptus The King James Bible is the only English Bible based completely on the Hebrew Masoretic Text and Greek Textus Receptus, and translated ONLY from texts in the pure and preserved Antiochian Because of its underlying TEXT and its TRANSLATION method, the King James Bible has superior THEOLOGY

1 THE TWO CITIES Dr. Jack Moorman, who s p e n t m a n y y e a r s i n researching the question of Bible versions, has stated that the transmission of the G r e e k t e x t o f t h e N e w Testament is essentially a "t ale of two cities", viz., Antioch and Alexandria. Dr. Moorman writes: "Just as surely as the King James text was woven into the spiritual life of Antioch in Syria, so was the modern versions text in Alexandria. Today a person must decide w h e t h e r h e i s m o r e comfortable with a Bible whose roots go back to one or the other of these two cities...certainly Antioch has by far the most glorious heritage." ANTIOCH: Here was the springboard for the Gentile church. It became the center for Gentile Christians just as Jerusalem was for the Jews. "The disciples were called Christians first at Antioch" (Acts 11:26). Antioch was the center for the outreach of the apostle Paul and his missionary journeys. Many of the disciples also visited Antioch. Antioch was the heartbeat of Christianity. ALEXANDRIA: The place where most of the modern t e x t s a n d t r a n s l a t i o n s originated, had no such glory. It is true, however, that Alexandria became a center of intellectualism. Such men as Clement and Origen were active in this area. It was also noted as a place where every d e v i a n t s e c t w a s re pr ese nted. R eli gi ous c o r r u p t i o n a n d f a l s e doctrines were prevalent i n c l u d i n g G n o s t i c i s m, Arianism, pagan philosophy, etc. Alexandria was the place where the intellectuals of Christianity were attracted. 2 THE TWO ESSENTIALS Since God has inspired his Word has He also preserved H i s W o r d? H a s H e p r e s e r v e d i t f o r e v e r y generation? The Westminster Confession(1646) states: " T h e S c r i p t u r e s w e r e immediately inspired of God and under His singular care and providence kept pure in all ages." The Bible has the final say in the matter: 'The words of the Lord are pure words...thou shalt keep them, O Lord, Thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.' (Psalm 12: 6,7). If we accept the Inspiration of Scripture we must also accept that every word has been and will be Preserved through the ages in the church. Both together are essential doctrines. 22 Proof #3 It s TRUTH- The translated text of the King James Bible is 100% TRUE in what it says

3) It s Truth In order for a translation to be the word of God, the words of it s text must be 100% true, truth, and right 100% of the time, and never lie 1. The word of God is TRUE (Psa 119:160) and TRUTH (John 17:17) 2. The word of God is RIGHT (Psa 33:4) 3. God CANNOT lie (Tit 1:2); it is IMPOSSIBLE for God to lie (Heb 6:18) 4. God is TRUE and every man is a LIAR (Rom 3:4) 5. The test of a true prophet (or word) of God is that their words must be 100% right 100% of time- if they are 99.9% right, then they are a FALSE prophet (word) according to the word of God (Deu 18:21-22) 6. Just ONE lie from a professing prophet or book that professes to be the word of God identifies them as FALSE and at best, the word of men English translations since the King James Bible have at least one lie in them, so NONE of them are true word of God- only the words of the KJB are 100% true and right

The Lie: Elhanan killed Goliath 2 Sam 21:19 (NASB) There was war with the Philistines again at Gob, and Elhanan the son of Jaare-oregim the Bethlehemite killed Goliath the Gittite, the shaft of whose spear was like a weaver s beam. 2 Sam 21:19 (ESV) And there was again war with the Philistines at Gob, and Elhanan the son of Jaare-oregim, the Bethlehemite, struck down Goliath the Gittite, the shaft of whose spear was like a weaver s beam. 2 Sam 21:19 (HCSB) Once again there was a battle with the Philistines at Gob, and Elhanan son of Jaare-oregim the Bethlehemite killed Goliath the Gittite. The shaft of his spear was like a weaver s beam. The Truth: Elhanan killed the brother of Goliath 2 Sam 21:19 (KJB) And there was again a battle in Gob with the Philistines, where Elhanan the son of Jaareoregim, a Bethlehemite, slew the brother of Goliath the Gittite, the staff of whose spear was like a weaver's beam.

The Lie: The morning (day) star is the fallen one from heaven Isa 14:12 (NASB) How you have fallen from heaven, O star of the morning, son of the dawn! You have been cut down to the earth, You who have weakened the nations! Isa 14:12 (NIV) How you have fallen from heaven, morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations! Isa 14:12 (ESV) How you are fallen from heaven, O Day Star, son of Dawn! How you are cut down to the ground, you who laid the nations low! Isa 14:12 (HCSB) Shining morning star, how you have fallen from the heavens! You destroyer of nations, you have been cut down to the ground.

The Truth: Lucifer (Satan) is the fallen one from heaven Isa 14:12 (KJB) How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!

The Lie: The fourth man in the fire was a son of the gods Dan 3:25 (NASB) He said, Look! I see four men loosed and walking about in the midst of the fire [fn]without harm, and the appearance of the fourth is like a son of the gods! Dan 3:25 (NIV) He said, Look! I see four men walking around in the fire, unbound and unharmed, and the fourth looks like a son of the gods. Dan 3:25 (ESV) He answered and said, But I see four men unbound, walking in the midst of the fire, and they are not hurt; and the appearance of the fourth is like a son of the gods. Dan 3:25 (HCSB) He exclaimed, Look! I see four men, not tied, walking around in the fire unharmed; and the fourth looks like a son of the gods.

The Truth: The fourth man in the fire was the Son of God Dan 3:25 (KJB) He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.

The Lie: It is difficult (hard) to be saved Matt 7:14 (NKJV) Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it. Mark 10:24 (NASB) The disciples were amazed at His words. But Jesus answered again and said to them, "Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God! Mark 10:24 (NIV) The disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said again, "Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God! Mark 10:24 (ESV) And the disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said to them again, "Children, how difficult it is to enter the kingdom of God!

Mark 10:24 (HCSB) But the disciples were astonished at His words. Again Jesus said to them, Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God! The Truth: The way to life is narrow and it is hard for those who trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God Matt 7:14 (KJB) Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. Mark 10:24 (KJB) And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God!

The Lie: Jesus Christ lied about going to the feast John 7:8,14 (NASB) 8 Go up to the feast yourselves; I do not go up to this feast because My time has not yet fully come. 14 But when it was now the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple, and began to teach. John 7:8,14 (NIV) 8 You go to the festival. I am not going up to this festival, because my time has not yet fully come. 14 Not until halfway through the festival did Jesus go up to the temple courts and begin to teach. John 7:8,14 (ESV) 8 You go up to the feast. I am not going up to this feast, for my time has not yet fully come. 14 About the middle of the feast Jesus went up into the temple and began teaching

The Truth: Jesus Christ did not lie about going up to the feast John 7:8,14 (KJB) 8 Go ye up unto this feast: I go not up yet unto this feast; for my time is not yet full come. 14 Now about the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple, and taught.

The Lie: The message of the cross is foolishness 1 Cor 1:21 (NKJV) For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe. 1 Cor 1:21 (NASB) For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not come to know God, God was well-pleased through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe. 1 Cor 1:21 (NIV) For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. 1 Cor 1:21 (ESV) For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe.

1 Cor 1:21 (HCSB) For since, in God s wisdom, the world did not know God through wisdom, God was pleased to save those who believe through the foolishness of the message preached. The Truth: Preaching is foolishness 1 Cor 1:21 (KJB) For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.

The Lie: Paul had to suffer in the flesh because the afflictions of Christ were not sufficient Col 1:24 (NKJV) I now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up in my flesh what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ, for the sake of His body, which is the church, Col 1:24 (NASB) Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I do my share on behalf of His body, which is the church, in filling up what is lacking in Christ's afflictions. Col 1:24 (NIV) Now I rejoice in what I am suffering for you, and I fill up in my flesh what is still lacking in regard to Christ's afflictions, for the sake of his body, which is the church. Col 1:24 (ESV) Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I am filling up what is lacking in Christ's afflictions for the sake of his body, that is, the church,

Col 1:24 (HCSB) Now I rejoice in my sufferings for you, and I am completing in my flesh what is lacking in Christ s afflictions for His body, that is, the church. The Truth: Paul did not think he suffered much Christ-like afflictions for the church Col 1:24 (KJB) Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body's sake, which is the church:

The Lie: All that came out of Egypt rebelled against the Lord Heb 3:16 (NKJV) For who, having heard, rebelled? Indeed, was it not all who came out of Egypt, led by Moses? Heb 3:16 (NASB) For who provoked Him when they had heard? Indeed, did not all those who came out of Egypt led by Moses? Heb 3:16 (NIV) Who were they who heard and rebelled? Were they not all those Moses led out of Egypt? Heb 3:16 (ESV) For who were those who heard and yet rebelled? Was it not all those who left Egypt led by Moses? Heb 3:16 (HCSB) For who heard and rebelled? Wasn t it really all who came out of Egypt under Moses?

The Truth: Some but not all that came out of Egypt rebelled against the Lord Heb 3:16 (KJB) For some, when they had heard, did provoke: howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moses. Someone doesn t want God s people to know that MANY are engaged in Bible CORRUPTION (2 Cor 2:17) and that the truth of God has been CHANGED into a lie (Rom 1:25) while still professing to be the word of God.

Proof #4 It s TESTIMONY- The testimony of the King James Bible is exactly what the word of God says about itself

4) It s Testimony Another test the Lord gave his people to distinguish between a true prophet of God and a false prophet is to examine their FRUIT (Matt 7:15-20) If a translation is the perfectly preserved word of God, then it s fruit should match the fruit the word of God says it will bear itself HISTORY and the HOLY SPIRIT will bear witness to the fruit of the translation if it is the perfectly preserved word of God 1. It is PURE (Psa 12:6)- no proven translation errors 2. It is PRESERVED (Psa 12:7; Deu 30:11-14) 3. It is PERFECT (Psa 19:7)- the 7 th English Bible (Tyndale; Coverdale; Matthews; Great; Geneva; Bishop s; King James) 4. It is PLAIN (Pro 8:9)- mono-syllabic; written on a 6 th grade reading level 5. It is POWERFUL (Heb 4:12) o CONVICTING Power (2 Tim 4:2) o CONVERTING Power (Psa 19:7; Rom 10:17; 1 Pet 1:23) o COUNSELING Power (Rom 15:4; 2 Tim 3:16-17)

6. It is PERSECUTED (Pro 13:13)- it is the standard by which all bibles are compared to; it is hated by Satan and most men, including professing Christians 7. It is PUBLISHED (Psa 68:11) A. It s TONGUE o It is God s will to get his word to the world in a language they can understand, that they may hear it, and do it (Deu 30:13) o For the past 400 years, ENGLISH has been the global language of commerce (like Greek was for 400 years) B.
