Bless us with your presence each day of our lives. We have seen you and have felt your presence in the history of your people. God, be present in our history, in our communities, and be part of our lives. With love and mercy, you have cared, led, inspired and sustained your daughters and sons in all generations. Shine within us, inspire us, use us to make visible your peace, justice and truth. You, who are holy for all eternity, sanctify our lives with your blessing as we worship you. Let us worship God. adapted from the liturgy of the Reformed Church in Mar del Plata

4 * Prayer of Confession God of the ages, we confess to you that we have forgotten what it means to be your church that is reformed, always reforming. Often in our yearning to belong, we spend our time and energy lifting up ourselves, our wants and needs for community. We forget that we are but vessels of your light, your love, your way. On this day when we remember those who have gone before us, inspire us to dream, to think outside of the box, and to keep your church vibrant, relevant, and alive with the Holy Spirit for generations to come. Amen. * Assurance of Pardon * The Peace Leader: Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us forgive one another. The peace of Christ be with you. People: And also with you. Instrumental Response: Amazing Grace... amazing grace Mark Wayman and Pat Wiers, bagpipes

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Word of God the most high, our sole hope, eternal day of the earth and heavens, as we break the silence of the peaceful night, Divine Savior, look down upon us. Spread out over us the fire of your mighty grace so that hell itself will flee at the sound of your voice. Disperse the sleep which leads our languishing souls to stray from the path of righteousness. O Christ show your favor to your faithful people who have come together to worship you. 12 Welcome We welcome you to the worship of God and to the First Presbyterian community of faith. We are a church of growing disciples believing that worship is at the center of all we are and do as Christians. Visitors We are happy to have you with us! We encourage you to wear a VIV nametag, which can be found on the pews. Please visit to learn more about First Presbyterian Church. Please sign Visitors and members, please sign the blue Welcome notebooks. We are a big church. We care about how folks are doing and try to pay attention when our members haven t worshiped with us in a while. Please help us know you are here this week by signing your name. And please note the names of others on your pew and say Hello! For families with children FPC welcomes Christians of all ages and offers ways to make worship meaningful. Nursery: Care is provided for infants through children age 4 in our nursery in the Corl Building. Our child protection policy helps ensure our care is safe, loving and appropriate. We encourage young children to be accompanied by parents any time they leave the sanctuary; this includes restrooms and hallways. Worship bags: Pick up FPC Children in Worship bags at sanctuary entrances. Please return the bags with bookmarks and crayons after the service. Worship Enrichment, 10:45 a.m. service: After the children s message, children ages 4 to 7 are invited to follow the adult leaders to special activities in the gathering space downstairs in the Temple. They will return after the sermon. Next Sunday is All Saints Day On Sunday, November 2, we will observe All Saints Sunday. During worship services, pastors will read our necrology and celebrate our births during the past year. Later that day, our Music Ministry will present an All Saints Sunday Concert, 3 p.m. in the Phillips Chapel at the Canterbury School. Sermon series Today s sermon, The Untold Story of the Body of Christ, is part eight of a ten-part series, How GOD S Story Becomes OUR Story by Sid Batts. Becoming a member We welcome anyone who trusts in Jesus Christ to join our community of growing disciples. New members are received after completing Explore FPC, a class about our church and its ministries. The class will be offered again Saturday, November 8, 9 a.m. to noon, and Sunday, November 9, 9:30-10:10 a.m. in Currie Library. Contact Stephenie Sanders for sign-up and child care requests at , or ssanders@fpcgreensboro.org. Reformation Sunday Today is Reformation Sunday, when we think about our history and celebrate our roots in the 16th century Reformation movement. The parament on the lectern is plaid in honor of our Scottish heritage. In addition, we welcome Mark Wayman and Pat Wiers to this morning s worship services to share traditional bagpipe music. As a symbol of our heritage, the Paisley Bible has been placed on the Communion table during the Temple services. This Bible belonged to Father William Paisley, who founded First Presbyterian on Oct.3, 1824, with a dozen other souls. The Paisley Bible was presented to Rev. William D. Paisley for use in the Presbyterian Church by Greensboro Lodge No. 76 during his years as pastor. Commitment Sunday is November 9 On Commitment Sunday, November 9, we will return commitment cards and offer them to God as part of our worship during all three services. The focus of our stewardship this year is Thoughtful Stewards & Thankful Givers. My Giving Story Throughout the stewardship season, worship services will feature My Giving Story. Today during the Temple services, we will hear from Marshall Brown (8:30 a.m. service), and Tim and Lisa Cook (10:45 a.m. service). Senior Pastor Sid Batts Just a Thought messages air on WKZL FM each Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning. You can also subscribe to audio messages by at fpcgreensboro.org/connect/our-media#jat.
