2 Our Capital Campaign Our Capital Campaign as discussed at ur meeting last mnth will begin in January Catechesis: Scial Outreach Ruth Marchetti, Jim Hpper The fcus f this Scial Outreach Catechesis is the invlvement f St Jseph s with the Rchester ACTS (Alliance f Cmmunities Transfrming Sciety) prgram. PRESENTATION NOTES [with thanks t Cathy Kamp fr her cllectin f ntes] Rchester is the 5 th prest city in the US per capita verview f ACTS & ur parish cmmitment t it: ACTS is Alliance f Cmmunities Transfrming Sciety made up f 13 rganizatin including 5 Cathlic Churches, 4 African American Churches; a unin and additinal churches The grup is trying t address issues in the City f Rchester we nly live 10 miles away frm the city hw can we make a difference? Nv 15 is a Rc/ACTS kickff dinner and issues assembly ACTS will chse 3 issues t address. What are ur issues frm a St Jseph s perspective? verview f the listening campaign we are being asked t start in ur wn parish cmmunity. A listening campaign is a 1-n-1 prcess that is fcused n learning frm a persn; it s nt an exchange r an in-depth discussin. The gal fr the 1-n-1 listening campaign is t learn what mtivates the persn; what drives them. what des ACTS have t d with being Cathlic r the cmmunity f St Jseph s? Basic principles f Cathlic Scial Teaching shw hw we shuld be engaged with ther cmmunities in supprting the life and dignity f every persn. Gathering, building & strengthening needs t result in taking ur faith t the brader cmmunity and every persn created in the image f Gd. We are called t be engaged with the cmmunity, have rights & respnsibilities. (Nte that Assumptin parish is envisining 1,100 ne-n-ne s as a gal fr 12 mnths) fr St Jseph s, we re being asked by Rc/ACTS t identify 3 issues by Octber 29 f this year. Nt a lt f time. Why nt d a statistically significant study acrss the cmmunity? (ACTS will eventually pursue actin steps n 3 issues; the rt f this apprach is building relatinship) A result f such a prcess at St Jseph s culd be t build relatinships thrugh listening t a large crss sectin f the parish membership Hw wuld we advertise t attract the peple we d like t target? Is this a parish initiative r an ACTS initiative? Is this a hspitality initiative? Need t shw mre than the negative abut the city; need t nt alienate peple just because they live in the suburbs A cncern was expressed if issues arise in the Rc/ACTS grup that may be f crss-purpses with the Rman Cathlic Church but this was addressed by stating that Rc/ACTS members cannt advcate fr anything that is plicy r belief. Scial Outreach [Katie Denecke] See Team Fcus: Scial Outreach abve as Scial Outreach was the fcus f this week s meeting Pastral Care [Sr. Rsemary Sherman] This year we are welcming a new C-Chairpersn, Fran Glantn, and a new Staff Liaisn, Fr. Sergi. A thank yu is extended t Maura Davis, frmer C-Chairpersn, and t Cathy Kamp, the frmer Staff Liaisn. We have a frmatin prgram scheduled fr Octber 4 frm 9 t 11 and will be cntinuing t address the needs f thse wh are prviding care r did prvide care t their lved nes with mnthly supprt meetings n Sunday afternns nce a mnth. Faith fr Life [Jeanne Mney] Cntinue t create envirnments fr family faith frmatin: yesterday we enjyed ur first-ever meeting f Family Faith grups that gather at St. Jseph s and thse wh gather in each ther s hmes. There was a great energy and enthusiasm amng the 60-plus peple wh gathered t share faith with each ther and their families. The curriculum fr bth Family Faith and the Wednesday Night Classrm Faith Frmatin has been adapted t align with the church s calendar and parish Sacrament Preparatin. Nancy Vernesi will prvide details n Sacrament Preparatin at ur parish. The Wednesday Faith Frmatin schedule has been adjusted t include a mnthly Family evening. Families wh are registered fr Family Faith are als invited t attend these evenings, which include a Family Mass, celebratin f Recnciliatin, and catechesis n a variety f tpics. Catechist frmatin dates are set fr , cntinuing frm this summer s sessins fr catechists. Five sessins are scheduled thrughut the year, using Je Paprcki s bk, A Well-Built Faith fr catechists t learn and share faith tgether. Seeds f Faith, ur parish Faith Frmatin fr yung parishiners ages 2-4, will start Sunday, Octber 19th during the 11 am Mass. Parents will register their children n-line, as is currently dne fr ther Faith Frmatin prgrams. Middle and High Schl FAITH nights is starting September 14th after the 5 pm Mass. Included will be an in-depth lk at Rediscver Cathlic Faith, adult Faith Frmatin sessins t be held at a variety f times and places. Wrship [Nancy Vernesi] Institute sme minr changes in the Mass Crdinatr Ministry, mainly bringing everyne tgether fr meeting and nce again, standardizing the prcedures thrughut all masses, including making ur prcedures arund cmmunin time mre reverent and simple. New prcedure: taking the hsts directly t the tabernacle after cmmunin, rather than t the sacristy. Begins the weekend f Sept New gld cups and gld cibrium t be rdered very sn, replacing the glass vessels that we are currently using Cllabratin with Stewardship/Cmmunity Building Leadership Team: We have had mtg. with ushers, will cntinue t recruit and develp thse hspitality/usher prcedures. Dicesan wide there will be an Open Huse in early Nvember fr marketing f the Cathlic Schls. The Dicese f Rchester is ding the publicity fr this prgram. Recent upgrades in technlgy: 1 st grade: ne additinal class nw has a Smartbard due t the 5k Run in June kindergarten is awaiting Title funds t purchase a Smartbard shifted technlgy t replace an ld nn-wrking Interwrite Bard with a Smartbard already in the building. Schl theme fr ur schl this year is Caring fr Gd s Creatin Friday, 9/5/14, was the Opening Schl Liturgy. This liturgy highlighted the 7 days f creatin.
