Led by the Spirit into the Truth Who Is Christ PENTECOST May 23 & 24, 2015

Ebenezer Lutheran Church Port Hudson The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod 9100 Highway YY Leslie, Missouri Parsonage Church Rev. William F. Zastrow, Pastor Mary Sprick, Secretary ebenezerlutheranchurch.wordpress.com AS WE GATHER: The Scriptures tell us that they testify to Christ. The Spirit of God was sent to reveal this, first to the apostles on whom the Spirit came and to those whom they were sent to with the Good News of Christ. The Spirit s agenda is to make known Jesus Christ just as Jesus agenda is to fulfill the saving purpose of the Father in whose name He has come. We acknowledge the work of the Spirit among us through the Word and Sacraments. We rejoice in the Spirit who teaches our fearful hearts to believe in Jesus Christ and to proclaim His Gospel faithfully to the world. PRAYER BEFORE WORSHIP: Almighty God, You sent forth Your Spirit to teach our hearts to know Jesus Christ, Your Son, by faith. Lead us by the Holy Spirit to faithfully confess Jesus Christ with our words and to endure faithfully to the day of Christ s coming again, when all things will be brought to completion; through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen. HYMN Come, Holy Ghost, God and Lord LW 154 Come, Holy Ghost, God and Lord! Be all Thy graces now out poured On each believer's mind and heart; Thy fervent love to them impart. Lord, by the brightness of Thy light, Thou in the faith dost men unite Of every land and every tongue; 2

This to Thy praise, O Lord, our God, be sung. Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Thou holy Light, Guide Divine, Oh, cause the Word of Life to shine! Teach us to know our God aright And call Him Father with delight. From every error keep us free; Let none but Christ our Master be That we in living faith abide, In Him, our Lord, with all our might confide. Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Thou holy Fire, Comfort true, Grant us the will Thy work to do And in Thy service to abide; Let trials turn us not aside. Lord, by Thy power prepare each heart And to our weakness strength impart That bravely here we may contend, Through life and death to Thee, our Lord, ascend. Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Pastor: People: Pastor: People: O Lord, open Thou my lips. And my mouth shall show forth Thy praise Makes haste O God, to deliver me. Make haste to help me, O God. All: Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be forever. Amen. Hallelujah! INVITATORY Pastor: O come, let us worship the Lord; 3

People: For He is our Maker THE VINITE (Psalm 95) (sung to FRANCONIA LW 228) Come, sound his praise abroad, and hymns of glory sing: Jehovah is the sovereign God, the universal King. He formed the deeps unknown, he gave the seas their bound; the wat'ry worlds are all his own, and all the solid ground. Come, worship at his throne; come, bow before the Lord: we are his works, and not our own; he formed us by his word. Today attend his voice, nor dare provoke his rod; come, like the people of his choice, and own your gracious God. PSALM 104:24, 27 28, 30; antiphon: Liturgical Text All: Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of the faithful, and kindle in them the fire of Your love. Alleluia. O LORD, how manifold are Your works! In wisdom have You made them all; the earth is full of Your creatures. These all look to You, to give them their food in due season. When You give it to them, they gather it up; when You open Your hand, they are filled with good things. 4

When You send forth Your Spirit, they are created, and You renew the face of the ground. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen. Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of the faithful, and kindle in them the fire of Your love. Alleluia. HYMN Come, Gracious Spirit, Heavenly Dove sung to LW 161 Come, gracious Spirit, heav'nly dove, with light and comfort from above. Come, be our guardian, be our guide; o'er ev'ry thought and step preside. The light of truth to us display, and make us know and choose your way; plant holy fear in ev'ry heart, that we from God may ne'er depart. Lead us to Christ, the living way, nor let us from his pastures stray. Lead us to holiness, the road that we must take to dwell with God. Lead us to heav'n, that we may share fullness of joy forever there; lead us to our eternal rest, to be with God forever blest. LECTION Ezekiel 37:1 14 (The valley of the dry bones hears the Word of the Lord.) 5

John 15:26 27; 16:4b 15 ( When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all truth. ) Pastor: People: But You, O Lord, have mercy upon us. Thanks be to You, O Lord. HYMN Holy, Spirit, Ever Dwelling LW 164 Holy Spirit, ever dwelling In the holiest realms of light; Holy Spirit, ever brooding O'er a world of gloom and night; Holy Spirit, ever raising Those of earth to thrones on high; Living, life-imparting Spirit, You we praise and magnify. Holy Spirit, ever living As the Church's very life; Holy Spirit, ever striving Through us in a ceaseless strife; Holy Spirit, ever forming In the Church the mind of Christ; You we praise with endless worship For your fruits and gifts unpriced. Holy Spirit, ever working Through the Church's ministry; Quick'ning, strength'ning, and absolving, Setting captive sinners free; Holy Spirit, ever binding Age to age and soul to soul In communion never ending, You we worship and extol. SERMON The Ever Dwelling Spirit Acts 2:1 21 6

Shamrock Days at Camp Trinity, June 5&6 What are Shamrock Days? This will be a celebration at Camp Trinity very much like our past Family Fun Days. In an effort to share our mission we have renamed our annual event. New Haven, MO is well known for its shamrock and Camp Trinity nearly 25 years ago began using it on their cross for the sign of the Trinity as St. Patrick did many years ago. It was in one of his sermons in which he picked up a shamrock and held it before him to illustrate the doctrine begins at 10:00 a.m. of the Trinity, three in one and one in three. Recently one of our local artists, Russell Irwin, added the symbols of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit to our Shamrock. What St. Patrick truly had was an undoubting confidence in God s Word. His challenging faith gave him a remarkable ability to recruit devoted men and women who gathered about him to endure every privation for the sake of furthering the good news of the redemption of sinful man. This is also the mission of Camp Trinity, to share this same good news of the Trinity with all who come to Camp Trinity and then go back to their different communities scattered throughout the United States sharing with others. Shamrock Days, as in years past, will be open to the public for all to come and enjoy Camp Trinity both spiritually and physically. We will once again have the 5K Race /Warrior s Challenge & Fishing Derby, both complete with awards and attendance prizes, BBQ, Swimming, Crafts, Bounce House, lots of fun for all. This year we are adding a Poster Contest and archery. Please consider joining Camp Trinity in a fun filled day for people of all ages. There is something for everyone of eve- ry age to enjoy. Friday Night Overnight registrations begin at 6:00 p.m. Evening Activity 7:00 p.m. 13

Assistance for Earthquake Victims in Nepal (A Request from Rev. Dr. Alan Buckman) As many of us know, on Saturday, April 25, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck 50 miles northwest of Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. As a result, over 6,000 people were killed and many thousands more were left homeless. That was before a second quake, this one of 7.3 magnitude struck earlier this week, somewhat closer to Kathmandu. The death toll from this quake is yet to be determined, but assuredly more have died and many hundreds, perhaps thousands more have been left homeless. During the past few years almost 100 recently arrived Nepali refugees, now living in urban St. Louis, have stepped into the Lutheran community through baptism and confirmation; most 14

of them having left the Hindu religion. Indeed, just this past Thursday, 21 more were baptized and/or confirmed during a special Ascension Day service at Ascension Lutheran Church. Many of these have friends and relatives in Nepal who have been affected by these disasters. Though their resources are rather meager, they have taken up a collection among themselves for the benefit of these numerous friends, relatives, and others as well. Most assuredly, they would feel greatly supported by anyone willing to be part of this effort. Please consider joining them, and others, with a donation. Contributions may be sent to Christian Friends of New Americans at 4019 S. Grand Blvd., St. Louis, MO Checks should be made payable to CFNA with the notation, Nepali Relief. OR, click HERE to be taken to our page for donating online. Thank you for having given this appeal your prayerful consideration. In Christ, Rev. Allan R. Buckman, D. Miss.
