17 Christ's death was our expiation (2 Cor. 5:21; John 1:29; 1 Peter 3:24; Hebrews 1:3). This means that it took away our sins. 2 Cor 5:21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
18 Christ's death reconciled us to God. This means that it made God favorable to us, removing the hostility and separation between us. Rom 5:10 For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life
19 Christ redeemed us (Mrk 10:45; Rev 5:9; Gal 3:13-14; Eph 1:7). He paid the penalty for our sins, as well as securing our deliverance from the pollution of them (Titus 2:14; 1 Cor 6:20).
