Message Notes: Retrain Your Brain Part One Life Church Smyrna Sunday, March 4, 2018 Pastor Christian Salzillo God created us for relationships, therefore we need to be intentional about creating healthy, meaningful relationships with others. 2 Corinthians 7:5-7 NIV For when we came into Macedonia, we had no rest, but we were harassed at every turn conflicts on the outside, fears within. But God, who comforts the downcast, comforted us by the coming of Titus, and not only by his coming but also by the comfort you had given him. He told us about your longing for me, your deep sorrow, your ardent concern for me, so that my joy was greater than ever. 2 Corinthians 7:13 NIV In addition to our own encouragement, we were especially delighted to see how happy Titus was, because his spirit has been refreshed by all of you. Science and Medicine are realizing what the Bible has known all along: It is not good for a person to be alone! Without a solid, bonded relationship, the human soul will become mired in psychological and emotional problems. The soul cannot prosper without being connected to others. No matter what characteristics we possess, or what accomplishments we amass, without solid emotional connectedness, without bonding to God and other humans, we will suffer sickness of the soul. What if the promises of Scripture are meant to be fulfilled in the fellowship and community of smaller, more intimate groups? Acts 5:42 NIV Day after day, in the temple courts and from house to house, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Messiah. We have to retrain our brain to realize that Scripture speaks not just to a corporate gathering, but weekly and even daily smaller, more intimate groups. Hebrews 10:24-25 NIV And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another and all the more as you see the Day approaching. 1 Peter 5:10 ESV And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. James 5:16 NIV Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. Therefore let s be intentional about creating healthy, meaningful relationships with others.
