The Brunch Bunch will meet on Monday, July 23rd at 9:15am at the Bistro. COST FREE MISSION OPPORTUNITIES There are several ways in which you can help support missions that don t cost you anything. Here are a few ideas. The following can be turned in at church: Box Tops for Education Campbell Soup labels Labels for Education Post Foods and Campbell Foods Kid$ Cap$ for Cash from milk bottles Econo Foods grocery receipts Sign up at: Target for rebates to the school of your choice Pick n Save for automatic rebates to either church Neighbor to Neighbor has an urgent need for males, females, and couples to become volunteers for their peer companion and respite care programs. Individuals from Northern Door are currently in need of volunteer matches. Volunteers do not provide medical care or housekeeping; they simply spend time with people, sharing conversation. Sharing one hour of your time each week can make a huge difference in the life of someone else. For more information or to volunteer, please contact Neighbor to Neighbor at (920) MISSION MOMENT For many years it was our routine at Calvary to designate the first Sunday of the month as food pantry Sunday. We are invited to the communion table on the first Sunday of each month. We, in turn, can share our bounty and blessings with our community by bringing a grocery item on that same Sunday for distribution to Northern Door food pantries.

4 SPECIAL THANKS A special thank you to all who contributed to the June Mission of the Month: Red Bird Mission, and special UMC collections for Golden Cross and Peace with Justice Sundays. Zion received thank you notes from Altrusa, Heifer Int., Healthy Water Door County, and Door County Veterans Council. Your generosity is greatly appreciated by those in need. A special thank you to all of you who generously and graciously provide refreshments following our church services. The hosting of the fellowship time is appreciated. We give a special shoutout to the person who makes treats for Christmas Eve and other special occasions. Thanks to all from the Calvary Administrative Council. SCANDIA VILLAGE BIRTHDAY PARTY JULY 26 TH Please join Calvary and Zion as we continue to share our time and talents with the residents of Scandia Village. The party will be held at 2:00pm. For additional information, please contact Joan Vahey at CURRENT CALVARY Current Events meets Tuesdays at 9:00am in the Calvary Library; Warren Burlend, host. All are welcomed. Invitation to the New Testament Bible Study Continues in July This study contains the early Church beliefs about who Jesus was, what He did, and what it means to be a disciple. This is a survey so we will not be able to go into a lot of detail. I am hoping that you will gain an understanding of the first century thinking and be able to understand some basic ideas that can help you as you do your own reading. All of the writings in the N.T. are addressed first to the congregations in the first century, but also God intended them for us in the 21 century. As we understand what they meant, then we can discern what they mean today. We will use the Bible as the text. I will have reading sheets for you to do before we come to class. This five session study will begin on Thursday, June 21 st at 10:00am at Calvary UMC (4650 County E, Egg Harbor, phone ). It will end on July 26th skipping July 5th. There will be a sign-up sheet at both churches, or call the office to register. All sessions will be 90 minutes long. Rev. Morris will be leading the class. Session 3. July 12: Three Pictures of Jesus Session 4. July 19: John s Gospel & the Letters Session 5. July 26: General Letters

6 ZION NEWS The Peninsula Century Spring Classic bike ride was rained on big time. There were really some hearty riders who rode anyway. It was an all morning rain with outbursts of thunder and sudden downpours. Riders are to be commended for going the distance. So, too, the Zion crew that tended to their needs when they stopped, not only for refreshments and rest but to get in from the rain and encouragement to complete the ride. Thank you. The Zion team also got together for the roadside pickup. One side of the road had not yet been mowed. So this was a bit challenging. But the job got done. Thanks to each of you for your dedication. The July church picnic is at Howard and Patty Williamson's home, 7501 South Kangaroo Drive, Baileys Harbor on the 29 th at noon. Reawaken your taste buds with their peach ice cream. Remember the hymn sing July 8 at 5:00pm. Put the fall hymn sing on your calendar for September 9, also at 5:00pm. Geraniums are thriving in the window boxes. Fresh flowers are in the windows inside. All remind us of God's colorful creative world as a gift of blessing. The world has forgotten in its concern with Left and Right that there is an Above and Below. Gale Drake on CBS 1/6/51. The nation that forgets God will not long endure. George Washington. May you reflect on the miracles that brought about the birth of America, and the blessings that are yours. Myrtle Clark MINISTRY OF PRAYER Christ taught us to pray and encourages us to pray unceasingly. Let us continually pray for our loved ones, our friends, our world. Michelle Reinhard is our Prayer Chain leader. You may contact her by teachers@gate.net using Prayer Chain in the subject line. For those without , please call her cell phone year-round or locally at (Easter thru October). Michelle would like to start a phone prayer chain so people who do not have can participate. The information would be the same, but you would receive a call. If you are interested in joining the prayer chain or being included in the phone chain, please let Michelle know so you can be added to this link of faith. CALENDAR ITEMS If you have any events or items you wish to have included in future newsletters, please call or the office for inclusion.

8 Wisconsin Annual Conference 2018 Clergy and laity representing 60,085 members from 455 Wisconsin congregations gathered June at the Marriott Middleton West. This year s Conference marked the 50th anniversary of the union of The Methodist Church and The Evangelical United Brethren Church to form the United Methodist Church. The union took place at the historic Uniting Conference in Dallas, Texas in Bishop Jung s State of the Church address emphasized the theme of this year s Conference, One With Each Other. He read from Ephesians 4:1-6, This is a powerful witness: to be in Christ means to be united in Christ. In our baptism, as in our Holy Communion sharing, we become ONE in Christ, ONE with each other, and ONE in ministry to the world. It is time to set aside our own opinion of what the Church should be, and together, prayerfully, discern what is the will of God for our Church. We cannot achieve this alone, but only together. On Saturday, a presentation was given on the Launch Out! fundraising campaign. Launch Out! is a $6.8 million campaign to fund a dream for the future of the Conference. That total includes $2.92 million for developing new ministries, $2.48 million for mercy and justice ministries, $1.15 million for revitalization of current ministries, and $250,000 to pay for the campaign. The resolution to authorize Launch Out! was voted on and passed Sunday. A review of the 2017 financial results included apportionment receipts totalling $6,629,625. If I heard correctly, an individual member s apportionment was $141. All churches in the Conference paid their apportionments in full. Four percent paid over 100%. The 2019 Conference budget was presented totaling $6, Speakers at this year s Conference included: Opening Worship: Bishop Modesto Mamani, Bishop of Bolivia Bible Study: Mr. Thomas Kemper Ordination Service: Bishop Eduard Khegay, Bishop of Russia Memorial Service: Bishop Linda Lee Retiree Celebration: Rev. Howard Hintzman "50 Years Together" Banquet: Bishop Hee-Soo Jung, Bishop Linda Lee, Bishop Donald Ott I attended the Conference with Howard Williamson. Both Calvary and Zion received certificates for giving faithfully 100% to the Apportionment Covenant in Thank you cards were also received for Calvary and Zion s Ingathering donation. Best Regards, Don Garber
