This is true from universities to prochil grde schools nd socil gencies to churches like ours. It shouldn t be surprising then tht Ctholic prishes with elementry schools re most successful when their ongoing cpitl cmpigns encourge volunteer opportunities which invite members to use their God-given tlents to enhnce their surroundings nd dvnce their gols. We cn be one of those vibrnt prishes. As pstor, I hve served in prishes tht understnd this stewrdship mentlity nd those tht don t; for some it s nturl mode of opertion while for others it s foreign concept. Those tht dopt this spiritulity tend to be much more lively, interesting, fithful to their mission, nd successful in crrying out the Gospel mndte. Stewrdship, essentilly, is wy of living tht embrces Jesus teching tht everything we possess is entrusted to us by God to use for His greter glory. Mny Sint Chrles Borromeo prishioners re embrcing this spiritulity. The Clled & Gifted progrm nd our smll Christin communities re pthwys to help us in this endevor. I hve witnessed recently wht hs existed here for yers. Among the tremendous exmples of stewrdship re Mike nd Debbie McDniel who, two yers go, gve their time nd tlent to help rehb the rectory. Others joined in, including Louie Petit, who nerly lost n eye in the process, nd Jeff Swift, who nerly lost finger, nd Dick Sheetz, whose phenomenl skills enhnced the project until he, too, required surgery. In spite of set-bcks, these home improvement heroes previled nd mny other prishioners were inspired to jump in nd help where they could. For the beutifiction of Borromeo Hll, we cn thnk Rit Zimmermn nd Mrin Winfrey who, in recent months, hve spent countless hours pinting. Bill nd Frn Gillespie hve volunteered in invluble wys within our school for mny yers helping children lern nd fixing nything tht needs fixed. Tom Mckin nd Jim Weyruch pinted numerous clssrooms nd built shelves for our erly childhood center in recent weeks. Frnk Mrott hs lso donted his pinting tlents to our school. Menwhile, Eline Moore hs given her grdening skills to beutify our grounds. Our Knights of Columbus lwn cre crew for the pst sixteen yers hs wonderfully cred for our grounds in every seson; Unfortuntely, the ging process hs hit nd they re no longer ble to crry out this ministry. Some re willing to continue if SCB volunteers step up to help; if not, we will need to hire out. I m hppy to report tht 219 SCB households mde contribution to this yer s diocesn Annul Ctholic Appel (ACA) compred to 189 lst yer, which ws lso up from the yer before tht. We estimte tht there re pproximtely 1,000 households in our prish. Though only 244 returned pledge crds this pst yer to help us set our prish budget, 638 households mde contribution, s well s 79 others tht re not registered. Menwhile our school is pying meticulous ttention to expenditures nd income s we seek to operte t sustinble level. As our construction project moves forwrd, we re witnessing progress from week to week. We cn lso be proud of other cpitl improvements in recent yers, including new roofs nd windows. With help from Ctholic friends from other prishes, we hve pid for these improvements tht will, no doubt, motivte us to rech our cmpign gol for the new construction, s we re still bout $400,000 short of the overll cost to complete the project. I hve enjoyed our under construction socil gtherings nd m grteful for ll of you tht hve mde scrifices for it to ctully hppen. If you hve not yet contributed to the cpitl cmpign, we will grciously welcome your contribution. According to the work schedule, the prish office will be completed in October while the gthering spce will be redy for occupncy by Christms. Tht troublesome step under the crport cnopy leding into our vestibule will be gone this utumn s the prking lot is grded for the new entrywy. And the elevtor will soon be relity.
