David Ruby The Box of Joy program, the Christian Service and Responsibility's (CSR) annual Catholic Christmas gift campaign got off to a great start. Mrs. Moser's fourth grade Faith Formation Class welcomed CSR member Kristy Champeau-Nelson to share the goals of the program. They learned that through packing a simple box with toys, crafts, hygiene items and the like, they could have both a material and spiritual impact on the poor in developing countries. Each child created a Christmas Card with information about themselves, to share with the recipients of the boxes. Spreading Christmas joy and the story of Christmas-the Good News of God's love-with children worldwide. VINCENT DE PAUL-In the Gospel today, Jesus tells us: You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind and with all your strength and you shall love your neighbor as yourself. Through your gift to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul you can show your love for our Lord and your love of your neighbor who is hungry, hopeless, alone and frightened. Please help us help others. PHISHING-This is an internet term used for a type of scam I got caught in. Phishing is when someone gets into a person's computer address book. They then send out many messages from those addresses requesting something from those people. Last week I received a message from (Rev Dave Ruby@gmail.com) which asked me for a favor. Knowing Fr. Dave was on vacation, I asked what he needed and agreed to get (3) I-tunes Cards for a $100 each. The message said it was for a friend in the hospital with Cancer. The message then asked I text a picture, for the code on the cards, to the Faith Formation It seems as if our busy summer days are just behind us and we are already planning for our Advent season. Another busy time as we celebrate Thanksgiving and plan for Christmas. Yet, advent is really supposed to be a reflective time, a waiting time and a time for joy as we anticipate the coming of Jesus into our world and into our lives. The Adult Faith Formation Committee invites you to join a Small Group to have some time to do just that. We will be using the Advent and Christmas edition of the Bridges to Contemplative Living Series. This series gently leads participants on a journey toward personal spiritual transformation and a more contemplative and peace filled life. Just what we need in our busy world! Watch this space for more information on times and locations for these groups. If you have hesitated to join a group, you might just want to give it a try. Whether you are thinking about joining a small group or not, there are many books out there to help us on our Discipleship journey. They can be ordered through the publisher or on Amazon. Within 20 minutes, I received another request for another 3 $100 cards. At this point, I knew I've been had. I sent a proper back thanking them for taking my money. The next day I reported it to the Sheriff's Dept.. The Department said some people have been taken for a lot more money than the $300 I lost. I asked that they share this incident with the public so others learn from my mistake and this why I'm sharing it with you. Even when things look right they can still be wrong. Check it out first. It's often linked to a buildup of pressure inside your eye. Glaucoma tends to be inherited and may not show up until later in life. The increased pressure, called intraocular pressure, can damage the optic nerve, which transmits images to your brain. If the damage continues, glaucoma can lead to permanent vision loss. Without treatment, glaucoma can cause total permanent blindness within a few years. Whether you develop glaucoma depends on the level of pressure your optic nerve can tolerate without being damaged. This level is different for each person. That s why a comprehensive dilated eye exam is very important. It can help your eye doctor determine what level of eye pressure is normal for you. Most people with glaucoma have no early symptoms or pain. You need to see your eye doctor regularly so he/she can diagnose and treat glaucoma before long-term visual loss happens. If you re over age 40 and have a family history of the disease, you should get a complete eye exam from an eye doctor every 1 to 2 years. If you have health problems like diabetes or a family history of glaucoma or are at risk for other eye diseases, you may need to go more often. Treatment includes lowering the eye s pressure by fluid drainage and medication and continued follow-up with your eye doctor, as glaucoma is a life-long condition. At the next Community Health information Program (CHIP) on November 4 at 4:00 pm at First Baptist Church in Sister Bay, Dr. Paul Filar, a board certified behavioral optometrist from Peninsula Vision Care in Sturgeon Bay, will give an in-depth presentation on GLAUCOMA. And then watch how quickly they transform into the greatest, truest version of themselves. When one feels seen and appreciated in their own essence, one is instantly empowered. Wes Angelozzi I can t even count the number of people who have loved me exactly as I am at different times throughout my life. At some points, they were great times when it s easy to love and others were dark times when it s harder to love. But love is love. Love allows that person to be themselves and walk through whatever it is they are going through with confidence, trust and the assurance that love is present. As Missionary Disciples we are called to do exactly that: Love someone. Walk with them. Meet them where they are at. Listen. Be quiet. Encourage. Preaching at or telling someone what they re doing is wrong, doesn t bring people closer together but instead creates defense walls. We need to build that trust and love them as they are. We all have faults and sins and no sin is greater than another. Sin is sin. By walking with one another and building that trust, it opens up room for conversation and the potential of sharing Jesus with others. Discover Jesus. We discover Jesus in relationships. In love. In each other. Jesus is present in each person and it is through our relationships with one another that we meet Christ in a tangible way. How beautiful it is when we remember and recognize that Christ is in each person. When we walk with each other they can see and meet Jesus, too. Discover Jesus. Follow Jesus. Share Jesus. Worship Jesus. Let s love someone and allow Jesus to work in each of us so one may discover Jesus. Adult Initiation The Catholic Church is always enriched whenever any adult chooses to be Catholic. Adults wishing to be baptized, or baptized adults wishing to be confirmed, the RCIA program is available. Reconciliation God s great mercy is something to be celebrated. Ritually we Catholics experience God s unconditional love in the sacrament of reconciliation. Our pastor is available for this sacrament on the 1st Thursday of the month from 5:00-6:00 pm at our Baileys Harbor site (except holidays) and by appointment. Sacrament of Matrimony A faith-filled wedding is a joyful time for the couple and the parish. Our parish wants to have all weddings here be the best possible. The couple must meet with the pastor before a date can be reserved. Please contact the parish office at least 12 months in advance to begin preparation. Ministry to the Sick Everyone needs extra compassion and care when his or her health is not at its best. As a parish, we try to meet that need. Communal anointing Masses take place twice yearly, with individual anointing done when requested. Parishioners in the hospital, nursing home or other institution are encouraged to notify the office to arrange for visits or communion.
