WELCOME TO THE ASSOCIATION OF CATHEDRAL VOLUNTARY CHOIRS We re delighted to welcome choirs from Carlisle, Chichester, Derby, Ely, Exeter, Hereford, Lichfield, Rochester, Wells and Worcester Cathedrals as they join Guildford Cathedral Singers for their Festival Weekend. SUNDAY SCHOOL takes place in the Library for those aged There is a DIY crèche in the Exhibition Room (next to the Library) for under 3s. HYMN BOOKS For services in the Nave, hymn books and Books of Common Prayer can be found behind the kneeler on the seat in front of you. COFFEE AND FELLOWSHIP Coffee and tea and other refreshments available at the back of Seasons after the Eucharist. No need to queue. GIVING Regular worshippers are asked to join the Planned Giving Scheme. For more information please ask a Steward. Visitors and UK taxpayers are asked to use the Gift Aid envelope for their offering towards the work and worship of the Cathedral. Please complete the details on the envelope to enable us to claim back the tax as Gift Aid. The Association of Cathedral Voluntary Choirs (ACVC) It s a delight to welcome more than 90 singers from the Cathedral voluntary choirs of Carlisle, Chichester, Derby, Ely, Exeter, Hereford, Lichfield, Rochester, Wells and Worcester for their Festival Weekend. They sang Choral Evensong last night and are singing our Choral Eucharist this morning. Those who can stay will join our Cathedral Singers to sing Evensong this evening. It s a delight to welcome them all. Half term family Kite Making Workshop - Wednesday 30 May 10am All are welcome to a Free Activity Day for children of all ages and their parents and carers. There will be a variety of crafts reflecting our Pentecost theme, including kite making and a treasure hunt in the Nave. Bring a picnic and fly your kite. 5 David Stubbings Many of you will remember David Stubbings who until recently was a long term Server here. He is marrying Hannah Breeze next Saturday at St Bueno's church Berriew near Welshpool. We send our congratulations and blessings to them at this happy occasion. Wholeness and Healing - Saturday 2 June Since the early days of the Church, human touch and anointing with oil have played an important role in worship and pastoral care, symbolising both comfort and healing. The next Eucharist of Wholeness and Healing is Saturday 2 June. You may like prayer for yourself or for another. There is no need to say what the need is God knows our hearts. All are welcome. The service is in the Lady Chapel and begins at 9.00am and lasts about 40 minutes. Prayer for Healing with anointing Next Sunday 3 June Prayer, laying on of hands and anointing is offered during the Cathedral Eucharist next Sunday 3 June. Please go to the Regimental Chapel immediately after receiving Communion. You may want prayer for healing for yourself or another person or you may have some other concern for which you would appreciate prayer. Anyone with any request is welcome. The Cathedral Choir and Holy Trinity Choir - Sunday 3 June 6pm We look forward to welcoming the boys, girls and adults of the choir of Holy Trinity Church, Guildford, together with their musical directors as they join our boys, girls and Lay clerks to sing Choral Evensong. This partnership takes place annually and alternates between Holy Trinity and here. It would be wonderful to have many of the cathedral congregation here to offer warm hospitality to our friends from Holy Trinity. Contact Lisa Hatherall for more information or friends@guildford-cathedral.org Pilgrims to Walsingham 15 to17 June A group of pilgrims from the Cathedral and St Nicolas, Guildford, will be going to the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham on June led by Canon Andrew Bishop. Please do remember them in your prayers, and please be assured of their prayers for all at the Cathedral and the worship, ministry and mission offered here. On Sunday 10 June some of the pilgrims will be meeting and going to the Lady Chapel at around 1545 to pray the Mysteries of Light of the Rosary the Baptism of Christ, the Wedding at Cana, the Preaching of the Kingdom of God,

6 the Transfiguration and the Institution of the Eucharist. If you feel intrigued or unfamiliar with the use of the Rosary do come along to join Canon Andrew and the pilgrims and experience it for yourself. For more information please contact Canon Andrew. God & The Big Bang (GATBB) Wednesday 4 July 7 to 9pm Following the highly successful event at Guildford Cathedral in January, the GATBB team from Manchester Cathedral will be returning for an engaging evening event on science and faith. Offering a keynote talk, discussions with their team of science-faith communicators, and a Q&A session, the event will include going back to the Big Bang, trying out mind boggling illusions with a science magician, and exploring how Artificial Intelligence shapes our world today. The evening is suitable for anyone with an interest in science, philosophy and debate, particularly those pursuing further studies and interested in the origins of our world. Tickets 10, (students 5), booking essential via the cathedral box office Fair Trade An update from Sue Howland The Fair Trade stall did exceptionally well throughout the day of Cathedral celebrations on Sunday 13 May after which a donation was made to Christian Aid. Donations for homemade marmalade (made with Fairtrade sugar) now exceed All donations are given to the Cathedral. Thank you for your continued support. (and many thanks to Sue and her dedicated team! Ed) Canon Andrew Bishop Canon Andrew will be Licensed as Priest-in-Charge of Croydon Minster on Monday 3 September at 8.00pm. We are planning to organise a coach from the Cathedral to Croydon for the service. Please sign the sheet on the Welcome Desk if you would like to book a place on the coach. Andrew s final service at the Cathedral will be the Cathedral Eucharist on Sunday 15 July. There will be refreshments and a presentation after the service. We will be collecting donations towards a thank-you gift for Andrew and his family from next Sunday 3 June. If you would like to contribute please bring your donation in a sealed envelope and post it into the Cathedral Office or leave with the Stewards on a Sunday. Could you join our Schools and Family Volunteers team? Every year the Cathedral welcomes hundreds of children from schools across the diocese to take part in lively seasonal workshops to help them learn about Advent, Lent, Easter and Pentecost and it also provides special sessions, such as celebrating the centenary of World War 1. The schools team also runs our popular family fun days during the holidays to encourage young visitors to engage with our community in a Christian setting. We are currently seeking new people to join our team of wonderful volunteers who lead teaching sessions, assist with crafts, help with

7 preparing resources and with refreshments, particularly in the autumn term. If you would like to find out more please contact We would love to tell you more. Cathedral's Coins Scheme We welcome donations of any foreign coins or notes, whether currency or collections, of any age and any country, to help with fundraising. Help us add to our total of 17,095. Gifts may be left with the Office or Sacristy. Also, if you intend to travel abroad, ask whether the Scheme can help with currency for your destination. Many thanks. Cathedral Sound System The priorities remain the procurement of equipment and every effort is being made to ensure these are delivered and set to work as soon as possible. In the meantime, if you experience difficulty with the system during any service please annotate the Cathedral plans at the back of the Nave placed there for this purpose.
