Even with the best of intentions, we often face challenges fulfilling our promises to change. And yet, we should remain hopeful and not discouraged. Consider Jesus response to the scribe in Mark 12:28-34 and the meditation that follows which comes from the March, 2018, edition of The Word Among Us.. One of the scribes came to Jesus and asked him, "Which is the first of all the commandments?"jesus replied, "The first is this: Hear, O Israel! The Lord our God is Lord alone! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. The second is this: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these." The scribe said to him, "Well said, teacher. You are right in saying, He is One and there is no other than he. And to love him with all your heart, with all your understanding, with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is worth more than all burnt offerings and sacrifices."and when Jesus saw that he answered with understanding, he said to him, "You are not far from the Kingdom of God."And no one dared to ask him any more questions. (Mark 12:28-34) You are not far from the Kingdom of God. (Mark 12:34). Wouldn t it be wonderful to hear Jesus say these words to you? Imagine how heartening it would be to hear that, even as you stumble through life, God affirms his belief in you. Wouldn t you love hearing him tell you that you are on the right path? An encouraging word can be so uplifting precisely because of our all too human tendency to focus on the negative. We may be painfully aware of our sins or discouraged by our mistakes. We may eve doubt that God is pleased with us. The kingdom can seem so far out of our reach! But that s not God s message to you! His love for you is perfect and constant. Your imperfections cannot change that. So instead of feeling discouraged in the face of your failures and missteps, try to be patient with yourself. Consider these words from St. Francis de Sales: Have patience with all things but first with yourself. Never confuse your mistakes with your value as a human being. You are a perfectly valuable, creative, worthwhile person simply because you exist. And no amount of triumphs or tribulations can ever change that. Continued on page 3 WHO AM I TO JUDGE? Page 3

TAKE A STAND FOR LIFE From February 14 to March 25, our community will take part in 40 Days for Life a groundbreaking, coordinated international mobilization. We pray that, with God s help, this will mark the beginning of the end of abortion in our city and beyond. You re invited to join other Christians for 40 days of prayer and fasting for an end to abortion. You re also invited to stand and peacefully pray during a 40-day vigil in the public right-of-way outside Planned Parenthood at 701 San Mateo NE. NOTES FROM THE PASTOR Continued from page 1 When memories of past mistakes or current failures loom large, remember that you can draw near to Christ because he has drawn near to you and has never left your side. Let Jesus assure you that you are not far from his kingdom. In fact, every step of obedience, faith, and trust brings you one step closer. You are not far from the Kingdom of God. Jesus spoke these words to a scribe who had not yet chosen to follow him. But that didn t stop Jesus from commending the man s faith. Jesus could tell that the scribe was on the right track, and just needed a little more encouragement to keep him moving forward. How much more encouraging will Jesus be to you, who already believe in him? How much more will he say that he is pleased with you? Jesus is infinitely patient with you. The least you can do is be just a little patient with yourself. Our Lady of Fatima Adult Faith Formation Series Journey with us as we grow in our Catholic Faith Coming Soon to Adult Formation: Who Am I To Judge? From Thursday, April 12 th through Thursday, May 31 st, Our Lady of Fatima Parish will present an 8-part series by Dr. Edward Sri entitled Who Am I to Judge? Combining video presentation, group discussions, and a study guide, this series presents the one key in effectively responding to the moral relativism of our time: A Catholic moral worldview. Moral relativism denies that there are absolutes in matters of faith, truth, and morality. Everything is relative what is true for me is not necessarily true for you, and so on. In denying the existence of absolute truth, one is essentially denying the existence of God, for God is perfect truth and God is eternal and constant never changing. Learn how Catholic morality is all about love, how making a judgment is not judging a person s soul, and how, in the words of Pope Francis, relativism wounds people and is the spiritual poverty of our times. The eight weekly sessions will be held on Thursdays in Fatima-Gallagher Hall, with a morning session offered from 10:00 am to 11:30 am, and an evening session offered from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm. Stations of the Cross and Lenten Soup Suppers At 5:30 pm on Friday evenings during Lent (except Good Friday) the parish will be hosting a simple meatless Soup Supper consisting of soup, bread and butter, and beverage. A different ministry of the parish will prepare the soups each week. The soup suppers will be held in Fatima-Gallagher Hall. There is no charge for the meal. The meal will be followed by praying of the Stations of the Cross in the church at 7:00 pm. Everyone is invited to participate. Novena of Divine Mercy The Novena of Divine Mercy begins on Good Friday (March 30 th ) and ends on the Saturday of the Octave of Easter (April 7 th ). The novena will be prayed in the church at 3:00 pm each day during this period. ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT COME AND SPEND AN HOUR IN PRAYER. The Active Adults group also sponsors field trips. Altar Servers Coordinator: Theresa Irvin A great opportunity for 4th graders and above to serve at the Celebration of the Eucharist. High school and college age parishioners are especially encouraged to serve. Blessed Mother Rosary Guild Coordinator: Jahna Wilmott The Guild handcrafts rosaries for free distribution to various ministries world-wide in order to promote Our Lady s cause for devotion to her son, Jesus Christ, and world peace. Choir Coordinator: Consuelo Chavez OFS Opportunities are for adults and children to lead the people in joyful worship by singing and playing musical instruments. Coffee and Donuts Coordinator: Susan Koller Facilitate fellowship by helping to serve coffee, donuts and burritos after the 7:30 AM and 10 AM Masses on Sundays. Eucharistic Ministers and Lectors and Commentators Coordinator: Teresa Bennett As extraordinary ministers of the Holy Eucharist you can distribute Holy Communion during Mass or Proclaim the Word of God and introduce the Mass intentions and announcements. Holy Name Society President: Collin Martinez The Society purpose is to gives public devotion and honor to the Holy Name of Jesus, and provide for the spiritual growth and enrichment of the men of the parish 18 years of age and older. A Corporate Mass is held at 10 AM the third Sunday of each month and a meeting follows. CATHOLIC CHRISTIAN DOCTRINE INSTRUCTION (CCD) for Kindergarten through 7th Grades Classes are on Wednesdays during the school year from 3:45 5:30 PM. CRE: Mrs. Bernadette Chavez CONFIRMATION CRE: Mr. John Varney A two-year program of catechesis and preparation to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation that is open to students in grades 8 through 12 who have been Baptized and have received First Communion. The first year Pre-Confirmation class is for 8 th graders as well as any older students who have not completed it. The second year Confirmation Prep class is for students in grades 9 thru 12. RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION FOR ADULTS (RCIA)- CRE: Kathy O Neill This is a program for individuals interested in becoming Catholic and receiving the sacraments of initiation: Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation. Birthright Coordinator: Odelia Beach Office Helps any girl or woman regardless of age, race, creed, marital or economic status, who feels distressed by a pregnancy, allowing her to ask questions and explore her options without pressure and without being judged. Legion of Mary Coordinator: Frances Holmes This is an international organization ministering to the spiritual needs of the parish community. Ministry of Care/Outreach- Coordinator: Mary Ann Lopez The home-bound Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion bring the Body of Christ to the parishioners who cannot attend the Celebration of the Eucharist. St. Vincent de Paul President: Margaret M. M. Trace Members grow spiritually through service to people in need and are dedicated to helping with food, utilities and rent. They must participate in a Weekend for Engaged Couples and attend an introductory class in Natural Family Planning. SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM-The Sacrament of Baptism for infants is offered the third Sunday of the month after the 12:00 PM Mass. Arrangements are to be made in person at the parish office. A birth certificate is required. Parents and godparents must attend a Baptism class that is offered the first Wednesday of the month at 7:00 PM in Room 1 of Fatima-Gallagher Hall. Godparents must be at least 16 years old, confirmed and actively practicing their Catholic faith. If Godparents are married, they must be married according to the norms of the Catholic Church.
