2 Page Two St. Theodore s Church, Rochester, New York There are many components to youth ministry and it is our hope to provide an opportunity for all parish youth to get involved. We have a junior high program for grades 6-8 and a senior high program for grades Some of the components we will offer for both programs will be Spiritual to reflect on Christian values and morals, Social to have a chance to 'hang out' with friends in a safe and friendly environment and Service to offer opportunities to help others in our parish and community, especially those less fortunate than us. UPCOMING YOUTH GATHERINGS Grades 6-8: Friday, November 11, 7:00-9:00 p.m. Grades 9-12: Sunday, November 13, 12:00-2:00 p.m. Tweens and teens are invited to "hang out" with their friends, have fun, share their faith and of course, have food! If you haven't seen our youth rooms before, you won't want to miss this open house and if you have been here before, we hope you will join us again. You will get a chance to check out the Recreation Room with a ping pong table, air hockey and foosball tables, and our Gathering Room with sofas and chairs to sit and talk to your friends and DDR (dance, dance revolution) or board games. Bring your friends! We will also decide on our first social event for the year. Parent volunteers are needed to help chaperone these gatherings. Please support this event when you stop by to vote or if you do not vote at St. Theodore s just stop in and get a cup of coffee and some goodies. You will not find a better range of delicious sweets. If you are not signed up as one of our regular bakers and would like to whip up something for our bake sale, it would be appreciated. All bakers, please label your baked goods especially if they contain nuts, and drop off your creations on Monday, November 7, in the parish life center, between 9 AM and 4 PM, or between 6 PM and 7 PM inside the entrance to the Parish Hall. Thank You. SAVE OUR SELVES DAILY CASH RAFFLE December 1, March 31, 2017 Cash prizes are the highlight of our raffle. You have a chance to win over $4000 in cash prizes. It s easy to win: All you have to do is complete your ticket, donate $20 for each ticket, send in your donation, or drop it in the Sunday collection, or drop it off at the Parish Life Center, then sit back and see if you are a winner. You do not have to be present to win. How it works: A winner is drawn for each of the 121 days beginning December 1 through March 31. After each drawing, the winning ticket will be put back in the tumbler for a chance to win again. You are eligible to win 122 times. How will I know if I win?: You ll find a check in the mailbox. Winners will be sent their check on a weekly basis and winners will be published in our weekly bulletin. Can I buy a ticket anytime during the four months?: Yes, but with each day that passes, you will miss a chance to win that daily prize. A great gift: The Daily Cash Raffle ticket is the perfect gift for anyone in your life. It s a great gift for grandparents, neighbors, hard to buy for family and friends, paper-carriers, hairdressers, and many more. You can obtain a Gift Card to give, by stopping in the Parish Life Center. There are now four $125 prizes, one each month, drawn on the 15 th of the month, plus $50 prizes each Saturday and Sunday, and $25 each weekday. 3 Page Three St. Theodore s Church, Rochester, New York November 6, 2016 FOOD CUPBOARD NEWS FOOD CUPBOARD Thanksgiving Food Drive Our Turkey Baskets are at the entrances of church and we are asking everyone to take a leaf or two to help us provide for those in need during the Thanksgiving Holidays. NEEDED ITEM OF THE WEEK Take a Leaf or Two ALSO WE ARE ALSO IN NEED OF: Plastic Grocery Bags Brown Paper Grocery Bags NEW GAS STOVE FOR PARISH HALL KITCHEN Our present kitchen stove has given great service over these many years, but there is little question it now needs to be replaced. We would like to raise money to purchase a new commercial gas stove with two ovens and ten burners. We know it is a substantial investment but one that is needed, to continue to have so many events here at St. Theodore s, such as our pasta dinner, pancake breakfasts, St. Joseph s Table, Breakfast with Santa, Youth Potluck Dinner, and use by our Martha Ministry, to name a few. So, all proceeds from our Lights of Love will go directly to a fund for the purchase of a new stove. CHRISTMAS CHOIR 2016 The music ministry is in need of singers for our Christmas Eve Masses on December 24 at 5:30 and 10:30. We especially need bass, tenor & alto voices. Rehearsals will be on Wednesday evenings from 8:00 to 9:00 on November 30, December 14, & 21 and on Sunday, December 4 at 1:00 p.m. Practice CDs will be available to aid in learning the music. Please contact Rita Manners at or manners@dor.org. MEN'S CLUB The Men s Club will meet on Monday, November 7, at 6:45 pm in the north end of the school. Park in the west parking lot. All men of the parish are welcome to join us. Come for some hot pasta, meatballs, etc. and some good conversation. THEO S CLOSET URGENT NEWS Theo s closet is in urgent need of winter clothing. Our inventory of winter must haves is dangerously low. We need the following items for men, women, & kids; coats, boots (we have none), sweaters, pants (especially men s), all plus size clothing and socks. Please get the word out to your family and friends. With the cold weather approaching, we need to get Theo s closet ready for the winter. Our clients depend on us! THEODORE S CHURCH FOURTH ANNUAL LIGHTS OF LOVE TREE Light the season by purchasing a light(s) on our Lights of Love Tree to remember or honor our loved ones, both living and deceased. A contribution of $5 per dedication will illuminate one of the lights on the Lights of Love Tree, that will be located outside the main entrance to church. The lights will shine brightly every night throughout the Christmas Season, December 12 until January 8, as a symbol of love. Our special tree lighting ceremony will be held on Monday, December 12 at 7 PM beginning in church and proceeding outside for the blessing and lighting of the tree. Following the ceremony there will be a cookie reception in the library. Please join us for this very special evening of reflection and remembrance. Forms are available in the back of church. All forms need to be in by Monday, November 21 to be included in the program. All proceeds will go towards the purchase of a new gas stove for the parish hall kitchen. NATIONAL VOCATION AWARENESS WEEK November 6-12, 2016 I would like to ask you: have you sometimes heard the Lord s voice, in a desire, in a worry, did he invite you to follow him more closely? Father Simeon Gallagher is coming to present a Parish Retreat at St. Theodore's! He will preach at the Masses on Saturday and Sunday, December 3 and 4. The retreat will be Monday - Thursday at 7 PM. He will also speak after the 8:30 AM Mass. THIS RETREAT WILL BE A GREAT WAY TO PREPARE SPIRITUALLY FOR CHRISTMAS.
