PRE BAPTISMAL CLASSES Arrangements will be made to register for class after consulting with Deacon Bill Moser (215) SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION Saturdays: 4:00-4:45 PM Eve of Holy Days: 4:00-4:45 PM Eve of First Fridays: After Noon Mass Only SACRAMENT OF MATRIMONY Weddings may be scheduled for Saturdays at 11:00AM, 1:00PM or 3:00PM in the Upper Church; and at 2:00PM in the Lower Church. Couples intending marriage are asked to contact our Parish Priest at least six months prior to the intended date of marriage. Participating in a Marriage Preparation Program is a requisite for the reception of this holy sacrament. SACRAMENT OF ANOINTING OF THE SICK In case of serious illness, please contact one of our parish priests. We ask half of this, or 5% for your Parish Church. From the desk of Fr. Joe The Feast of Our Lady of The Rosary On Wednesday morning, October 7th, I attended the school Mass at Saint Cecilia parish. It was the Feast of Our Lady of The Rosary. Now this is not one of the major Marian Feasts of the Liturgical Year but it was nice to celebrate it with the school children. Just before the Mass began, two students gave an introduction in which they spoke of the significance of praying the rosary every day. They quoted Our Blessed Mother from her appearances at Fatima where she told the children to pray the rosary every day. In fact, the message was for everyone to pray the rosary every day, not just the children. There are many unknown graces that come from this prayer. I have admitted this before, I try to be faithful to the rosary every day but I sometimes don't make it. For the most part, my rosary is in my pocket all the time and I am very aware when it is not. The place that I find it easiest to pray the rosary is at the bedside of a sick or dying person. It is a way that I can be present to the person and quietly pray for him or her. I can think of several of our parishioners and even my own Aunt where I just was able to pray the rosary at the bedside. If it is possible, I like to use that person's rosary as I pray it for them. When my Aunt was dying and all my cousins were in the room, I silently prayed the rosary using her beads. However, at a certain point my cousin asked for them back because he did not want her the leave this life without her beads in her hand. I thought that was a beautiful thing my cousin did for his mother. Many people feel that the rosary is old fashioned. I think it is a beautiful form of prayer. We have a good number of people who stay after the Noon Mass every day and pray the rosary together. Personally, I like to pray it silently. Whatever way you like to pray, out loud or silently, I encourage you to make the rosary a part of your daily prayer life. Our Lady of the Rosary, Pray for us! As devout and observant as they were, our early fathers and mothers in faith could not have been all that different from us. Maybe they looked the other way when the grocer threw an extra fig in the shopping basket, or had a wandering eye for the widow next door, or had a taste for too much ale, or didn t let the truth get in the way of a good story. First of all, there was the Eucharist. The words are familiar: This is the cup of my blood, poured out for the forgiveness of sin. Especially by participating in Communion from the cup, forgiveness was achieved. Eucharist was, and remains, the sacrament of reconciliation par excellence, the sign and source of unity with Christ. There were other helps along the way: fraternal correction, or the course corrections we offer one another in love, prayer, fasting, works of mercy. St. Augustine listed endurance of suffering, forgiveness of insults, and added the praying of the Lord s Prayer in the liturgy. He felt that the public praying of the Our Father on Sunday and its daily use in private prayer was an essential remedy and the reason why everyone was not a candidate for canonical penance. Inherited from Augustine s practice, the Lord s Prayer in our Communion Rite still has the same purpose, preparing us for receiving and becoming the Body of Christ.
