THE HIGHLIGHTS OF THE LITURGICAL SEASON ADVENT (from the Latin word adventus meaning coming ) a time of expectant waiting and preparation for the celebration of the Nativity of Jesus at Christmas. It is the beginning of the liturgical year. The theme in this particular season is The Lord is coming. Prepare the way of the Lord! The liturgical color is violet. Violet is a subdued color which signifies humility, penitence/repentance, preparation and hope. It used to be considered the Royal color reserved for the king. People in the villages and towns were made aware of the coming of the king by the display along the main roads of violet banners and flaglets. Traditionally, four violet colored candles (one candle every Sunday) are lighted. CHRISTMAS (Latin, Christe missa est, which literally means Christ has been sent ). The theme: Rejoice! The King has come! The color is white or gold and gold are colors of joy, colors of rejoicing and festivity. It symbolizes the dawn of hope and the coming of the true light. God in his goodness and mercy wrought the way of reconciliation, redemption and salvation of the world by sending his begotten Son, the Emmanuel. Related symbols: The manger the dirtiest place with unpleasant odor because of the dung and urine of animals. It symbolizes the sinful state of man and the world. Jesus was born for the sinners and the lost, not for the righteous. He came not to condemn but to redeem. It also symbolizes that Jesus is truly the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.

Bethlehem - Its root word is beth and lehem which means House of Bread. Jesus is the true bread of life. Shepherds In the Gospel according to Luke, the shepherds were the first visitors of the newly born babe. It signifies that Jesus is the Shepherd of shepherds. In Ezekiel 34, rulers of Israel are also called shepherd of Israel. The baby born in the manger is the King of kings and Lord of lords (Rev.19:16). Angels are considered God s messenger. The baby born is the greatest messenger who is both the herald and the message (logos) of God. EPIPHANY From Greek epiphainein reveal. Old French epiphanie and ecclesiastical Latin epiphania, meaning vision of God, which falls on January 6, is a Christian feast day that celebrates the revelation of God the Son as a human being in Jesus Christ even to the Gentile world. The color is White symbolizing a shining ray of light. The center of the sun is called corona. Nobody has ever seen the corona of the sun with his naked eye, yet through its rays we know the presence of the sun. In the Nicene Creed we declare that Jesus is the Light from light and True God from True God. Related symbols: Gold is the usual gift given to a king. One of the magi recognized the baby as a king. This is the reason why the visitors went directly to the palace of Herod and asked: Where is he who has been king of the Jews? (Mt. 2:2). Incense used as a symbol of offering to God. One of the magi recognized the baby as the Son of God. Myrrh is a gum resin with a sweet smell and a bitter taste perfume extracted from the bark of trees genus Gommiphora, family Burseraceae, in E. Africa and Arabia. It contains anesthetic substance compound that renders loss of normal perception of pain (see mark 15:23). One of the magi recognized the baby as a sacrificial offering.

EPIPHANY SEASON The color for the rest of the Epiphany season is green. means life, active and fruitful. Jesus is on the move in pursuit of his mission beginning at his baptism, calling people to join his cause in establishing God s Kingdom, teaching them to become effective fishers of people, performing miracles and healing, and on the last Sunday, revealed himself in a transfiguration event as the fulfiller and the fulfillment of the Law (represented by Moses) and the teachings of the prophets (represented by Elijah). God the Father revealed Jesus as the only authority in heaven and on earth: This is my well beloved Son in whom I am well pleased. Listen to him (Mt. 17:5). LENTEN SEASON is known as Quarisma (40 days), counting from Ash Wednesday to Palm Sunday, commemorating the 40 days fasting of Jesus in the wilderness before the beginning of his public ministry. Just like Advent, the color is Violet with the same implication humility, penitence and repentance. It is also the preparation for the coming of the King which waiting culminates in Palm Sunday, the triumphal entry of the King of kings. The traditional purpose of Lent is the preparation of the believer through prayer, repentance, almsgiving and self-denial. It is introduced by Ash Wednesday with the theme: Remember O man that you came from dust and to dust you shall return with the imposition of ashes on the forehead. This is to put us back to a realization of our humble beginning lest we become boastful and proud. This is to check our life s focus lest we become so engrossed with seeking for material things rather than seeking first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and laying up treasures on earth rather than in heaven. What will benefit a man if he gains the whole world but loses his own soul? (Mt. 17:26).

PALM SUNDAY also known as the Triumphal Entry of Jesus to Jerusalem. The color is Red. Red symbolizes bravery and blood or sacrifice. Jesus knew he was going to die and even forecasted his death a couple of times. Yet he braved it. He entered Jerusalem as King of the Jews (INRI - Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum ) which truth he did not deny before Pontius Pilate. The throng met him with songs of alleluiahs and hosannas waving in the air palms and branches of olives. Related symbols: 1. PALMS and branches of olives are symbols of victory. In the old coins of Rome is found the inscription of palms. In the old tradition on Christian burial, the dead held a palm representing victory over death. Holding and waving of palms is in a way a proclamation that Jesus is our only king. In quandary situations we should opt to obey God rather the men (Acts 5:29). 2. COLT symbolizes humility, a low ly animal of peace. It is also a visible sign that Jesus is the true king, the fulfillment of the prophecy of Prophet Zechariah (9:9). MAUNDY THURSDAY The word Maundy is derived from the Latin word mandatum, the first word of the phrase Mandatum novum do vobis ut diligatis invicem sicut dilexi vos ( A new commandment I give to you. That you love one another, as I have loved you, John 13:34). There were two orders given by Jesus on this occasion: The institution of the Holy Eucharist Do this in remembrance of me and after washing the feet of the disciples, the command to Love one another, as I have loved you. This occasion refers us also to the Passover Night where the lamb without blemish is slain and its blood is blotched on the doorpost and lintels of the house for the angel of death to see and

Passover. The blood of the lamb was the seal of the old covenant. The blood of Jesus is the seal of the new covenant. The color is white which symbolizes a joyful character of the occasion portraying a banquet with the presence of the groom. Theme: Love to the extent of laying down oneself for others or breaking oneself as bread to give life to others or stooping so low to reach out those who have fallen. GOOD FRIDAY The color is red symbolizing bravery and sacrifice. It is good because on this day Jesus suffered death upon the cross for our redemption and made there by the one offering of himself a full, perfect, and sufficient sacrifice for the sins of the whole world. By the wounds of Jesus we are healed and by His precious blood our sins are blotted out. EASTER SUNDAY is the greatest and central feast in the Christian world. Without the resurrection, there could have been no hope of eternal life in Christian religion. The color is white or gold symbolizing a new day, new life and victory over the power of darkness. The theme is Christ is risen. He is risen indeed! Easter begins with Easter vigil. Symbols involved are: A Paschal Candle - symbolizing Christ, the Apha and Omega, the true light of the world that vanquished the power of darkness and death and in whose wounds we are healed. The Font and the new water symbolizing cleansing, new birth and new life.

ASCENSION DAY This is celebrated on the 40th day after Easter. Ascension Day is always a Thursday. The color is white or gold. He ascended into heaven and seated on the right hand of the Father. The suggested Central Theme is: The Authority and Power of Jesus. PENTECOST SUNDAY know n also as Whitsunday. This is celebrated on the 50th day after Easter. It is a commemoration of the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the disciples giving them the strength for the work they had to do in his Name. This day is also considered as the Birthday of the Church. The color is red symbolizing the flame of fire. TRINITY SUNDAY This is the Sunday following Pentecost Sunday. The color is white signifying the shroud that veils the holy communion of the Triune God. TRINITY SEASON: The color for the whole season is green with the exception of feast days where red or white may be used. is the color of life, grow th, development and spreading or reaching out. Trinity Season is also known as missionary season. This is the season for building up and edifying the kingdom of God. Most of the lessons in this season are Parables about the Kingdom of God and about stewardship. THE CHRIST THE KING SUNDAY: This is the last Sunday of the liturgical year and the enthronement of Jesus as the King of kings or the Feast of Christ the King. Jesus reigns forever. His kingdom shall have no end and his kingship has dominion over all.

Days of Holy Week and of the Easter Octave That the Days of Holy Week and of the Easter Octave permit of no other observance or commemoration. Doubles of the first and second class occurring in these octaves are transferred. All other commemorations are not made in the year of the occurrence. The Octaves of Epiphany and Pentecost permit of no other observance or commemoration. No other day may be observed or commemorated on Ash Wednesday. Octaves are not observed if these fall in Advent or Lent, but only the Octave Day of the Patronal or Dedication Festival, and the feria is always commemorated. However, between December 16 and 23, and in Passion-tide, the Octave day is only commemorated. No other commemoration takes place on All Soul's Day, November 2, until after Mass of the Day. If November 2 is a Sunday in any year, All Soul's Day is not observed on the Sunday, but is transferred for that year, and observed on November 3. The Filipino Missal, SCB, 1961) Votive Masses Votive Mass is one not required by the Calendar, but celebrated for some special intention of the devotion of the Priest or People. A Solemn Votive Mass, with chant, if possible, may be celebrated for some special intention affecting the entire congregation, upon an occasion of civic or public importance, and by direction or permission by the Ordinary. Such Votives are allowed on any days except: Doubles of first class, Ash Wednesday, the days of the Holy Week, the vigils of Christmas and Pentecost, within the Octaves of Easter and Pentecost, on All Souls' Day, and upon the Feast of Purification. And it is to be noted that a Solemn Votive should not be celebrated as the only Mass for the Day. One Collect only is used at Solemn Votives, except for commemoration of Sundays, doubles of the first or second class and greater ferias. Gloria in Excelsis is said if the color of the Mass be Red or White. The Creed is said. The Preface is that proper to the Mass if such provision is made in the Proper. Ordinary Votive Masses are celebrated from the special devotion of the Priests, members of the Congregation who may request them, or groups of members, such as organizations and guilds, and are for intentions not affecting the Congregation as a whole,

and for those not of grave public concern. They are not celebrated on the following days: Sundays and other days of double rank and above Lenten Week-days except Mondays Holy Week and the Octave of Easter From December 16-23, the Vigils of Christmas and pentecost Ember or Rogation Days During the Octaves of Epiphany, the Patron All Saints, and Dedication An ordinary votive is not only Mass on Holy Days when a Solemn Votive may not be celebrated, nor on any day which Mass for the People is required. At ordinary Votives the Collect for the Day immediately follows the Collect of the Mass. Gloria in Excelsis is said only in Votives of the Blessed Virgin and the Holy Angels. The Creed is not said. If there is provision in the proper, a Preface proper to the Mass is used. Requiem Masses 1. The Requiem Mass for the Burial, Funeral, or upon first receiving news of the decease is a privileged Requiem. It may be celebrated on any day of the year except: Christmas Corpus Christi Epiphany Solemnity of the Blessed Virgin Easter St. Michael and All Angels Ascension St. Joseph Pentecost SS. Peter and Paul Trinity Sunday All Saints The last three days of the Holy Week The Burial Requiem should not be the only Mass in a Parish Church when Mass for the People is required to be celebrated, as on Holy Days of Obligation. It may be offered in addition to the Mass of the Day on these days. For grave reason the Ordinary may dispense in this matter. 2. The Requiem for the Anniversary of the day of Death or Burial, and the Requiem on the Ninth Day after Death or Burial is not celebrated on Sunday or other Holy Days of Obligation, nor upon any double of the first or second class, nor upon All Soul's Day. Ash Wednesday, Holy Week, within the octaves of Christmas, taster, Pentecost, and Epiphany. It may not be the only Mass offered in a Parish Church upon those days when Mass for the people is required. An Anniversary or Novena may be anticipated or transferred its date is impeded.

3. Ordinary Requiems of devotion may not be offered on any Sunday, nor on doubles of the first and second class, within octaves, from December 16 to 23 nor on Lenten week-days, except Mondays. Ordinary requiems are not offered on Ember Days and other greater ferias, nor are they the only Mass on any festival of the Calendar. But note that in questions arising from the application of these rules, the Ordinary may dispense for weightier reason. Ordination In practice, Holy Orders are frequently conferred on Sundays and certain Feast days, but this practice is a departure from the strict rule, and these ordination are called extra tempora, thus there are tempora or fixed times for the canonical conferment of Holy Orders. These are the following: the Ember Saturdays of Pentecost, September and December, b) the ember Saturdays of Lent. The IFI Canons authorizes that Ordination shall be held only during Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation. While Ash Wednesday is part of the day of obligation, it is not a day generally held for ordination. Consecration of Bishops Bishops are regularly consecrated on Sundays and on Feasts of the Apostles. Nuptial Masses The Nuptial Mass in connection with the solemnization of Holy Matrimony is not celebrated during the closed seasons, these being the days from December 16 to 23, and the days of Lent, including Sundays. The Nuptial Mass is not celebrated on any day when a Solemn Votive may not be offered, except by dispensation, and in any case not on the major days of the Calendar. Mass of special intention, of the Days may be offered in connection with a marriage on those days upon which the Nuptial Mass is not allowed, but all cases of doubt, the matter should be referred by the Ordinary for his judgment.

TRADITIONAL COLLECTS SEASON OF ADVENT First Sunday in Advent Our loving and merciful God, give us grace to cast away the works of darkness and greed, and put on the armor of light, now in the time of this mortal life in which your Son Jesus Christ came to visit us in great humility; that in the last day, when he shall come again in his glorious majesty to judge both the living and the dead, we may rise to the life immortal; through him who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God now and forever. Amen. Second Sunday in Advent Merciful God, who sent your messengers the prophets to preach repentance and prepare the way for our salvation: Give us grace to heed their warnings and forsake our sins, that we may greet with joy the coming of Jesus Christ our Redeemer, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. Third Sunday in Advent Stir up your power, O Lord, and with great might come among us; and, because we are sorely hindered by our sins, let your bountiful grace and mercy speedily help and deliver us; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory, now and forever. Amen. Fourth Sunday in Advent Purify our conscience, Most Gracious God, by your daily visitation, that your Son Jesus Christ, at his coming, may find in us a mansion prepared for himself; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

TRADITIONAL COLLECTS MISA DE GALLO AND CHRISTMAS SEASON Misa de Gallo 1 Merciful Father, your blessed Son, the great wisdom at his first coming among us brought redemption to the world: Grant that, when he comes again in glory, we may be found ready to receive him, and enter into his joy; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit one God, now and for ever. Amen. Misa de Gallo 2 Lord our God, by your command the years run their course; to the fulfillment of your purpose the ages hasten on; Make unwavering our faith and strong our hope that we may with patience await the promised day of the return of the great ruler, our Lord Jesus Christ, and the establishment of his dominion over all the world; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. Misa de Gallo 3 God, our Father, you sent your blessed Son, from the root of Jesse, our Saviour Jesus Christ to free humankind from the power of death: May we who remember his birth as Son of Man, rejoice to welcome him when he comes again in glory, and evermore rejoice in his gift of eternal life; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. Misa de Gallo 4 Purify our conscience, Loving God, by your daily visitation, that the key of David, your Son Jesus Christ, at his coming, may find in us a mansion prepared for himself; who live and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. Misa de Gallo 5 O Father, Creator and Redeemer of humankind, you decreed, and your word become man, born of the Virgin Mary, the brightness of Eternal light and humbled himself to share our human nature, so when he comes in glory may we be exalted to share his glory; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. Misa de Gallo 7 Misa de Gallo 8 Gracious Father, you have shown the world the splendor of your glory in the coming of your Son, born of a virgin: Grant us so to prepare our hearts and minds, that we may worthily celebrate the coming feast of the God made man; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. Misa de Gallo 9 Loving Father, you have given unto us a Great and Good Shepherd: May He come and feed your people with your strength that you may Reign in judgement and righteousness and bring them in safety to your everlasting fold; through Jesus Christ our Lord who lives and reign, with you and the Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen. The Nativity of Our Lord Merciful God, you have given your only-begotten Son to take our nature upon him, and to be born [this day] of a pure virgin: Grant that we, who have been born again and made your children by adoption and grace, may daily be renewed by your Holy Spirit; through our Lord Jesus Christ, to whom with you and the same Spirit be honor and glory, now and for ever. Amen.

Amen. The Holy Name of Our Lord Jesus Christ Eternal Father, you gave to your Incarnate Son the holy name of Jesus to be the sign of our salvation: Plant in every heart, we pray, the love of him who is the Savior of the world, our Lord Jesus Christ; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen. E P I P H A N Y The Epiphany O God, by the leading of a star you manifested your only Son to the peoples of the earth: Lead us, who know you by faith, to your presence, where we may see your glory face to face; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. First Sunday After the Epiphany Father in heaven, who at the baptism of Jesus Christ in the River Jordan proclaimed him your beloved Son and anointed him with the Holy Spirit: Grant that all who are baptized into his Name may keep the covenant that have made, and boldly confess him as Lord and Savior; who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God in glory everlasting. Amen. Second Sunday After the Epiphany Gracious God, whose Son our Savior Jesus Christ is the light of the world: Grant that your people, illumined by your Word and Sacraments, may shine with the radiance of Christ's glory, that he may be known, worshipped, and obeyed to the ends of the earth; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

TRADITIONAL COLLECTS Third Sunday After Epiphany Give us grace, O Lord, to answer readily the call of our Savior Jesus Christ and proclaim to all people the Good News of his salvation, that we and the whole world may perceive the glory of his marvelous works; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. Fourth Sunday After the Epiphany Loving and everlasting God, you govern all things both in heaven and on earth: Mercifully hear the supplications of your people, and in our time grant us your peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. Fifth Sunday After the Epiphany Set us free, O God from the bondage of our sins, and give us the liberty of that abundant life which you have made known to us in your Son our Saviour Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. Sixth Sunday After the Epiphany O God, the strength of all who put their trust in you: Mercifully accept our prayers and because in our weakness we can do nothing good without you, give us the help of your grace, that in keeping your commandments we may please you both in will and deed; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. Seventh Sunday After the Epiphany O Lord, you have taught us that without love whatever we do is worth nothing: Send your Holy Spirit and pour into our hearts your greatest gift, which is love, the true bond of peace and of all virtue, without which whoever lives is accounted dead before you. Grant this for the sake of your only Son Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

TRADITIONAL COLLECTS Last Sunday After the Epiphany O God, who before the passion of your only begotten Son revealed his glory upon the holy mountain: Grant to us that we, beholding by faith the light of his countenance, may be strengthened to bear our cross, and be changed into his likeness from glory to glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen. SEASON OF LENT Ash Wednesday Merciful and everlasting God, who hate nothing you have made and forgive the sins of all who are penitent: Create and make in us new and contrite hearts, that we, worthily lamenting our sins and acknowledging our wretchedness, may obtain of you, the God of all mercy, perfect remission and forgiveness; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. First Sunday in Lent Gracious God, whose blessed Son was led by the Spirit to be tempted by Satan; Come quickly to help us who are assaulted by many temptations; and, as you know the weakness of each of us, let each one find you mighty to save; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. Second Sunday in Lent O God, whose glory is always to have mercy: Be gracious to all who have gone astray from your ways, and bring them again with penitent hearts and steadfast faith to embrace and hold fast the unchangeable truth of your Word, Jesus Christ your Son; who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

TRADITIONAL COLLECTS Third Sunday in Lent Loving God, you know that we have no power in ourselves to help ourselves: Keep us both outwardly in our bodies and inwardly in our souls, that we may be defended from all adversities which may happen to the body, and from all evil thoughts which may assault and hurt the soul; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. Fourth Sunday in Lent Gracious Father, whose blessed Son Jesus Christ came down from heaven to be the true bread which gives life to the world: Evermore give us this bread, that he may live in us, and we in him; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. Fifth Sunday in Lent Gracious God, you alone can bring into order the unruly wills and affections of sinners; Grant your people grace to love what you command and desire what you promised; that, among the swift and varied changes of the world, our hearts may surely there be fixed where true joys are to be found; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. THE INCARNATION O God, who wonderfully created, and yet more wonderfully restored, the dignity of human nature: Grant that we may share the divine life of him who humbled himself to share our humanity, your Son Jesus Christ; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

TRADITIONAL COLLECTS THE HOLY EUCHARIST God our Father, whose Son our Lord Jesus Christ in a wonderful Sacrament has left us a memorial of his passion: Grant us so to venerate the sacred mysteries of his Body and Blood, that we may ever perceive within ourselves the fruit of his redemption; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. THE HOLY CROSS Merciful God, whose beloved Son willingly endured the agony and shame of the cross of our redemption: Give us courage to take up our cross and follow him; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. THE BAPTIZED CHRISTIANS Grant, Lord God, to all who have been baptized into the death and resurrection of your Son Jesus Christ, that as we have put away the old life of sin, so we may be renewed in the spirit of our minds, and live in righteousness and true holiness through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. THE DEPARTED Eternal Lord God, you hold all souls in life: Give to your whole Church in paradise and on earth your light and your peace; and grant that we, following the good examples of those who have served you here and are now at rest, may at the last enter with them into your unending joy; through Jesus Christ our Lord who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. or this

TRADITIONAL COLLECTS REIGN OF CHRIST Gracious and everlasting God, whose will it is to restore all things in your well-beloved Son, the King of kings and Lord of lords: Mercifully grant that the peoples of the earth, divided and enslaved by sin, may be freed and brought together under his most gracious rule; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. ANNIVERSARY OF THE DEDICATION OF A CHURCH Most loving God, to whose glory we celebrate the dedication of this house of prayer: We give you thanks for the fellowship of those who have worshiped in this place, and we pray that all who seek you here may find you, and be filled with your joy and peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. FOR A CHURCH CONVENTION Most loving and merciful Father, you have given the Holy Spirit to abide with us for ever: Bless, we pray, with his grace and presence, the bishops and the other clergy and the laity here (or now, or soon to be) assembled in your Name, that your Church being preserved in true faith and godly discipline, may fulfill all the mind of him who loved it and gave himself for it, your Son Jesus Christ our Savior, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. FOR THE UNITY OF THE CHURCH Loving Father, whose blessed Son before his passion prayed for his disciples that they might be one, as you and he are one: Grant that your Church, being bound together in love and obedience to you, may be united in one body by the one Spirit, that your dominion may increase until the earth is filled with the knowledge of your love; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

TRADITIONAL COLLECTS FOR ROGATION DAYS: FOR FRUITFUL SEASONS Most loving God, Lord of heaven and earth: We humbly pray that your gracious providence may give and preserve to our use the harvests of the land and of the seas, and may prosper all who labor to gather them, that we, who are constantly receiving good things from your hand, may always give you thanks; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. FOR COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY Most merciful God, whose Son Jesus Christ in his earthly life shared our toil and hallowed our labor: Be present with your people where they work; make those who carry on the industries and commerce of this land responsive to your will; and give to us all a pride in what we do, and a just return for our labor; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. FOR STEWARDSHIP OF CREATION O merciful Creator, your hand is open wide to satisfy the needs of every living creature: Make us always thankful for your loving providence; and grant that we, remembering the account that we must one day give, may be faithful stewards of your good gifts; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns one God, for ever and ever. Amen. FOR THE SICK Heavenly Father, giver of life and health: Comfort and relieve your sick servant, and give your power of healing to those who minister to their needs, that those (or N. or NN.) for whom our prayers are offered may be strengthened in their weakness and have confidence in your loving care; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

TRADITIONAL COLLECTS FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE Loving God, who created us in your image: Grant us grace fearlessly to contend against evil and to make no peace with oppression; and, that we may reverently use our freedom, help us to employ it in the maintenance of justice in our communities and among the nations, to the glory of your Holy Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. Most gracious Father, whose blessed Son came not to be served but to serve: Bless all who following in his steps, give themselves to the service of others; that with wisdom, patience, and courage, they may minister in his Name to the suffering, the friendless, and the needy; for the love of him who laid down his life for us, your Son our Savior Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. Merciful God, the fountain of all wisdom: Enlighten by your Holy Spirit those who teach and those who learn, that, rejoicing in the knowledge of your truth, they may worship you and serve you from generation to generation; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. Loving and merciful God, you declare your glory and show forth your handiwork in the heavens and in the earth: Deliver us in our various occupations from the service of self alone, that we may do the work you give us to do in truth and beauty and for the common good; for the sake of him who came among us as one who serves, your Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

TRADITIONAL COLLECTS Loving God, you have so linked our lives one with another that all we do affects, for good or ill, all other lives: So guide us in the work we do, that we may do it not for self alone, but for the common good; and, as we seek a proper return for our own labor, make us mindful of the rightful aspirations of other workers, and arouse our concern for those who are out of work; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. O God, the source of all knowledge: Look favourably on the seminaries and colleges of the Church. Bless those who teach and those who learn that they may with diligence and steadfastness fulfill their service according to your will. Grant that new life and understanding may enter your Church as new servants complete their preparations for ministry. We ask this for the sake of your Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. BIRTHDAY God of the universe and Lord of life, the birth of your Son Jesus Christ brought joy to the world: We thank you for giving us (N). Grant that he/she may grow in wisdom and grace, and abide in you all the days of his/her life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Heavenly Father, you have consecrated the holy state of matrimony to signify the unity between Christ and his Church: Give your grace to all who are joined in holy wedlock, especially N. and N. on their anniversary, that with true fidelity and steadfast love they may honor and keep the promises and vows they make; for his sake who adorned and beautified with his presence the marriage in Cana of Galilee, your Son our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen. or God our Father, we thank you for the long and happy marriage of N. and N. and for all the good they done. As you blessed the love of their youth, so continue to bless their life together with gifts of peace and joy; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever. Amen.
