2 Page 2 With Burning Hearts We Proclaim the Good News April 15, 2018 My dear friends, On February 5, I came to St. John Eudes parish as a priest in residence. I thought it might be a good idea to share with you what it means for a priest to be a priest in residence. It means that a priest is offered a room and board in the rectory. The parish does not pay him a salary. And as for me, a Eudist priest, my Congregation, the Eudists, take care of all my medical expenses. As for room and board, the ministry that I presently exercise in the parish: the weekday and weekend Masses, the funerals, baptisms, etc., may compensate. If not, again, the Eudists have a retirement fund and they will cover whatever extra expenses the room and board would entail. I want to believe that you are not very concerned about my being a financial burden for the parish, but I felt the need to share with you so that the situation of a priest in residence is well understood on the part of all the parishioners. I also want to share with you that I received a call from Providence Holy Cross hospital asking if I would be open to help them with some weekday Masses and also with anointings and Last Rites. The priest who was ministering at the hospital has been sick and won t be able to continue except for the Sunday Mass. I was happy to tell them that I would be available because, from 2001 to 2005, I was chaplain in a catholic hospital in Buffalo, New York. I am accredited as a hospital chaplain. Please pray for the following priests this week: Apr 15 Rev. Msgr. Patrick McNulty, Nazareth House, Los Angeles Apr 16 Rev. John Montejano, St. Frances de Sales Catholic Church, Sherman Oaks Apr 17 Rev. Roberto Barco, St. Mary Catholic Church, Palmdale Apr 18 Rev. Msgr. Jarlath Cunane, Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Encino Apr 19 Rev. Joseph Denny, R.C.J., St. Elisabeth Catholic Church, Van Nuys Apr 20 Rev. Walter Paredes, Mary Immaculate Catholic Church, Palmdale Apr 21 Rev. Antonio Carlucci, R.C.J., St. Jane Frances De Chantal Catholic Church, North Hollywood For Schedule of Baptism Seminars and Baptisms, please contact the Parish Office at: (818) or For those baptizing at another parish and taking the Baptism Seminar here, the fee is $25 per couple When I was an associate at St. Jerome in Phoenix, there is one ministry that I enjoyed very much, the ministry to the sick. I hope in another article, to share with you how I would like to exercise this ministry here at St. John Eudes parish. Have a good week, Fr. Ben This week you will be hosted by the Men s Fellowship. Come in and enjoy the coffee, donuts and camaraderie! Nellie Newman, Phil McManama & Olivia Kelly S.H. Ministry
