2 February 14, st Sunday of Lent I have now brought you the first fruits of the products of the soil which you, O Lord, have given to me. (Deuteronomy 26:10) This line from the Old Testament offers two challenges. First, do you give to God from your first fruits, the best that you have to offer, or do you give from what is leftover? Second, do you remember that everything you have has been given to you by God? Ask God for a grateful and generous heart, every day. Jubilee Year of Mercy February 14, 2016 First Sunday of Lent On Ash Wednesday Pope Francis commissioned Missionaries of Mercy, priest-confessors sent forth worldwide as "living signs of the Father s readiness to welcome those in search of [God s] pardon. In a way, though, Pope Francis challenges all of us to become missionaries of mercy (Misericordiae Vultus, 18) by living Lent in this Jubilee Year of Mercy more intensely as a privileged moment to celebrate and experience God s mercy (MV, 17). Francis bids us make the prophet Micah s words our own: God... who does not persist in anger forever, but delights rather in clemency. You will cast into the depths of the sea all our sins (Micah 7:18, 19). Having experienced God s mercy ourselves in the unconditional forgiveness of our sins, how eager we should be to invite others to know the peace of God s boundless mercy; perhaps even to experience, through our reaching out in gentle kindness and compassionate care, something of God s unconditional love for them. 3 Live Stations of the Cross We are planning on doing a live stations of the cross on Good Friday, March 25th at 7:00pm. We are in need of many participants; Young and Old, Ladies and Men, Children and Families. There are no speaking parts and no real acting required. We also need adults to help clean-up and set-up the outside area. Sign up sheets are in the foyer. Stations of the Cross Stations of the Cross will be held each Friday during Lent at 6:30 pm and Mass at 7:00 pm. Followed by a meatless meal at 7:30 and stay for a Lenten Reflection with Fr. Martino from 8:15 to 8:45pm. Mission Retreat Don t miss the Lenten Mission Retreat with Fr. Minch on Monday & Tuesday evening, Feb. 15& 16, beginning at 7:00 p.m. Penance Service Fr. Martino has scheduled the Lenten Penance service to be held on Wednesday, February 17, at 7pm. Come get your oil change! The Bishop's Annual This week begins the Bishop s Annual Appeal. We will view the Bishops video next weekend. This years goal for St. Boniface is set at $26,125. Please be sure to make your check payable to the Bishops Annual Appeal and not St. Boniface. You may drop your envelope in the collection basket and we will mail the donations/pledges. Discover the Inner Path: A Gathering of Women Take time to get in touch with God, yourself and other women. Spend Saturday February 27, 9-3PM at Inner Path: A Gathering of Women at beautiful Villa Marie Center on the Isle of Hope at 6 Dolan Drive. K of C Poster Contest Substance Abuse Awareness Poster Contest The Knights of Columbus is sponsoring the Substance Abuse Awareness Poster Contest again this year. Entries must include a slogan and an original visual image reflecting either of two themes. Students choose as their theme either alcohol abuse awareness or drug abuse awareness. The national contest is open to youth ages 8 through 14. For our parish contest we will also accept posters for students younger than 8 and will award a single prize there. Entrants will compete in age group 8 through 11 or 12 through 14. A $25 prize will be awarded to the winning poster in each age and theme category. Posters must be submitted by February 28, with the winners May He Rest in Peace Our heartfelt condolences and prayers go out to Mike & Cindy Felipe on the recent passing of Mike s brother, Joe. Please check with Lynn Duncan to ensure that your confirmation candidate is ready. RCIA This weeks RCIA topic is "Take a Look, The Nicene Creed. This is not just for Candidates and Catechumens. Everyone is invited to join us! CATHOLIC FOCUS As Catholic Christians we are called by our Lord to continue our understanding and knowledge of our Catholic faith, the Sacred Scriptures, and our need to share our faith with others. These areas are covered in our Catholic Focus class every Sunday morning at 9:45 AM in the Catholic Focus room in the Faith Formation building. We receive our lessons for the week (on a monthly basis) via --to download and prepare for the lesson on the following Sunday. The lessons are based on the Mass Scriptures for that particular week. We have a catechist that leads the class as we ponder and discuss how the Scriptures encourage us to actually "LIVE AND APPLY THEIR UNDERSTANDING TO THE MANNER IN WHICH WE LIVE OUR LIVES". Adults of all ages are welcome. We look forward to meeting and greeting you as we grow in our knowledge of God's Calling in our lives-to become the Disciples and Stewards we are "called" to be. Please stop by and see for yourselves. Be diligent in serving the poor. Love the poor, honor them as you would Christ himself. St. Louise de Marillac The VIRTUS "Protecting God's Children for Adults" training will be held at at St. Anne, Richmond Hill on Wednesday March 2, 2016 at 6pm. The Class will be held in Holy Family Hall, located behind the old church. You MUST log in through VIRTUS website to receive credit for session The class will start promptly at 5:00 pm. Once doors are closed no late admittance will be allowed. This training is required for all who provide either paid or volunteer ministry in our diocese who in the course of their ministry come into contact with minors. Space is limited and registration is required by registering online at VIRTUS Online. No one under age 18 will be admitted due to sensitive subject matter - no infants, no toddlers, no children, no teens. Please arrive early - no admittance once the session begins.
