2 EVERYDAY STEWARDSHIP - RECOGNIZE GOD IN YOUR ORDINARY MOMENTS I saw a slogan once for an Internet start-up: "There is one rule; there are no rules." In fact, when I searched for this slogan again online, I was surprised at all of the variations on the "no rules" sentiment. Apparently, even Justin Bieber has a documented quote: "I want my world to be fun. No parents, no rules, no nothing. Like, no one can stop me. No one can stop me." Wow. My own kids seldom read my reflections. If they are reading this one, don't get any ideas! Of course, a society without laws or rules will not exist for very long. The laws of a society are there to protect us from perhaps our greatest enemy: ourselves. We can't just do whatever we feel like. We will eventually hurt others or ourselves. The laws of God and his Church have the same effect. Sinful and imperfect people need parameters. Christians who choose sin or their own will over God's commandments not only break the relationship they have with their God, but they hurt others and diminish the body of Christ. A stewardship way of life asks of us to live in a certain manner. We sometimes think that our cultivation of gifts and giving them back with increase to God is for God's sake. God's commands do not benefit God, for God is complete and perfect without need for increase. But this way of life is for the benefit of his creation. There is no power struggle here between a God of rules and his children. The cross bears witness to that. Instead, God's "rules" prevent us from destroying ourselves, and give us a path so we may flourish. Whether you are an ordinary Joe or an ordinary Bieber, following God's commands will lead to the real satisfaction in this gift of life. --Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS Page 2 Three Parish Catholic Family How do you support the Bishop s Appeal? Announcement for Koinonia at St. Joe s Phlox March 31-April 2: A Koinonia (Community) Retreat is Returning to the Antigo Area March 31-April 2, 2017 (three weekends before Palm Sunday). It will be held at St. Joseph/Holy Family Parish Center in Phlox, a short distance southeast of Antigo. Cost is low. Overnight stay is not required but may be provided if needed. The retreat features inspiring talks, prayer, quiet reflection, good food, fellowship and spiritual ceremonies and gifts. The Knights of Columbus Free Throw Competition will be held on Sunday, February 19, It is open to all boys and girls ages 9-14 years of age as of January 1, It will be held at the Tigerton High School Gym with registration beginning at 9:30 am. Shooting will follow immediately. All participants must be accompanied by a parent/guardian or have a note signed by their parents giving permission to participate. We also need proof of date of birth for each contestant. If there are any questions please call Julie Prey, FYI- The district level competition will follow immediately after the local competition. Matrimony Couples planning to marry are to contact Fr. Castan eda at least nine months prior to the proposed marriage date. Marriage preparation involves a series of meetings with the priest, married couples, and a retreat. Coming to Mass every weekend and participating in the life of the parish community is vitally important for those who wish to be married. Couples should not be living together prior to marriage. Baptism Anyone desiring the Sacrament of Baptism for themselves or for his or her infant child should contact Deb Brandt, Pastoral Coordinator. The Baptism of infants requires an active faith on the part of their parents and godparents. Coming to Mass every weekend and participating in the life of the parish community is vitally important for those who wish their children to be baptized. Funerals In the event of the death of a loved one, please contact the parish office or Father Castan eda directly. The family representative (s) should arrange to meet with Father Castan eda regarding the liturgical preparation: Wake Service, Funeral Mass and Internment. The Funeral Mass may be scheduled for any day of the week except Sunday. Anointing of the Sick In the case of serious illness or inirmity contact Father Castan eda at the parish office to arrange for receiving the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. Those with scheduled surgeries may receive the Sacrament at home or at the church prior to going to the hospital for the surgery. Page 3 Three Parish Catholic Family

4 WHY DO WE DO THAT? - CATHOLIC TRADITIONS EXPLAINED Question: I read in the catechism that marriage is indissoluble. Why then does the church issue an annulment? Answer: The description of marriage as indissoluble is found in several places in the "Catechism of the Catholic Church." Described as required by spousal love (#1644) and as foundational to the union of marriage (#1646), this quality of marriage draws its meaning from the fidelity of Jesus to his church (#1647). Spouses give themselves once and forever to each other, forming a sacramental bond that binds them as one. Indissolubility presumes and depends upon the sacramental bond between spouses. An annulment does not destroy the bond. Instead, it shows that a sacramental bond never took place because, at the time of the vows, something was either present or absent that made the consent invalid. The ceremony itself does not bring about a sacrament, but rather the full, free, and able consent of a man and woman, one to the other. The husband and wife are the ministers of the sacrament to each other because they give the gift of themselves to one another. The priest is the official witness. Therefore, if the gift of self is not given, or is held back for any reason, no sacrament takes place. Unbound Update from Fr. Jim Horath- Thanks to all of you who supported this ministry. There were 28 children and elderly that were sponsored, as well as generous donations to the Unbound Scholarship fund. Everyone is invited to join St. Gianna Molla Catholic Medical Guild of Northeast Wisconsin at their annual White Mass celebrated by Bishop David Ricken, followed by the world renowned Fr. Tad Pacholczyk, Ph.D., who will be expounding on Sexuality, Infertility, and Human Embyos. Fr. Tad is the Director of Education at the National Catholic Bioethics Center. To prepare for this important event a retreat day will be directed by Fr. Regis Barwig who is prior of the Community of Our Lady Monastery. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend the Confirmation celebration Mass at 2:00 pm at St. Mary in Marion today. 3 Parish Pilgrimage- Next weekend everyone will have the opportunity to partake in a three parish pilgrimage within our three parish family. We will start in Wittenberg with the 8 am Mass, then travel to Tigerton, and then on to Marion and end with the Mass. We will be praying in front of our tabernacles and celebrating the Masses, to which you can receive at both of them. This is a great way to honor our Lord with your lives. Let s make this a grand representation of our three parish family spirituality.
