1 Grade 1 Session 8 Celebrating God s Forgiveness and the Eucharist Session 8 Overview The theme of Session 8 is Celebrating God s Forgiveness and the Eucharist. Children learn in Chapter 19 about God s forgiveness and our call to forgive one another. They learn in Chapter 22 about celebrating the Eucharist and the Mass. Chapter 19 Overview In Chapter 18 the children learned ways members of the Church follow Jesus. In this chapter they will learn about God s forgiveness. Key Words Penance and Reconciliation Doctrinal Content For Adult Reading and Reflection Catechism of the Catholic Church The students will learn: Paragraph Jesus told us about God s forgiveness God is always ready to forgive us We celebrate God s forgiveness Jesus asks us to forgive others

2 Chapter 22 Overview In Chapter 19 the children learned about God s forgiveness. In this chapter the children will learn that in the Sacrament of the Eucharist, bread and wine become the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. Have the children imagine what the celebration was like after the son returned. Have volunteers act out the celebration.

4 Curriculum Connection: Language Arts Help the children make up a story about forgiveness. Invite the children to conclude the story with some forgiving words and actions. Ask each group to write a prayer to thank God for always being ready to forgive us. Parish: Guest Speaker Invite one of the priests of the parish to talk to the children about God s forgiveness and the Sacrament of Penance.
