3 Saint John the Baptist When Jesus came to John for Baptism, John Recognized him as the Messiah or as we say, the Christ John was first imprisoned then beheaded by Herod Antipas because he criticized the marital status of Herod who had divorced his first wife in order to marry his brother's wife, Herodias.
