3 MARCH 11, 2018 The Archbishop s Annual Appeal helps provide the critical funding needed to feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, counsel those in despair, offer muchneeded assistance to the unemployed, and make medical care available to those without health insurance. Your gift to the 2018 Appeal will help to continue these and other vital ministries, services, and programs that reach out to so many in need. Your Time Devoted To Lent Wednesdays: St. Joseph Church, Fr. Doherty Hall: March 14, March 28 St. Gabriel Church Hall: March 21 Do You Believe Sessions will alternate weeks and be held in Fr. Doherty Hall at St. Joseph Church and in St. Gabriel Church Hall, 10:00-11:00 AM. Thursdays: March 15 - March 22 SOUP FOR THE SOUL, 6-7 PM in St. Gabriel Church Hall. Join us for soup and scripture Thursday evenings during the Lenten Season. Tuesdays: March 20, 27, April 3, 17 Psalms II Praying with Jesus, 6:30-8:00 PM, St. Joseph Church Basement (Fr. Doherty Hall). Last Saturday, Saint Gabriel School participated in the Windsor Feud. The Council Chambers at the Town Hall was transformed into a television studio as 8 teams went against each other to raise money for their particular causes. While our team lost to Windsor Federal, we were called back to the Championship Round since we raised the most funds. I wish to thank all who supported us raising over $1,300 for our parish school! Volunteers helping with dinner please be sure to add your name to the Sign Up sheet. Dinner will include pasta and meatballs; marinara, pesto and alfredo sauces; salad and Italian bread and zeppole. Corkscrews will be available for those who bring wine to enjoy with dinner. St. Joseph themed items will also be given away! MINISTRIES Helping Hands - Tuesday, March 13th, St. Joseph Church, Fr. The Prayer Shawl Ministry daytime group will meet at St. Gabriel Church Hall from 1-2 PM on Monday, March 19th. St. Gabriel Church will offer Coffee Hour Next Sunday, March 18 after the 10:30 AM Mass for all to enjoy!
4 Messages from Social Action Monthly Food Collection Next weekend is the monthly food collection. For March, the Windsor Food Bank has requested: spaghetti sauce, pasta, baking items, coffee, tea, crackers, and snack items, such as granola bars. Easter Basket Goodies Collection Social Action is sponsoring a collection of Easter Basket items, such as candy, small stuffed animals, books, and small toys to benefit Covenant to Care. The Easter Basket items will be donated through the social workers to the families with children. The collection will take place the weekend of March 17 and 18. If you have any questions on the collection, please contact Valerie Gange, Joan Lynch, or Maureen Fernandes. Troops Do you know a soldier that is deployed to a war zone? If so, we would love to adopt your soldier and send care packages to him/her. Social Action partners with Send Hometown Windsor to the Troops and we are currently looking for more soldiers to adopt! Each soldier receives a monthly care package along with wonderful letters and cards from our Windsor Elementary students. If you know of a soldier, please send his or her contact information to Lisa or Sue at the below contact information. The next Social Action meeting is Monday, May 14 at 6PM in St. Joseph Church Hall. GABRIEL SCHOOL Updates SGS students will be singing the National Anthem at the March 18th, at the Hartford Wolf Pack hockey game. Parishioners can support the school by attending the game and purchasing tickets through school (at a discount). $1-$2 off the ticket price goes back to SGS. Wolf Pack tickets are for sale now. Also, SGS students will be singing God Bless America at the April 20th, at the Hartford Yard Goats game. Parishioners can show their support by attending the game and purchasing tickets through school (at a discount). $1-$2 off the ticket price goes back to SGS. Yard Goats are not for sale until April 19th. ************* Thank you to all who supported the 'St. Gabriel School Angels,' who represented St. Gabriel School on the Windsor Feud last Saturday, March 4th. The team players were Father Melnick, Mrs. Baliga, Miss McGuinness and Mrs. Plucker. The Angels, who made it to the final round, took first place for donations, raising over $1,300! St. Gabriel School is now accepng applicaons for the 2018/19 academic school year. There are many opportunies to learn more about our school: OPEN HOUSE: We will be holding an OPEN HOUSE on Sunday, April 29, 2018 from 13 PM. This is a great opportunity to tour our classrooms, meet faculty, current families and students.
