1 NO NEED FOR ADDITIONAL DOWNLOADS, INSERTS, OR STICKERS! Bringing Your Catholic Faith to Life
2 Seizing the Opportunity of the Revised Roman Missal As you know, this Advent, a big change is coming that will affect you, your catechists, and your people. A new translation of the Roman Missal will be introduced, changing the words we pray and the words we hear. Change is never easy, but it is an opportunity to be seized. The introduction of this new translation will be an opportunity for you to help your catechists, students, and families to appreciate more deeply the source and summit of our faith, the Mass. In order to help you and those you serve, Our Sunday Visitor has made it our number-one priority to update and reprint more than 300 of our curriculum and supplemental resource texts to provide the proper prayers and responses. This means there will be no need for you and your staff to hand-stuff inserts, download and copy updated pages, or place stickers in book after book. Whether you use Call to Faith, Call to Celebrate, or Celebrating Our Faith, you can trust that they have been thoroughly reviewed and updated to reflect the Missal changes. We have also added several new supplemental pieces for every parishioner and parent to aid in this effort, including pamphlets, Catholic Parent Know-How, and Faith Charts. We even have a new set of songs for the classroom to help little ones joyfully learn the responses as well. Our goal is for an easy, seamless transition for you, your catechists, and your students so that everyone can take advantage of the real opportunity: deepening our experience and understanding of Mass. Our team has worked hard so your team can be more focused and effective. That s what we mean when we say that it s a new day in catechesis. Gregory R. Erlandson Publisher Beth McNamara General Manager, Curriculum Division Bringing Your Catholic Faith to Life 2
3 REVISIONS TO STUDENT EDITIONS V All lessons that discuss or teach children about the meaning of liturgical texts now include the revised translation. For example, when speaking of the Introductory Rites in an Explore section of a chapter, changes were made to the people s response to the priest s greeting and the lines of the Gloria. V Because our lessons form learners in the language and rhythm of liturgical prayer, all prayer experiences now use the wording of the revised translation. For example, in the Celebrate page of a chapter, where student response was And also with you, it is now And with your spirit, and where a simple echo prayer used the lines Christ has died, Christ has risen, Christ will come again, a simple call and response prayer reflective of chapter content has replaced it. V The source books found at the back of student texts are edited for the necessary adaptations. For example, this includes the Apostles and Nicene Creed, Confiteor, Gloria, and any other cited text from the Roman Missal. V Photos that picture the Sacramentary are updated to show the Roman Missal. For example, photos of altars or images of liturgical books and vessels have been replaced. V Indices and glossaries include all revised terminology. For example, all language from the revised Order of Mass for the individual rites and prayers within each main part of the Mass have changed (from Memorial Acclamation to Mystery of Faith, from Penitential Rite to Penitential Act). V the wrap containing the main lesson process and the additional activities and background boxes REVISIONS TO BILINGUAL EDITIONS V The English portions of our bilingual texts will include revised Roman Missal changes from our English-only texts. V All revised Roman Missal changes from our English-language texts will be incorporated into our bilingual editions as well as any background information and resource suggestions. REVISIONS TO CATECHIST & TEACHER EDITIONS V Any references in the Catechist or Teacher Editions reflect the revised translation, for example, in in the bottom matter. V At key points, background information has been added to note the changes in liturgical language with information on the origin of the use. V New resource suggestions have been integrated into lesson plans, providing catechists and teachers age-appropriate language to speak to learners, and their families, about the changes. For example, the And With Your Spirit music CD has been integrated into all applicable chapters, and resource suggestions for Catechist s Companion and Catholic Parent Know-How have been added. 3
