Barbarito, Bishop of Palm Beach, will be the main celebrant at the 10:30 Mass on Sunday, June 17, Immediately following the Mass, Bishop Barbarito will bless the Stations of the Cross and the Mysteries of the Holy Rosary walkways. They all ate and were satisfied. And when the leftover fragments were picked up, they filled twelve wicker baskets. ( Luke 9:17) People will stand in line for hours to see a blockbuster movie or to get into a sporting event. But would you risk your life to hear a sermon? Imagine this scene of more than five thousand people in a deserted place. They had no food or shelter, yet they would not make the journey to the nearest town unless Jesus dismissed them. They were so happy to be with Him, even if it meant going hungry for a day! You can understand why the apostles were concerned and approached Jesus for help. Most important, you can understand the eager excitement of the people. They were as spiritually empty as their stomachs were physically empty, and they were receiving so much spiritual food that they wanted to stay and take in all that Jesus had to say. On this feast of the body and Blood of Christ, let s remember the excitement of those hungry souls and the way that Jesus fed them, both spiritually and physically. Most important, let s savor that the last little detail about the twelve baskets of bread that were left over. Jesus was perfectly capable of giving the people the exact amount of food that they needed, but he chose to give them far, far more. What a powerful image of Jesus abundant love and mercy! When we come to the Lord at Mass with nothing but our empty baskets, he won t disappoint us. He won t leave us hungry. His Living Bread doesn t just meet our needs; it overflows! Today, recall the excitement of the crowd, and spend some time considering the overwhelming abundance of love that God is offering you through the Body and Blood of Christ. Know that any spiritual hunger that you experience can be filled abundantly through Christ. Please join us for this special event!! 0819 St. Andrew 2

The Candle in the Adoration Chapel of the Two Hearts is burning for the intention of Eleanor Morton this week. 3. The Sanctuary Candles are burning for the intention of Fr. Robert Aufieri this week. The Prayer Shawl Ministry met April 4th and four handmade with love shawls were donated to be given away. We wish to thank Phyllis Foley, who donated the lovely shawl in the picture (to the left ) We thank her for sharing her time, talent and yarn. Call nolio01@gmail.com PRAYER FOR PROTECTION FROM STORMS God, our Father, Creator of the Universe and Lord over all creation, we humbly stand before you as your children in thanksgiving for your loving care and protection. We ask that you keep us safe from all hurricanes which may threaten us in the coming seasons. Protect us from all fear and anxiety of storms and give us an ardent trust and hope in Your love and mercy. You alone have the power to command the sea, the wind and the rain. You alone bring peace, calm, and safety. Father, we thank you in advance, for you are our only Refuge. We ask this through Christ, Your Son, Who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen. Mary, Queen of the Apostles, and Patroness of Our Diocese, pray for us. Words not only describe reality. They can actually change it. Using an example provided by Bishop Robert Barron in his book Catholicism picture yourself in a seat behind third base at a baseball game featuring your hometown team. As a runner rounds second, he is forced to slide into third. At that, you automatically stand and yell Safe! Unfortunately, right in front of you stands a certified umpire of the National League who gestures with his right arm and yells Out! Whether you or the player likes it or not, your unfortunate hometown player is out. That ump s call changed the reality of the game. That is an analogy of what happened to the bread and wine in front of Jesus on that Last Supper table. Jesus changed their essence, but not their appearance. They became at that moment the Body and Blood of Christ. That same miracle, technically called transubstantiation or changed substance is the theological language of St. Thomas Aquinas, one of the greatest minds the Church has produced. His priestly heart was also enamored of what Christ did that he composed the beautiful hymns so familiar to us, such as the Pange Lingua, Tantum Ergo and Adoro Te Devote. We could say that Thomas heart felt was his mind perceived. All of this is part of what our Church wishes to convey with today s feast of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. She is celebrating what her mind and heart have believed and loved for more than twenty centuries. On Holy Thursday, the sadness of Jesus impending death cast a pall over the idea of celebrating what Jesus had done at the last Supper. Now, after Easter, with Spring in full bloom, she does today what she could not do back in Holy Week. She gives glorious praise and thanksgiving to God for her greatest treasure: the Holy Eucharist. There is an added dimension to the celebration of the Eucharist that always follows: namely the challenge to act in everyday life like the gifted people we are. Our lives between the Sundays should mark us as followers of the very Lord who has made Himself so accessible. 4 Anyway People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self centered. FORGIVE THEM ANYWAY If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish ulterior motives. BE KIND ANYWAY. If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies. SUCCEED ANYWAY. If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you. BE HONEST AND FRANK ANYWAY. What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight. BUILD ANYWAY. If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous. BE HAPPY ANYWAY. The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow. DO GOOD ANYWAY. Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough. GIVE THE BEST YOU VE GOT ANYWAY. You see, in the final analysis it is between you and God; It was never between you and them anyway. ( A sign found in the home of Saint Mother Teresa) Father s Day Novena of Masses For the intention of our father s, living or deceased. Our Father s Day Novena Masses consist of 9 consecutive days of Masses for the intention of our fathers, living or deceased. On the outside of the envelope are printed lines for you to write down the names of the fathers you would like remembered in our Novena Masses. They can be your biological father, husband,, step-father, God-Father, etc. There are more lines on the back of the envelope too. After writing their name, please insert your donation for the Masses in the envelope and place it in the offertory basket next weekend, or drop it off at the church office no later than Friday, JUNE 8, 2018, as our Novena Masses begin on Saturday, June 9th. A novena means nine consecutive days of public or private prayer for some special occasion or intention. Its origin goes back to the nine days that the disciples and Mary spent together in prayer between Ascension and Pentecost Sunday. To make a novena means to persevere in prayer asking for some favor over a period of nine days in succession or nine weeks in succession. It means fulfilling our Lord s teaching that we must continue praying and never lose confidence. This confidence is based on our Lord s words: Ask and you will receive; seek and you will find; knock and it will be opened to you. For whoever asks receives; whoever seeks finds; whoever knocks is admitted. ( Lk 11: 9-10) 0819-St Andrew 4

For more information on Rachel s Vineyard, check the website; In the Sacraments We Encounter Christ the Savior ~ Pope Francis~ A Mother Feeds Her Children By Father Richard Veras Mabel Tolkien was a widow with two sons. She had worshiped as an Anglican, but her search for truth led her to the Catholic Church, into which she led her young sons. Because her conversion cut her off from her family s financial help, Mabel educated her sons on her own until they could perform well enough on exams to win scholarships to private schools. Mabel died young and entrusted her sons to her parish priest, that they might remain Catholic. In those difficult years, were her sons tempted to suggest that their mother take them back to the Anglican Church to make her life and their lives easier? Would she often remind them of the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist? We know that one of her sons later wrote with great conviction about the Blessed Sacrament in letters to his own son; and he attributed his faith to that of his mother. J.R.R. Tolkien also wrote The Lord of the Rings, an epic story with a tender scene in which a motherly elf bids farewell to two young hobbits who have to face the dangers of the world without her. She entrusts to them a mysterious bread which she promises will sustain them on their journey. May the feast of Corpus Christi, inspiring this whole month, encourage us to hand on the Faith, and the Eucharist, to our children who must face the epic journey of life. They will travel much of it without us, but may they journey always with the Real Presence of Christ.
