1 Hymn Study Schedules 1 Hymn Study Schedule January Great Is Thy Faithfulness (H4W Just as I am Disc 1 #9) g/r /e/greatitf.htm His compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is Thy faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23 Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father; There is no shadow of turning with Thee; Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not; As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be. Great is Thy faithfulness! Great is Thy faithfulness! Morning by morning new mercies I see. All I have needed Thy hand hath provided; Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me! Summer and winter and springtime and harvest, Sun, moon and stars in their courses above Join with all nature in manifold witness To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love. Lyrics by Thomas O. Chisholm, Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide; Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow, Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside! Music by William M. Runyan, 1923 The hymn first appeared in Songs of Salvation and Service, It is the unofficial school hymn of Moody Bible Institute, Chicago, Illinois, with which Runyan was associated for a number of years.

2 Hymn Study Schedules 2 February Crown Him with Many Crowns His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. Revelation 19:12 m/c/r/o/crownhim.htm n_him_with_many_crowns.mid H4W Just as I am Disc 2 #7 ns/detail/crown-him-with-manycrowns (with singing) Crown Him with many crowns, the Lamb upon His throne. Hark! How the heav nly anthem drowns all music but its own. Awake, my soul, and sing of Him who died for thee, And hail Him as thy matchless King through all eternity. Crown Him the virgin s Son, the God incarnate born, Whose arm those crimson trophies won which now His brow adorn; Fruit of the mystic rose, as of that rose the stem; The root whence mercy ever flows, the Babe of Bethlehem. Crown Him the Son of God, before the worlds began, And ye who tread where He hath trod, crown Him the Son of Man; Who every grief hath known that wrings the human breast, And takes and bears them for His own, that all in Him may rest. George J. Elvey, Born: March 27, 1816, Canterbury, England. Died: December 9, 1893, Windlesham, Surrey, England. Born into a musical family, Elvey started his career as a boy, singing at Canterbury Cathedral. Later, he received more formal training at the Royal Academy of Music. Around 1835, he was appointed master of the boys and organist at St. George s Chapel, Windsor, England (one of his tunes, St George s Windsor takes its name from this location). He served at St. George s for almost half a century. He was knighted in 1871 for his Festival March, played at the wedding of Princess Louise. Crown Him the Lord of life, who triumphed o er the grave, And rose victorious in the strife for those He came to save. His glories now we sing, who died, and rose on high, Who died eternal life to bring, and lives that death may die. Crown Him the Lord of peace, whose power a scepter sways From pole to pole, that wars may cease, and all be prayer and praise. His reign shall know no end, and round His piercèd feet Fair flowers of paradise extend their fragrance ever sweet. Crown Him the Lord of love, behold His hands and side, Those wounds, yet visible above, in beauty glorified. No angel in the sky can fully bear that sight, But downward bends his burning eye at mysteries so bright. Crown Him the Lord of Heav n, enthroned in worlds above, Crown Him the King to whom is giv n the wondrous name of Love. Crown Him with many crowns, as thrones before Him fall; Crown Him, ye kings, with many crowns, for He is King of all. Crown Him the Lord of lords, who over all doth reign, Who once on earth, the incarnate Word, for ransomed sinners slain, Now lives in realms of light, where saints with angels sing Their songs before Him day and night, their God, Redeemer, King. Crown Him the Lord of years, the Potentate of time, Creator of the rolling spheres, ineffably sublime. All hail, Redeemer, hail! For Thou has died for me;thy praise and glory shall not fail throughout eternity.

Galatians 6:14 When I survey the wondrous cross On which the Prince of glory died, My richest gain I count but loss, And pour contempt on all my pride. Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast, Save in the death of Christ my God! All the vain things that charm me most, I sacrifice them to His blood. See from His head, His hands, His feet, Sorrow and love flow mingled down! Did e er such love and sorrow meet, Or thorns compose so rich a crown? Words by Isaac Watts Born: July 17, 1674, Southampton, England. Died: November 25, 1748 His dying crimson, like a robe, Spreads o er His body on the tree; Then I am dead to all the globe, And all the globe is dead to me. Were the whole realm of nature mine, That were a present far too small; Love so amazing, so divine, Demands my soul, my life, my all. To Christ, who won for sinners grace By bitter grief and anguish sore, Be praise from all the ransomed race Forever and forevermore. Music by Lowell Mason Born: July 17, 1674, Southampton, England. 6 Hymn Study Schedules 6 June A Mighty Fortress is Our God God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1 Martin Luther Birth: November 10, 1483, Eisleben, Germany Death: February 18, 1546 (H4W Amazing Grace Disc 1 #6 yer/?hymn=a-mighty-fortress-isour-god mns/detail/a-mighty-fortress-isour-god m/i/g/mightyfo.htm A mighty fortress is our God, a bulwark never failing; Our helper He, amid the flood of mortal ills prevailing: For still our ancient foe doth seek to work us woe; His craft and power are great, and, armed with cruel hate, On earth is not his equal. Did we in our own strength confide, our striving would be losing; Were not the right Man on our side, the Man of God s own choosing: Dost ask who that may be? Christ Jesus, it is He; Lord Sabaoth, His Name, from age to age the same, And He must win the battle. And though this world, with devils filled, should threaten to undo us, We will not fear, for God hath willed His truth to triumph through us: The Prince of Darkness grim, we tremble not for him; His rage we can endure, for lo, his doom is sure, One little word shall fell him. That word above all earthly powers, no thanks to them, abideth; The Spirit and the gifts are ours through Him who with us sideth: Let goods and kindred go, this mortal life also; The body they may kill: God s truth abideth still, His kingdom is forever.

It is well, with my soul, It is well, with my soul, It is well, it is well, with my soul. Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come, Let this blest assurance control, That Christ has regarded my helpless estate, And hath shed His own blood for my soul. My sin oh, the bliss of this glorious thought My sin not in part but the whole, Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more, Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul! For me, be it Christ, be it Christ hence to live: If Jordan above me shall roll, No pang shall be mine, for in death as in life Thou wilt whisper Thy peace to my soul. But, Lord, tis for Thee, for Thy coming we wait, The sky, not the grave, is our goal; Oh trump of the angel! Oh voice of the Lord! Blessèd hope, blessèd rest of my soul! And Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight, The clouds be rolled back as a scroll; The trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend, Even so it is well with my soul.

Died: January 7, 1940 When through the woods and forest glades I wander And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees, When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur, And hear the brook and feel the gentle breeze: And when I think that God, his Son not sparing, Sent him to die, I scarce can take it in, That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing, He bled and died to take away my sin: Stuart K. Hine Born: July 25, 1899, Hammersmith Grove, London, England. Died: March 14, Translated into English When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart! Then I shall bow in humble adoration, And there proclaim, My God, how great thou art! Optional extra verses: 3a. O, when I see ungrateful man defiling This bounteous earth, God s gifts so good and great, In foolish pride God s holy name reviling And yet, in grace, his wrath and judgment wait: 3b. When burdens press, and seem beyond endurance, Bowed down with grief, to him I lift my face, And then in love he brings me sweet assurance, My child! for thee sufficient is my grace :

Take my lips, and let them be filled with messages from Thee. Take my silver and my gold; not a mite would I withhold. Take my intellect, and use every power as Thou shalt choose. Take my will, and make it Thine; it shall be no longer mine. Take my heart, it is Thine own; it shall be Thy royal throne. Take my love, my Lord, I pour at Thy feet its treasure store. Take myself, and I will be ever, only, all for Thee. Died: January 19, 1833, Thernes, France

11 Hymn Study Schedules 11 November Be Thou My Vision When a prophet of the Lord is among you, I reveal Myself to him in visions, I speak to him in dreams. Numbers 12:6 By Dallan Forgaill, 8th Century & translated from ancient Irish to English by Mary E. Byrne H4W Just as I am Disc 1 #3 mns/detail/be-thou-my-vision b/e/t/bethoumv.htm Be Thou my vision, O Lord of my heart; Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art. Be Thou my battle shield, sword for the fight; Be Thou my dignity, Thou my delight; Thou my soul s shelter, Thou my high tower: Raise Thou me heavenward, O power of my power. Riches I heed not, nor man s empty praise, Thou mine Inheritance, now and always: Thou and Thou only, first in my heart, High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art. 12 Hymn Study Schedules 12 December Rock of Ages H4W Just as I am Disc 2 # 1 r/o/c/rockages.htm The Lord is my Rock, and my Fortress, and my Deliverer. Psalm 18:2 Augustus M. Toplady, Born: November 4, 1740, Farnham, Surrey, England. Died: August 11, 1778, Kensington, Middlesex, England Rock of Ages, cleft for me, Let me hide myself in Thee; Let the water and the blood, From Thy wounded side which flowed, Be of sin the double cure; Save from wrath and make me pure. Not the labor of my hands Can fulfill Thy law s demands; Could my zeal no respite know, Could my tears forever flow, All for sin could not atone; Thou must save, and Thou alone. Nothing in my hand I bring, Simply to the cross I cling; Naked, come to Thee for dress; Helpless look to Thee for grace; Foul, I to the fountain fly; Wash me, Savior, or I die. While I draw this fleeting breath, When mine eyes shall close in death, [originally When my eye-strings break in death] When I soar to worlds unknown, See Thee on Thy judgment throne, Rock of Ages, cleft for me, Let me hide myself in Thee. Music: Thomas Hastings Born: October 15, 1784, Washington, Connecticut. Died: May 15, 1872, New York
