1 The Prayers of the People and Lord s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. The Offertory Invitation When the people of Jesus day came to the temple, they offered God their sacrifices. Today, we offer God our gifts as a token of our faith, our gratitude, and the commitment of our lives. Let us bring before the Lord our tithes and offerings. As the offering plates are being passed, please sign and pass the Friendship Registers located at the end of your pews. Thank you! The Offertory Great Is Thy Faithfulness Don Roberts *The Congregation Sings in Response #375 (PH) Lord of All Good Lord of all good, our gifts we bring to You; Use them Your holy purpose to fulfill; Tokens of love and pledges brought anew, That our whole life is offered to Your will. *The Prayer of Dedication (In Unison) Loving God, we offer these resources and our lives in service to you. Accompany these gifts with your grace so that others may know your mercy and truth. Fill our lives with your Spirit so that others may know your love and presence. In Christ s name we pray, Amen. People: Let us join our voices with the praise of all creation; Let us worship God! (Psalm 19:1 4, The Message, adapted) The Opening Prayer (In Unison) Merciful God, your truth reverberates through our world with both the power of a thunderclap and the subtlety of falling snow. Your grace washes our souls with the cleansing force of a steady spring rain. Your love sustains us like the life-giving warmth of the summer sun. Be with us now as we worship you. Empower us to declare your glory with all creation. Inspire our words and our deeds so that we may proclaim you grace and goodness in this and every hour. Amen. *The Hymn #417 Christ Is Made the Sure Foundation (Presby Hymnal) (Ushers will collect prayer requests. Please pass them to the center aisle.) *The people will rise in body or spirit
2 The Prayer of Confession (In Unison) Loving Lord, we confess that our outrage is often misplaced. We know there are issues and actions that rightly deserve our anger and resistance. Yet we often reserve our greatest outrage for the minor frustrations of life. We can become absolutely infuriated over someone else s poor driving or lack of courtesy. But we passively accept the realities of poverty, hunger, abuse, and greed. Forgive us, Lord. Help us to know when to gather our anger and when to let it go. Ignite in our hearts your passion for justice. Guide our spirits so that we may channel our emotional energy toward faithful, fruitful change, through the grace of Christ. Amen. A Time of Silent Confession The Assurance of Pardon The Congregation Sings in Response Gloria Patri Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost, as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen. The Church in Proclamation The Scripture Reading Exodus 20: 1-17 O. T. Page 66 John 2: N. T. Page 93 Leader: The word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God The Anthem Jesus Loves Me Chancel Choir The Micro Message Esther Radvinski The Congregation Sings in Response God is Calling through the Whisper God is calling through the whisper of the Spirit's deepest sighs, through the thrill of sudden beauties that can catch us by surprise. Flash of lightning, crash of thunder; hush of stillness, rush of wonder. God is calling - can you hear? God is calling - can you hear? The Hymn When Christ Went to the Temple (See Below) Text: Copyright 2015 by Carolyn Winfrey Gillette Sung to Llangloffan (Hymn Tune to "Rejoice, Rejoice, Believers" & O God of Every Nation ) When Christ went to the Temple to worship God one day, He entered through the courtyard where anyone could pray. That court was for the nations and all could enter in. But Jesus found a market, a shameful robbers' den. There, cattle, sheep and pigeons were sold for sacrifice, And moneychangers shouted of quality and price. Outsiders could not enter the inner courts for prayer. Their only place to worship was in the courtyard there. When prayer gave way to profit, and pride closed many doors, The Lord cried out in anger and made a whip of cords. He shooed the sheep and cattle and scattered pigeons, too. God's house was for all people not for a chosen few. O God, you love the nations and call us all to pray. Forgive us when our worship turns other folk away. As Christ, in loving protest, fought prejudice and pride, May we who follow Jesus now welcome all inside. The Church Responds *The Affirmation of Faith - Apostles' Creed (In Unison) I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. The Sermon Temple Troubles Rev. Merry Meloy

Adult Ed Series Some parts of the Bible are so familiar, we may think we already know the lessons they teach. But even the most well-known story can offer new insights when we explore a text together. This Lent, Rev. Fred Young will help us see some of the most beloved passages of Scripture with fresh eyes. Come share your questions, puzzles, and aha moments as we listen to God s word together. The series will run through Sunday, March 18 th. We meet at 9:15 in the church library. There s a seat waiting for you! First Sunday Mission Offering Our First Sunday Mission Offering in March will benefit the Butler County Relief Initiative. BERI s mission is to complement existing agencies in meeting the essential needs of Butler County residents whose lives have been affected by a significant emergency.
