The Ancestors will exhibit a series of life-size figures representing the Ancestors of Christ, which date to the 12th and early 13th centuries Location: The Chapter House Ticket Information: Entrance to the exhibition is free, but normal precinct charges apply. Griffins, Gargoyles and Greenmen Art workshop for children age 5 to 12 accompanied by an adult. Discover some strange and scary carvings around the Cathedral - who made them and why. Ticket information: This is a free activity but must be booked in Griffins, Gargoyles and Greenmen Art workshop for children age 11 to 16 accompanied by an adult. Investigate the Cathedral s stained glass windows, discover how they were made and some of the stories they tell followed by work with an artist to create stained glass windows. Ticket information: This is a free activity but must be booked in Midday Recital Performed by: The Clarion Singers Location: The Quire Ticket information: Admission to the Recital is free but normal Precinct charges apply. Bees, butterflies and a mysterious beetle Bug hunt to discover mini beasts and their habitats around the Cathedral precincts, Find out about the importance of bees, discover creepy crawlies in stained glass windows, ancient book illustrations and carvings around the Cathedral, and uncover the mysterious story of Argus Reflexus, the Cathedral s very own beetle. Then make a mini beast to take home. For families with children age 2 to 12 with accompanying adult. Led by Kent Wildlife Trust. Ticket Information: This is a free activity but must be booked in Plants, pipes, plumbers and piscinas Discover the importance of water to plants, animals and people by exploring the historic Cathedral precincts. Identify watery wildlife in close-up detail, investigate Prior Wibert s medieval waterworks plan, and help Ingenulph the Plumber in some wet and wild experiments. Ticket Information: This is a free activity but must be booked in The Great South Window - A high level highlights tour. A Heritage Open Day For adults and accompanied children age 12+ Meet at Canterbury Cathedral Welcome Centre. A unique opportunity to see conservation in action as Cathedral stonemasons and stained glass specialists provide a fascinating insight in the repair and restoration of the Cathedral s Great South Window, containing some of the earliest stained glass in England. The visit includes a trip up the scaffolding to see work in progress, and a behind the scenes tour of the Cathedral Stained Glass Studio and Masons Drawing Office. Please note visitors must be medically fit, have a good head for heights, and wear sensible clothing, including flat-soled shoes. The organisers may refuse the right of entry to anyone who is inappropriately dressed. We regret this event is unsuitable for wheelchair users. Visit the Broad Oak Stonemasons Yard to find out more in this fascinating behind the scenes tour with Yard Supervisor Emlyn Harris. Meet some of the Cathedral s expert team of stonemasons and see how medieval and modern methods combine. Wheelchair accessible route Location: Stone Masons Yard, Broadoak. An English Heritage Open Day For blind and partially sighted accompanied children age 7 to 13 with an accompanying adult. Meet at Canterbury Cathedral Welcome Centre.Enjoy a multi-sensory, audio-described tour at Canterbury Cathedral. Investigate real plants in the Cathedral herb garden, and illustrations and descriptions of them in Tudor herbals, documents, books and maps from the Cathedral Archives and Library. Then work with artist Dawn Cole to create exciting 3D pictures and prints using real plants, including Kentish hops! Wheelchair accessible route. Guide dogs and sighted guides welcome. Wednesday 30th at 12:00 Tuesday 6th October Evensong with Displays open from 18:15-21:00 Annual Hop Hoodening Service Hop Hoodening is a celebration of the hop harvest, held annually at Canterbury. There is a short service of celebration followed by displays of Morris and Country Dancing in the Precincts. Service Location: Compass Rose. Doors open at Ticket Information: Entry to the Service is free but normal Precinct charges apply to watch the dancing. Hops and Hoodeners. A Heritage Open Day Meet at Canterbury Cathedral Welcome Centre Enjoy a multi-sensory tour at Canterbury Cathedral. Investigate plants in the Cathedral herb garden, illustrations and descriptions of them in Tudor herbals and discover the importance of hops and beer to East Kent. Arrive early to experience the sound and spectacle of Morris Dancing in the Precincts at as part of the annual Hop Hoodening Festival, followed by a performance of 18th century Catch Club drinking songs in the Cathedral Archives at 13:00. The 2015 Cathedral Open Evening Vistiors will have the opportunity to try their hand at a number of skilled crafts including applying gold leaf, carving stone, and brass rubbing. Free guided and audio tours will be on offer and there will be visits to the private Chapels, the Bell Tower, the Organ Loft, and the Choir Practice Room. Refreshments will be available in the Chapter House. This year, there will be a special exhibition about important women in the Cathedral s history.the evening will finish with a concert sung by the Cathedral choristers, followed by Compline.
