Adult Faith Formation Greetings, disciples! It was not too long ago we talked about the Kerygma as a powerful way to sum up our faith journey and what we believe. It is the apostolic proclamation of salvation through Jesus Christ. It is the good news story of God s love for us. But it does not end there. We just celebrated Good Friday and Easter Sunday. That is the first 3 parts of the Kerygma, namely that God loves us unconditionally and we have broken that relationship through sin. The good news is God so loves us that Jesus restores this relationship through his life, death and resurrection, but that is not the end. Jesus calls us to trust him, to turn from sin and to give our lives to Him. To do this, Jesus has poured the Holy Spirit into our hearts so we will have new life in His Church. Think about this. It means we need to do our part in this wonderful relationship. We need to not only live in the way Jesus invites us, but we need to proclaim and share this news with others. Soon you will be hearing much more about Alpha which can help you on this journey. Alpha is not another "program" for parish life but a shift in our focus from programs to people and a discipleship-oriented process. Our staff and many of our parish committee people are participating in Alpha now. We will be telling much more about this opportunity in future bulletins as we plan additional Alpha sessions. I started this article with greetings to disciples. You cannot help others be a disciple unless you are a disciple. There is a deepening which never stops. Alpha is one way of deepening this personal, intimate relationship with Jesus Christ. Please pray to the Holy Spirit for all those attending now and for the grace to say Yes to this future invitation. Door Tran is a creative community network that is dedicated to connecting people to transportation services that are affordable, available and accessible. Door Tran: Provides half-price transportation vouchers for those who use a private taxi, Washington Island Community Van or Ferry. Operates a county-wide volunteer transportation program that serves those with no other options to get where they need to go. Maintains a Veteran Volunteer Transportation Program to assist veterans in getting to their medical appointments at out-ofcounty VA Health medical facilities. Has a Vehicle Purchase/Repair Loans program to assist low income families with 0% interest vehicle loans to get to and from work. Provides information about transportation options related to your needs. Provides assistance with trip planning. Tracks unmet transportation needs to implement plans to ensure unmet needs are met in the future. Door Tran continues to enhance their transportation services to better serve the Northern Door communities. On Sunday, May 20th at 4:00 pm, Kim Gilson from Door Tran will discuss the transportation options offered to residents of Door County. Come hear how your transportation needs can be addressed at the CHIP presentation at First Baptist Church in Sister Bay. Whatever the situation, Jesus knows how to speak to each person's heart; we simply need to follow where he leads. USCCB Secretariat of Pro-Life Activities THE MAY FOOD item being collected is canned vegetables for the CARE 24/7 Food Pantry, a ministry of Stella Maris. Donations can be left at the Fish Creek and Baileys Harbor sites. KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS Annual Tootsie Roll Drive will be held May 5-6. Tootsie Rolls will be available after Mass this weekend. All donations welcome. Proceeds will go to the Sunshine House in Sturgeon Bay. THE PENINSULA SINGERS will present a Mother's Day concert on Sunday May 13 at 3 pm in the Door Community Auditorium. Selections will range from a Requiem to folk songs to Broadway tunes. There is no admission charge. 4 5 Sixth Sunday of Easter-May 6, 2018 Worship and Music Column Warm May Greetings to fellow parishioners and visitors! In Door County, May is a month of hopeful beginnings for many of us. The piles of snow from our recordbreaking April snowfalls are hopefully melted. New green grass is starting to poke through after months of looking at dead-looking brown turf. Crocus, daffodils and tulips are rearing their lovely colorful heads, declaring an end to the long Wisconsin winter. The trees are beginning to bud, promising the hope of that heavenly soft spring green of new leaves and the joyful explosion of cherry and apple blossoms in our orchards. The liturgical season of Easter, a time we celebrate the Resurrection of our Savior, Jesus Christ, coincides perfectly with this season of rebirth! As the natural world awakens, our parish goes through its annual changes as well. Next weekend, May 12 th & 13 th, all five of our peninsula churches will once again be open for weekend Masses. And beginning Memorial Day Weekend, our summer schedule begins with nine Masses every weekend at all six of our worship sites. Since our beloved and talented music and worship minister, Kathy Sedan, retired last October, I ve been working to schedule accompanists and cantors and choose hymns for three Masses each winter weekend. Stella Maris Parish is extremely grateful to accompanists Heidi Teich (Sts. Peter & Paul, Institute), Christina Kime (St. Philip s, Green Bay) and Lynn and Mike Collom (St. Edward s, Mackville), who all travel from outside of our parish borders to help us and to Kathy Sedan and all our faithful parish cantors who have kept us singing. Unfortunately, after much advertising and searching, we still haven t found a new music minister. We humbly ask for your prayers that God will inspire the right person to come forward and join our parish team. At this point, I m faced with the daunting task of finding people to lead us in song at nine Masses each summer weekend. These musicians and cantors will continue to lead us and I m hopeful to find a few additional accompanists for our summer Masses. But there will be some Masses that will only have a cantor leading hymns and there may be a few Masses without any musician or cantor. With your prayers and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we will do our best to continue the longstanding tradition of beautiful, meaningful liturgy here at Stella Maris Parish. Infant Baptism The baptism of new babies and young children revitalizes our faith community. Please contact the parish office to make arrangements for baptism. Adult Initiation The Catholic Church is always enriched whenever any adult chooses to be Catholic. Adults wishing to be baptized, or baptized adults wishing to be confirmed, the RCIA program is available. Reconciliation God s great mercy is something to be celebrated. Ritually we Catholics experience God s unconditional love in the sacrament of reconciliation. Our pastor is available for this sacrament on the 1st Thursday of the month from 5:00-6:00 pm at our Baileys Harbor site (except holidays) and by appointment. Sacrament of Matrimony A faith-filled wedding is a joyful time for the couple and the parish. Our parish wants to have all weddings here be the best possible. The couple must meet with the pastor before a date can be reserved. Please contact the parish office at least 12 months in advance to begin preparation. Ministry to the Sick Everyone needs extra compassion and care when his or her health is not at its best. As a parish, we try to meet that need. Communal anointing Masses take place twice yearly, with individual anointing done when requested. Parishioners in the hospital, nursing home or other institution are encouraged to notify the office to arrange for visits or communion.
