1 BRIDGING FAITH & LEARNING SERVICE OF WORSHIP Second Sunday of Easter Sunday, April 8, 2018, 11:00 a.m. Miracle, Edward Ruscha, 1975 The gospel lesson on the second Sunday of Easter each year is the story of Doubting Thomas, Jesus disciple who refused to believe the other disciples account of Jesus resurrection without seeing it for himself. The placement of this story of incredulity immediately following the joy of Easter acknowledges the complexity of belief. The lesson from 1 John speaks to how the first Christians sought to shape their life given the reality of the resurrection. Learning to walk in the light of Christ is the constant calling of all who seek to have fellowship with the Father.

He is the president of Duke Lutherans and is also a Duke Chapel Scholar. Before graduating this May, Chatelaine plans to finish

After graduating, he plans to take a job as the youth director at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Rochester, Minnesota. GUEST CHOIR Duke Amandla Chorus is Duke s first African Chorus. The group s aim is to carry their audience members and listeners across the African continent through music. From Egypt to Madagascar, Swahili to Twi, Amandla embraces the differences and similarities that make Africa the place that it is. HYMN FESTIVAL TODAY The Chapel has a long tradition of being a home for all who wish to raise their voices. The Hymn Festival at 5:15 p.m. this evening will feature world-renowned organist John Ferguson, who will lead all who attend in beloved songs of the church. All are welcome to sing along. CARILLON RECITAL RESCHEDULED The carillon recital previously scheduled for April 8 has been rescheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 15. People attending this outdoor concert are welcome to bring a chair or blanket. ORGAN RECITAL APRIL 22 The final concert of this season's Organ Recital Series will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 22, featuring David Briggs performing his transcription of Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 2 (Resurrection). He will be joined by a choir and soloists under the direction of Dr. Rodney Wynkoop.

8 ENGAGE (Continued) ART RECEPTION APRIL 12 Duke senior Evan Nicole Bell has been selected as this year s C. Eric Lincoln Theology and Arts Fellow at Duke University Chapel. As part of the fellowship, Bell has created an exhibition titled Faith in Color: A Photographic Exploration of Race, Religion, and America in Tribute to C. Eric Lincoln. Her work will be on display in Duke Chapel April 4 through May 1, with an opening reception at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 12. CHRISTY LOHR SAPP ORDINATION SERVICE Called by God and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Dr. Christy Lohr Sapp, Associate Dean for Religious Life at Duke Chapel, will be ordained to the Ministry of Word and Sacrament on Sunday, April 15, at 2:00 p.m. in Duke University Chapel. Bishop Tim Smith of the North Carolina Synod will preside. All are welcome to attend. Red is the color of the day.
